WWYD - Feel so betrayed

Need some advice please.

We moved house and applied for a school place for our DC - due to circumstances we had to rent, though we ensured we met all the criteria and it was by no means a short term let. We are in this house for at least 2 years and ideally we are looking to buy once those 2 years are up or will just carry on renting where we are.

We came to know that someone wrote a letter to the school telling them that we had given false information and that we had no intention of staying in the area. The school did their investigations with us and found that we had complied with all the criteria etc.

We asked to see a copy of the letter under DPA 2018 and I have just received it. It was handwritten and matches very closely with my best friend. It also had content in it about things which only she knew. She has just asked us to be legal guardians for her 2 DC and her and her DH's power of attorney.

WWYD?

I would ask her about it.

MeggyMeg · 25/10/2019 17:19

Wow. Show her the letter and see how she reacts?

Ohyesiam · 25/10/2019 17:20

I’d go round to her house and ask her about it.
I’m very English and non confrontational , but I’d have to talk this through.
I’d just tell her exactly what I’d seen, and ask her what she thinks and just observe what comes out of her mouth.

Samosaurus · 25/10/2019 17:21

Show her the letter and see how she reacts. What could her motivation have been for doing this? Was she hoping if you didn’t get into the school you’d move closer to her? Whatever the reason that’s a really bizarre and malicious thing to do.

MarthasGinYard · 25/10/2019 17:24

I'd get a sample of writing of hers just to double check and then I'd ask her.

ShitOnIt78 · 25/10/2019 17:24

Crikey! Shock I couldn't just sit on this, I would have to raise it with her.

Wintersnowdrop · 25/10/2019 17:25

Wow, sounds like your friendship is over. Why would she do that? Jealousy? I’d certainly talk to her about it and see what she says.

Stickysnot · 25/10/2019 17:30

I’d ask her if she knew anything about it and show her the letter
It could have cocked everything up

MrsExpo · 25/10/2019 17:36

Do you have a sample of her actual handwriting? If you're convinced she wrote it, I'd have to present her with the letter and ask her about it. If she's asked you to get involved in their lives to the extent of being their DCs guardians etc, then they clearly consider themselves close fiends, so you have to ask yourself what could have motivated her to write such a letter. Just ask her and go from there.

Knittedfairies · 25/10/2019 17:46

You could tell your friend that you have received the hand-written letter and see how she reacts. My husband and his brother have nearly identical handwriting so maybe, just maybe, she's not the author of the letter.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/10/2019 17:47

Best friend ShockShockShock

AthollPlace · 25/10/2019 17:50

I guess your friendship is over. I’d make sure she knows that you know what she’s done!

sausageandchips007 · 25/10/2019 17:55

I do have a sample of her actual writing as every year she writes me a birthday card and I am 99% sure it's her. I'm currently considering whether to engage a handwriting expert!

I'm just in shock as firstly what she wrote in the letter to the school just wasn't true and she also said that my DC had been going round saying that we had only moved to get into the school which also just isn't true.

When she asked us to be legal guardians she said that there was no one else she trusted more and that I was like her sister. I just can't believe that she would do this. The ramifications if the school hadn't accepted our counter evidence doesn't even bear thinking about.

Itsallgonewoowoo · 25/10/2019 17:58

Is there anything in it for her if they didn't get in? Just trying to think of a motive as it seems a very nasty thing to do to a friend

Felipa · 25/10/2019 17:58

Wow, what would her possible reason be?
Was she in competition with you for a school place?!

sausageandchips007 · 25/10/2019 17:59

Nothing in it for her. We live in different areas so it's not as if my DC didn't get the place then her DC would - she didn't apply to the school we applied to.

Who hand-writes a letter like that? Surely most people would type and print?

thespellhasbeenbroken123 · 25/10/2019 18:01

Omg

stayathomegardener · 25/10/2019 18:05

Can you post a sample of the writing?
There are people with a real interest in handwriting on here who may be able to advise.

She sounds jealous of you. Do you appear to "have it all" in her eyes?

sheshootssheimplores · 25/10/2019 18:07

My god 😯

Aquamarine1029 · 25/10/2019 18:08

Put the letter in front of her face and her reaction will tell you what you need to know.

HigherFurtherFasterBaby · 25/10/2019 18:09

I’d send her a photo of the letter with the word “Nah”

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 25/10/2019 18:09

Some best friend. I'm sorry OP you must feel let down by this.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/10/2019 18:11

Even if you did move house to get into a good school so fucking what! I’d go berserk- if she Denys it then Threaten with a handwriting expert.

What the hell kind of friends do you have Op

OatyGoaty · 25/10/2019 18:12

If she's asked you to get involved in their lives to the extent of being their DCs guardians etc, then they clearly consider themselves close fiends,

Fabulously Freudian typo.

Good luck OP.
