Cat ate a mouse whole, seems to be feeling rough!

DD saw our cat swallow a mouse whole this morning 🤢. He was seemingly fine all day and ate his dinner but now appears very uncomfortable - hissed at me, cries if I try to pick him up, seems to have tummy ache and is wobbly on his legs. I think it must be due to the mouse as he’s not injured. His breathing is fine. Kids worrying he won’t last the night but I think they are being dramatic. Thoughts? Apart from thoughts about him being a bad mouse-murderer which we have already had!

Oh @tunnocksreturns2019 I'm so sorry. What an incredibly hard 6 years it's been for you. I know what you mean about wanting someone else to be responsible apart from you.
It will be okay.
Thanks and Wine, hope you get your bath and good news about your cat. You're doing amazing

tunnocksreturns2019 · 20/10/2019 23:00

Thank you all for posting. I’m suddenly quite pathetic this evening and it is kind and helpful of you all. I will be back on to counting blessings mode before too long. If DCat gets better.

Actually it’s a blessing DCs were when I realised cat really wasn’t right. They need their sleep after both having sleepovers last night. And thank goodness it didn’t happen on DDs birthday

Bless you and your lovely DCat. Fingers crossed that his injuries arnt too severe and he's back home with you soon Flowers

One blessing is that your friend was able to pop round so you could take cat to vets pronto.

You might feel alone and you are doing it by yourself most of the time but it sounds as if you have friends who can be there when you need them Smile

And sounds like DD had a wonderful birthday.

I'm rooting for your cat and feeling positive!

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/10/2019 23:06

I remember all your threads about your lovely DH Tunnocks. I know a little of how it feels when everyone says how well you are coping and you think "Well, I've got no bloody choice, have I?"*

My cat ended up with a limp but it didn't slow him down at all. They are tough little critters.

*Different situation to yours

Here he is napping feeling wonky earlier

You're not pathetic at all.
My DB cat was hit by a car when she was just a kitten. Similar to your cat. She had her leg amputated and 10 years on she is still the little placid loveliest girl Grin

Kleptronic · 20/10/2019 23:08

tunnocks you are more grown up than the most grown-up person I know (me) and I get it, I do, when IS the grown-up going to get here exactly?!? Especially the one who signed up for it with you.

It's so hard, he's not going to turn up, the grown-up is you. I know you're tired but you have got this, you have totally got this Thanks doesn't help when you don't want it, but you have it. You are and you do well.

PixieDustt · 20/10/2019 23:08

Omg he is beautiful

It sounds really tough for you. Try and get some sleep. Your kitty is in the best place x

Threeminis · 20/10/2019 23:11

He is gorgeous!
I agree with the pp who advised to pour the wine

Blueshadow · 20/10/2019 23:12

Poor you and poor cat. They really do have nine lives and are super tough. I expect he will be fine. Being grown up is such hard going sometimes.

SciFiScream · 20/10/2019 23:13

I just said an extra special good night to my cats as a homage to yours. He is gorgeous.
I think don't drink wine, go to bed and try to sleep. Have wine to celebrate when cat home from vets.

Hugs.

What a handsome chap.

Sending healing thoughts to him and unmumsnetty hugs to you, Tunnocks. I hope you’re able to get a good night’s rest. Flowers

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/10/2019 23:15

Beautiful cat!

Lindy2 · 20/10/2019 23:15

Your lovely cat is in the right place receiving the right care. You've done all you can.

Stay strong.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 20/10/2019 23:16

Another hand holder who knows you from the old threads (I’ve name changed a few times since). I’m glad you’re back on MN so that at least you’ve got some ‘virtual people’ to keep you company tonight and who are sending warm thoughts to you and your ginger. Glad people mentioned poisoned mouse and you were able to get to the vets tonight and found out what happened. Fingers crossed you hear more soon and that it’s positive. The waiting for news from a doctor must bring back all sorts of horrible memories, not surprised you’re in floods of tears.
