Couldn't see what's funny about it, gave up after 5 minutes.
Bit cringey

Loved it! Laughed loads, thought it was brilliant. I'd love it if they did another series!

BumbleBeee69 · 25/12/2019 21:59

Im still laughing at Nessa challenging Doris's WILL in court.... Xmas Grin

Stilllivinghere · 25/12/2019 22:00

Loved it!

VivaLeBeaver · 25/12/2019 22:01

You gave it longer than I did, but then I never liked it in the original series much. Think I’ve watched most of them and was meh about it all.

Hepzibar · 25/12/2019 22:01

I loved it because of the nostalgia. Mick and Pam superb, Smithy, Nessa and Neil the baby brilliant, Bryn and Gwen excellent as always. Disappointing were Gavin and Stacy, and think that was their contrived storyline.

Think the introduction of Sonia was genius, she was all the people who didn't watch the original series - she just didn't get it.

Paddy1234 · 25/12/2019 22:02

Loved it!

LemonadePockets · 25/12/2019 22:04

I LOVED it !

AdelaideK · 25/12/2019 22:06

We enjoyed it. Op try watching from the first episode and you'll get to know the characters. It's a slow burner. You might like it or you may not but it's worth a go.

user32564567 · 25/12/2019 22:06

Yes, Sonia was all the people who didn't get it.

LunchBoxPolice · 25/12/2019 22:06

I was a bit disappointed with it.
I liked the toast to Doris though.

teenagetantrums · 25/12/2019 22:07

We loved it apart from the ending. Nice to catch up with them all.

Notenoughbookshelves · 25/12/2019 22:08

We loved it.

VanyaHargreeves · 25/12/2019 22:08

Gavin and Stacey were ALWAYS the shit bit of Gavin and Stacey though

It was always the support cast made it

Underneaththetree · 25/12/2019 22:10

I’ve seen one review so far on DM which isn’t impressed and says it has ‘blown’ its prime time Christmas slot. I think they did well- a lot of the appeal and humour in the initial series was quite subtle and worked well stretched across multiple episodes, so I think doing a one-off was always going to be a challenge to find the right balance and get the same ‘charm’.

Plus it being 10+ years since the last episodes everyone has obviously aged a decade which means it isn’t going to be like going straight back to the original series and can feel a bit unsettling for some, but I liked how their lives had moved on. Loved Neil the baby still being referred that way Grin

Spacerader · 25/12/2019 22:10

I loved it, I thought they didn't over do it. And I think you def need to have seen the previous series to really appreciate it and understand some of the jokes.

To a pp who mentioned that ruth hones had lost weight but looked big it is because her and James Corden were fat suits. Slimmer smythy and message just wouldn't work. Also baby neil is they boy who played baby neil as a baby. He is actually a child who lives in my town.

The ending was great, but so very frustrating, I'm hoping it sparks another series or possibly a further christmas special next year.

Iliketeaagain · 25/12/2019 22:17

I laughed the whole way through. Especially the bit in the bathroom when gavin and smithy were making fun of their old teacher and the spliff in the living room.

I love gavin and Stacey - no matter how many times I watch, I still laugh.

Summergarden · 25/12/2019 22:18

I thought it was great. A little slow to start, but soon improved.

Considering that there’s been such a long break since the last episode was filmed I thought the acting and character portrayals were pretty good.

CornedBeef451 · 25/12/2019 22:19

I've tried to watch it but just didn't find it funny. DH liked it though.

It doesn't help that I can't stand James Cordon but that's not the main problem, it just makes me cringe.

Doggodogington · 25/12/2019 22:19

We loved it, laughed all the way through!

Neil, the baby, has turned into a right cutie and I loved the relationship between him, Ness and Smithy!

StillNumb · 25/12/2019 22:20

I didn't mind it, there were a few laugh outlouds, and I am going to do Januairy! Are Gavin and Stacey living in Doris's house now? I do know this isn't real!

GooodMythicalMorning · 25/12/2019 22:21

Well I for one loved it. Dh did too! We are hoping for another season. Smithy would be a fool to turn her down.

StillNumb · 25/12/2019 22:21

Think that should be Januhairy!

Missingthesea · 25/12/2019 22:22

I enjoyed it.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 25/12/2019 22:22

Think I need to watch it again tomorrow, had such high expectations and it definitely didn't meet them.

Corden was rubbish and I usually love him.

IndianaMoleWoman · 25/12/2019 22:25

I was laughing from the moment they revealed their son was called Harry. Harry Shipman!

I really enjoyed it .
