Anyone there? Reports are sketchy at the moment. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/live/2019/nov/29/london-bridge-incident-police-city

well I've only read about one person who helped a victim @Dahlietta so reserving my judgement for the mo but definitely interesting. I think the man with the knife at the end was BTP.

Dahlietta · 30/11/2019 00:10

Yes, indeed. The early reports on this may not be true, of course.

GrouchoMrx · 30/11/2019 00:13

The guy who was on top of him said the attacker had been in prison for terrorism, apparently. Some of the guys who were on top of him were ex-prisoners and they had all been in the Fishmongers Hall.The guy told me he was in prison with the attacker.

SophieGiroux · 30/11/2019 00:21

There are some horrible videos out there on Twitter, including one of the attacked people getting CPR, which obviously failed. Not nice for anyone who knows that person to see.

Being an offender isn't necessarily the total of your character. I'd still vote for medals being awarded.

anothernamejeeves · 30/11/2019 00:41

So what if they were offenders? They stopped a crazed nutcase killing many more people and directly risked their lives

My heart goes out to absolutely everyone involved.It is beyond tragic that two people who set out this morning, never thought for a second that they’d become victims of a knife welding terrorist with fake ammo belt on too. I feel for them, their families, their friends and everyone who knew them. My heart also goes out to all of the witnesses who had to stay put because of the situation or saw it from an office building. My heart also goes out to all of the emergency services who were involved too. The policeman who shot the man has to live with that for the rest of his life, but if it wasn’t for people like him, his colleagues, heroic members of the public, etc, goodness knows how many other people he’d have managed to kill or seriously maim.
They are all in my thoughts tonight.

theflushedzebra · 30/11/2019 01:11

Fire extinguishers and a whale bone! Londoners rock.

Thanks to all those affected - so sad for the lives taken. Could have been many more but for the bravery of those men.

overnightangel · 30/11/2019 01:13

@havingtochangeusernameagain

No such thing as "terrorist", just murdering arseholes Nearly always male too. We don't have a terrorist problem, we have a male violence problem.

Wrong time to push your nonsense agenda

overnightangel · 30/11/2019 01:19

It’s strange when things like this happen in London, I’d say for 80% of the population of the UK London May as well be a foreign country as its that removed geographically/culturally/economically

overnightangel · 30/11/2019 01:21

Of course you’re left with the aftermath of this

There is a lot more good out there than bad. We are continually reminded.

For those who ran towards the danger, I salute you.

For those affected, I’m thinking of you. Sometimes sadly we are part of things that no one would wish for anyone. Flowers

@overnightangel

Don’t talk daft, male violence problem shows how little you understand. You do realise males are not females right? Go back to fairy land.

Shinesweetfreedom · 30/11/2019 02:20

Good one.Shoot to kill,none of this arrest and prison so he can come out to do it again.

overnightangel · 30/11/2019 02:38

Could you expand on this please

overnightangel · 30/11/2019 02:40

And yes thanks for that I do understand males are not females , I’m sat here in fairy land awaiting the point and link to today’s events.

pusspuss9 · 30/11/2019 02:45

@user1471510720

They're terrorists, not just males who have a violence problem.

They have a religious agenda and that is often to change our way of life.

Redrosesandsunsets · 30/11/2019 03:00

So sad to hear this has happened. Such a waste of lives and really no need for this.

Greenwingmemories · 30/11/2019 03:09

They have a religious agenda and that is often to change our way of life

A lot of the biographies I've read of these terrorists, especially the lone actors, are often people from dysfunctional families who've been petty criminals in the past, haven't really succeeded in life and find the Islamist cause gives them a sense of belonging and status. They have been exploited by people with a religious agenda, definitely but are targeted by them in the same way other cults target disaffected people.

coatlessinspokane · 30/11/2019 03:36

And yes thanks for that I do understand males are not females , I’m sat here in fairy land awaiting the point and link to today’s events.

I believe the point being made is that whilst we search for reasons for heinous violent attacks like these (mental health issues, religious fundamentalism, etc) there is one constant that seems to join them all yet which is overlooked in media discourse: biological sex.

Although one must also give credit to the biological sex of the stoppers of the crime in all fairness.

kateandme · 30/11/2019 04:00

in those situations the police are taught not to think shoot.so they dont get caught up in torment.if you have a potential bomb on you no question you must be stopped.(still as a human to human it must still be horrid to do it in real life) but my friend said they try to come up with as many scenarios as possible in training but when you have something like this there can be no questions.

as a person in the public though do you think your head just shuts down in those situations.is there something biological that kicks in in fight or fight mode and just works on adrenaline to save and protect? because i often think i would want to be that brave.that id think of mums and dads and my own and want to protect them.but your need to survive wants you to run in the other direction surely! and there arent even that many seconds to think of all these things before you must act.
becaus so many people ive seen saying how did he even get that far away before people stopped him.but could you/would you? its a bloody scary situation to be in.
