Couldn't see what's funny about it, gave up after 5 minutes.
Bit cringey

Oh yes, I meant to say that Nessa does say. "Where to is she now, then?" in reference to Lucy in the earlier seasons, but never "What to".

ifitoldyouidhavetokissyou · 26/12/2019 21:19

But did they do that in the old ones? That’s my point. I honestly don’t remember it.

ifitoldyouidhavetokissyou · 26/12/2019 21:19

Ahh cross posted! Thanks :)

GabsAlot · 26/12/2019 21:23

GabsAlot · 26/12/2019 21:24

We are allowed not to like it, you know.

Of course you are. There just seem to be a number of people on this thread who seem determined not to like it.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 26/12/2019 21:39

Although one thing I did wonder... Gavin is told he has a low sperm count in the last series when Stacey struggles to get pregnant. Is unusual that they ended up with 3 kids?

Sperm count can be increased by changes to certain lifestyle factors.

They might have had IVF or they children could be adopted for all we know. That said, Gavin had low sperm count not none and Stacey certainly seems keen to, erm, encourage whatever might be there on as many occasions as she possibly can...

Daisydoola · 26/12/2019 21:39

Sheridan and Cordon used to date. Maybe it's awkward between them.

BumbleBeee69 · 26/12/2019 21:51

I LOVED it Xmas Grin

GabsAlot · 26/12/2019 21:52

She did say u were shocked when i told you were having a third so maybe it wasnt planned

lilgreen · 26/12/2019 21:56

‘Where to you now?’ Is a Welsh turn of phrase and was in the original series often.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 26/12/2019 21:58

Ah, I missed that bit. Probably not IVF or adoption, then.

MsTSwift · 26/12/2019 22:06

Our friends were told low sperm count lucky to conceive one ivf etc and ended up with 3 strapping dc conceived naturally so it does happen

Iggleonkupsy · 26/12/2019 22:09

I thought it was absolutely brilliant. The problem is that people built it up too much. I've just watched it back and am basically trying to picture it as not 10 years on and it is honestly just so funny!

TheFaerieQueene · 26/12/2019 22:19

I’ve just watched it. It was as it has always been - light, fluff tv. An easy way to spend an hour and that is all. Who cares if it is a weak plot or the script is a bit clunky? It’s not Solzhenitsyn.

MaggieFS · 26/12/2019 22:19

I really enjoyed it, but haven't thought too much about it. Reading posts her though reminds me I was a late watcher of the original series, which I started when there was so much hype about it, and it took me a while to get into it, so no wonder anyone who hadn't seen it before struggled.

SomewhereNow · 26/12/2019 22:30

I’ve seen all the others numerous times and I thought it was rubbish - lazy and not funny. They relied too much on rehashing jokes from previous episodes instead of coming up with anything new and the characters just didn’t seem very likeable any more. Would have been better left at the end of the last series which was perfect.

Sagradafamiliar · 26/12/2019 22:44

Low sperm count= three kids is perfectly possible, especially in fiction.

frugalkitty · 26/12/2019 23:08

I liked it, agree that it took a while to get going though. Loved the toast to Doris and the cliffhanger ending.....surely it worked because we wouldn't expect the old Nessa to propose? If we'd seen it coming it wouldn't have been as good.

DasherDancefloorPrancerKitchen · 27/12/2019 04:23

I've just got the taps gag...

Smithy is a plumber. Taps/Nessa need Smithy to work properly.

(I'm desperately trying to like that bit)

Although Joanna Page is one of the weakest actors, my DH and I were getting a bit teary at her matches monologue. We had just had a whole year day of being Mum and Dad and not 'Stacey and Gavin' and it did remind us of the start of our relationship and how the focus shifts to the kids without you realising. I thought it was well written if not well delivered.
I got a huge hug and a tearful 'I love you' from DH on the back of that scene. It could have been the Christmas WineWineWinethough.

Mrsmadevans · 27/12/2019 18:07

I don't get the taps gag

formerbabe · 27/12/2019 18:12

Was the taps joke because smithy is a plumber and Nessa was skint so he gave her taps to give out as presents?

ChristmasCroissant · 27/12/2019 18:17

The taps - and the song - completely missed the mark and just weren't funny to me at all. Others see it differently, and it's fine to agree to disagree.

silver1977 · 27/12/2019 18:42

Haven't read whole thread so may have already been mentioned but i thought it should have been on after 9pm at least. We had various age kids/teens in the room so was a bit awkward at times as inappropriate. We presumed as on at the time it was it would be ok. Other than that found it funny.

Underneaththetree · 27/12/2019 18:50

I loved how Neil the baby had wrapped his present for smithy and Nessa in tin foil
