Let's do it!

I really need to get far more exercise this year.

OP posts:

Morning all, weight exercise no.1 for the day done. I bought a 5kg weight in Decathlon yesterday; it looks like a steering wheel and is probably overpriced for what it is, but I've had two 2kg dumbells for ages and for some exercises they are just not the right shape and too light.

I do my exercises first thing and once back at work, will have to do more in the morning; at the moment I can spread it out over the day.
I already have weights, a stationary bike, pilates bands, wrist and ankle weights and will add a stepping aid soon to get some variety into my daily routine.

Food-wise it's actually going well; I am keeping to the smaller portions and enjoy not feeling completely full after a meal.

My downfall is still alcohol; I am seriously considering dry January to kick-start getting out of the habit completely.

Oh, apparently I am now down from 11st 12lb to 11st 6lb. Good start.

Alkaloise · 31/12/2019 16:22

How is everyone else getting on? My first pair of shapewear arrived today to hide my operation-related fat overhang on my belly and what can I say, the difference is astounding. I may lose weight, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't feel confident about my body in the meantime. And the overhang doesn't disappear, even when I'm underweight, so I will keep wearing this even when thinner.

Weighing in tomorrow but fitbit is charged and nice shiny notebook at the ready.
Heres to a good 2020 for us all!

I weighed myself this morning, no gain over Christmas as I have been full of cold so not eaten loads and drunk no alcohol life has been dull
I need to download the FitBit app and do a meal plan/shopping list. DH is on board as his diet needs to improve.

CockerShark · 01/01/2020 08:19

I’m in! 5 years post baby I can’t really call it baby weight anymore! 20kg to lose 😩 we’ve just got a new puppy so hoping lots of walking will help and will look to get back in the gym. I used to love spinning before I was pregnant and had never been so fit but I need to get a bit fitter before I attempt that!

wizzler · 01/01/2020 09:56

Am off on a long dog walk dog. Plan to walk somewhere every day. Especially in my lunch hours where of late I have just walked to the crisp machine and back.

Rowgtfc72 · 01/01/2020 17:51

So. 14st 11lb.
Done 10000 steps today and drunk a litre of water. Biked for 50mins. And avoided all the Christmas food in the house Grin

Iggleonkupsy · 01/01/2020 18:52

Excited to get started, I'm going to try get to a boots to weigh tomorrow but more likely Friday. I'm travelling back home tomorrow so will do a food shop on Friday. Last day of crap food today.
Initial plan is no alcohol in Jan, less snacking, cooking more rather than resorting to convenience food. I was contemplating no tea in January too but not sure about that one yet. I think it would do me good to replace my 2 5 cups of tea a day with water.
I would like to do the couch to 5k but I'm also going to be taking up swimming and an aqua class once a week so I'll see how I get on!
Good luck everyone!

Alkaloise · 02/01/2020 06:11

30min morning exercise done. I am sticking with a mix of cardio and muscle-building - the former for weight loss, the latter to firm up a bit.

Food-wise hasn't been great yesterday; my DH is not the best influence when it comes to food and insisted on McD's for lunch, although I stuck to just the burger and no drink or chips.

I did drink all the leftover wine, though (less than a bottle, but still Blush) and ate far too much chocolate. At least with the alcohol gone, there is no temptation now and I won't have a reason for buying another bottle until next month when we have family over.

Consequently, I'm skipping the daily weigh-in today. Back at work in a semi-physical job and we're in the middle of a busy period, so I won't have much time to think about food.

Mitzicoco · 02/01/2020 07:02

I'm in! Did 2 hour bike ride yesterday but then ate a lot of pizza☹️I need to lose at least 2 1/2 stone. Still, Rome wasn't built in a day so am going to change eating habits and do exercise 3 times a week rather than my stupid crash dieting! Good luck everyone!

Tink1990 · 02/01/2020 07:43

I'm in! Going to get into a good routine food wise from now, then joining the gym/mid January to assist! Also really going to try a small walk every day, it really truly does help. My biggest challenge is food though. I just love the stuff, but got to get back to the good stuff!

Redpriestandmozart · 02/01/2020 10:50

Well done on all the exercise everyone, great start to the big weight loss of 2020.

Day four for me and I have been doing yoga each morning, I have MS so I can't do anything more strenuous but I lost over 100lbs in the past so for me exercise isn't as important.

I made this sheet so I can cross off the lbs of fat in the hope it keeps me on track :)

Keep up the good work everyone.

So far so good. Am back at work and at lunchtime have walked to town to buy a salad. My downfall is sweet food... binging on chocolates. I think that if I can eat mindfully, eat well and move more then I should see a reasonable weight loss

OriginalFlake · 02/01/2020 18:11

Sugar cravings are hitting today, that's my biggest downfall. I'm determined to power through though. Off on a long walk tonight after dinner in order to hit my 10k steps. I have 4 stone to lose and I'm determined!

Rowgtfc72 · 02/01/2020 20:02

Just tried that 30 day yoga with Adrienne. I bike 50 miles a week and do a manual job on my feet for 8 hours.
I managed 10 mins. 10 bloody minutes. My body is wrecked.

macaroniandpizza · 02/01/2020 20:04

Im going to florida in may and id like to lose a stone before i go

twinkledag · 02/01/2020 21:17

I started today! I'm doing slimfast.

Took DS over to the park today to get some steps in. Felt good to be out in the fresh air!

Afonavon · 02/01/2020 21:54

Hmm, hopefully some of the following will help me shift my 3 stone of flab...

5:2
16:8 on my non fast days
Plus C25K
Possibly yoga once a week and if I’m motivated Zumba.

I NEED to lose the weight and get fit.

ohohohmerrychristmas · 02/01/2020 22:14

Can I join? I’m 22 stone 9 and desperate to get some weight off . Have PCOS and take mirtazapine (which causes weight gain apparently), but am sure there must be ‘something’ I can do ... ! I’m currently starting by trying to walk 2/3000 steps a day to build up to 4000 next month !

ForestYeti · 02/01/2020 23:10

I’ve got 4 stones to lose, paid gym membership (it’s monthly casual) on 1st and starting back next week when kids are back at school, also doing long dog walks. Need to lose as much as poss by may for dd communion & rest hopefully by October when I’m maid of honour for my bf

Newyearnewarse · 03/01/2020 09:14

Morning ,
My plan is to get out every day for at least a mile run /walk
Dry January which is already proving to be a challenge. I cant remember the last time I managed to abstain for more than 2 days in a row which is scary.
16:8 and more veggie food
Meal planning definitely helps as well.

Will stick to a wednesday as a weigh in day and once I am back at work on monday it should help as well.

Will have a read back and see what ideas I can steal Grin

Good luck all!!

Alkaloise · 03/01/2020 19:10

Aldi have loads of exercise equipment on sale; I got the stepper £10 cheaper than anywhere else I looked.

twinkledag · 03/01/2020 22:46

Day 2 and I failed! I'm putting it down to Friday night and back to work blues!🤣

aibutohavethisusername · 03/01/2020 22:56

I’m in

Alkaloise · 04/01/2020 09:07

Weight is stagnating, but I am fairly used to that and know it will start dropping off soon. DH suggested food delivery again yesterday, but I anticipated that and had bought in battered fish and chips, which I baked in the oven instead, with a tonne of vegetables. Not great, but far better than the deep-fried alternative.

I've bought the Aldi stepper, which is great and I can feel it working on my legs far sooner than my exercise bike. Time is a big factor for me; I am, in general, very time-poor.
Work has helped, too - there is a fair bit of heavy lifting involved.

I've bought another bottle of wine, which I will finish today and then not drink again until Friday. My daily consumption of sugary drinks is down to 2 a day, effectively halved. I'm also on my last nice Christmas chocolate; I'm not too keen on the others, so will take far longer to eat those.

So, in all, not a bad few days.
