Couldn't see what's funny about it, gave up after 5 minutes.
Bit cringey

I enjoyed it too.

Wieas · 25/12/2019 22:27

Tonight's episode was like pulling teeth. I neither smiled nor laughed at anything.

Postmanbear · 25/12/2019 22:27

We loved it. Thought it was really funny and relatable. I’ve been married for as long as Gavin and Stacey and it made me think about injecting more romance!!

BitOfFun · 25/12/2019 22:28

@BumbleBeee69 Isn't he beautiful? AND apparently it is the same same actor who played Neil as an actual baby in the original series!

I think bittersweet has sadly kind of gone out of fashion when many people think stuff like Mrs Browns Boys is funny, but I thought this was still very charming , as were the originals and for me Ruth Jones and Julia D can do no wrong.

80sstyle · 25/12/2019 22:31

I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Takingabreakagain · 25/12/2019 22:33

We (adults and teens) loved it. All laughed out loud several times. I think you'd definitely had to have seen the rest of the series and know the characters to properly appreciate it.
What a cliffhanger though - I would love for them to do another series.

anothernamejeeves · 25/12/2019 22:35

I've seen them all and thought the script writing has been brilliant. This though was very flat

Fluffycloudland77 · 25/12/2019 22:36

Well I didn’t like it.

BackforGood · 25/12/2019 22:37

It was built up so much, there are bound to be people who were disappointed, but I thought it was fine.
It's never been 'laugh out loud' and certainly isn't something you can understand watching as a 'one off'. All the characters built over time, and this was a reunion, so all the jokes refer to the original series.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 25/12/2019 22:39

DH and I loved it, laughed all the way through.

Nice little reference to Fat Club in there too.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 25/12/2019 22:39

Takingabreak, many of us have seen the first three series, many times, and still don't appreciate tonight's.

It's not a complicated drama either so whilst it's nice to have seen the earlier series for plot detail, it wasn't that necessary.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/12/2019 22:40

Surely there has to be another episode, if not a series, we need to know what happened next.

sunsalutations · 25/12/2019 22:41

Watched Dolly instead on BBC2. She is utterly awesome

JacquesHammer · 25/12/2019 22:45

Gosh it was hardly going to be the last word in acting was it Grin

I thought it was much like all Gavin & Stacey. Easy to watch and rather sweet in places.

GreyGardens88 · 25/12/2019 22:46

It's literally exactly the same as the old episodes, apart from the children it could have followed on directly after the last episode. I like gavin & stacey generally but never saw the fuss as to me it's just an average run of the mill sitcom

southeastdweller · 25/12/2019 22:48

I was disappointed. Not as funny as other episodes - I was groaning at the scene with Gavin and Stacey's kids interrupting their parents from having a shag, it was like something out of Terry and June from the 70s. And - what a surprise - Nessa and Smithy slept together - yawn.

BumbleBeee69 · 25/12/2019 22:51

Seriously Xmas Shock well that just adds to his natural charm.. and so perfectly cast... I'm delighted to hear this lol his wee face was such a combined Nessa/Smithy .. weirdly spot on hahaaa Xmas Grin

straighthairdontcare · 25/12/2019 22:53

I loved it!

fikel · 25/12/2019 22:55

Like a Luke warm cup of tea

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/12/2019 23:00

I loved it so did teen ds,we've watched all the series multiple times.

The only bit I didn't like was the bit on the island wheye Gavin and Stacey were pointing off into the middle distance recalling were they had snogged etc. The rest of it was perfect and the ending was GREAT!

There's no way you could watch that without the back story and get any of it so not surprised you found it dull.

GreenGrove · 25/12/2019 23:04

Hmm mixed feelings! I think it would've been enough at the end to finish with Ness telling him she loves him (I thought that was quite moving!), without her actually proposing. I don't think Ness would ever have done that

VanyaHargreeves · 25/12/2019 23:06

I was laughing from the moment they revealed their son was called Harry. Harry Shipman!

I didn't catch that, because I noticed they were called Harry, Kate and Meghan Grin

William got no look in

formerbabe · 25/12/2019 23:06

Loved it!

VanGoghsDog · 25/12/2019 23:08

Weirdly, we had subtitles on and it referred to the boy as Harri. And it got the lyrics to Fairytale wrung!
