Meet my foster kitty

This is my foster kitty. Her owners are moving and won’t take her with them or find suitable place that accepts animals.

They have also let her have three litters of kittens by the age of two and it looks like she is having a fourth.

So she has come to live with me, the three chips children and sidecat. She’s off to the vets on Monday to confirm if she is or not. If she is she will be spayed as soon as recommended after kittens. If not she will be spayed ASAP.

After initial grumps from SideCat at the very indecency of us bringing another cat into the house, SideGirlCat has cosied up on middle chips bed and gone to sleep having been lovingly tucked in

They are lovely kitties! So adorable. I’m glad you have fostered the little cat and are taking her away from people who clearly shouldn’t have pets if they can’t look after them. Fingers crossed the two cats get on on now!

Be honest OP. She’s not a foster is she? You have a new cat. And she’s absolutely gorgeous. I hope for her sake that’s she’s not pregnant. Poor thing.

How did you get into fostering? How do you not get too attached?

(Aside from the fact my old girl hisses at / goes for the kids animal slippers so we've never been able to have a second cat, I dont think I'd be able to say goodbye to a new cat!!)

I’m not an official fosterer as such. My sister in law has done a lot of animal rescue over the years but she can’t have the new cat there as she has a lot of animals of her own and we are the only ones she trusts to take care of her

I imagine her previous litters have been sold off as over here there are very few kittens being born after successful neutering campaigns. If she is pregnant, her kittens will be homes through my sister in law with neutering contracts. She is lovely bless her. I imagine her and SideCat will get on eventually. He’s just been ruling the roost for many years.

And I would like to keep her. My girls love her already and she followed them upstairs happily.

I will keep you all updated if you like as to whether she is pregnant and kittens when they are born :)

Oh I hope she settles well. I have plans to convert a child’s bedroom into a foster space when they move out. But don’t tell them. Or the family!
Our girls just about sort of tolerate each other.

Fostering? Do you mean that was the line you told yourself if the cats really didn't get on?

We had a rescue girl who came to us at 2. With her 18 month old son.
She was spayed and had a pampered life until she was 19!

I know I can’t understand it. She will be spayed as soon as we can and microchipped. She is a very lovely friendly girl

We have two rescue girls now. Our lovely vets suggested microchipping whilst under general for spaying. Of course they were under house arrest until that was all done and they had recovered. I volunteer at a rescue and it makes me so sad that they’re inundated with kittens every kitten “season”.

Just checked on her before I go to bed and she seems to be settled on MiddleChips bed ❤️

It looks like she's settling in in nicely! I think she's claimed you now. You're her cat slave for life.

aww look at those lovely white paws! I think about fostering in the future when I give up work but I just know I would not be able to hand them back!

My cat is a rescue. We went to Cats Protection League and she decided she liked us and has generally been pampered and spoiled ever since. She's sixteen now and probably on her last legs. I'm sure another cat will adopt us.

Been to check her on my lunch today. She’s still very skittish with me and you can now see how skinny she really is apart from her belly poor girl

Hopefully she won't be pregnant and can be spayed now.

I'd probably even consider an abort-spay if the vet considers it appropriate because having so many litters at such a young age really takes it out of the mothers, unsurprisingly.

I foster for a small local cat rescue and we've had a few mothers like this and sadly they sometimes don't produce enough milk and the kittens either have to be hand reared, which is literally feeding them every 2 hours day and night, or if they don't come into rescue before the kittens are born, the kittens don't survive because either the mother is an outside cat fending for herself, or if she has an owner, they don't feed the mother enough, or don't seek help until they are too late and the kittens either don't survive or suffer from developmental delays due to poor nutrition.

If she does continue with the kittens, make sure you get advice about feeding her the most appropriate diet and plenty of it, both before and after birth and be prepared to seek advice, or help from an official local rescue, if it looks like she's not producing enough milk for her kittens.

@BarbaraofSeville I fully intend to ask the vet about feeding and care of her. She will be properly taken care of here

Eldest chips knows the score about her and loves her so much she has said she will help anyway she needs to. She’s a good kid so I know she will.

We haven’t gone into this eyes closed. My sil is fantastic and paying all the vets bills. We are all animal lovers in this family so she will get the best care

At the moment till she’s been to the vet she is on the same feeding as grumpysidecat. So a pouch of food morning and evening and biscuits at lunch and supper

You know you can have a spay/abort done don't you OP? I know people feel squeamish about it - but the cats don't know anything about it and it means there will be less kittens needing homes. There are already far more cats in rescues than there are potential homes - it's best to not add to the numbers if possible.

Well done for taking her in either way though.

@thecatneuterer where I am we are very lucky that actually there are cats and kittens in demand and rehomed quickly through charities as neutering and help for neutering has really helped. It has helped so much that a lot of people here actually adopt from
Abroad.

My Mum fosters cats, she’s had near 30 since she started, sometimes for a few days, sometimes for months, she gets attached but is always happy when they go to good forever homes.
