Cat ate a mouse whole, seems to be feeling rough!

DD saw our cat swallow a mouse whole this morning 🤢. He was seemingly fine all day and ate his dinner but now appears very uncomfortable - hissed at me, cries if I try to pick him up, seems to have tummy ache and is wobbly on his legs. I think it must be due to the mouse as he’s not injured. His breathing is fine. Kids worrying he won’t last the night but I think they are being dramatic. Thoughts? Apart from thoughts about him being a bad mouse-murderer which we have already had!

Whinge as much as you need to! You're doing an amazing job with your kids (and cat!).

tunnocksreturns2019 · 20/10/2019 22:48

I want DH here telling me everything’s going to be fine. He was good at that. He often did it despite evidence to the contrary which could be annoying but balanced out my tendency to catastrophise 😅

Sending you a massive big hug and hoping you can get some sleep. Can’t imagine the anguish of writing daddy cards. Also hoping this is only one failed attempt on the cats nine lives and it is feeling better for some pain relief. Have an unmumsnetty hug.

AnotherEmma · 20/10/2019 22:50

Oh OP Flowers
I hope she doesn't mind me mentioning her but I wonder if @Somerville might have some words of comfort for you.

drspouse · 20/10/2019 22:50

Oh no, poor cat! Hope he's OK.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 20/10/2019 22:50

Crying and crying. To be fair I’ve needed to cry for weeks.

I'm so sorry what a hard weekend for you. Cat is now in the best hands. Have a good cry - make sure you've eaten something and have a soothing cup of something warm. Thinking of you

Threeminis · 20/10/2019 22:53

Oh op, I'm so sorry to read your update.
You did the right thing though, you got him the help he needed. I hope your dcat is ok.
Look after yourself, allow yourself to cry - you don't need to be 'strong' all the time Thanks

tunnocksreturns2019 · 20/10/2019 22:54

Oh gosh I am so exhausted from being the only responsible adult in this house. Three years of doing this alone; six years since DH was diagnosed. DCs still primary school age. Urgh.

Tunnocks, I rarely post but lurk. I remember your threads about your DH. Your cat is in safe hands and is being looked after, there is nothing more you can do. I totally understand how at times like this eg birthdays etc your grief hits you hard. It's like being in a boat at sea when a big wave comes out of nowhere and almost capsizes you. I hope you get some rest tonight and wake up to positive news about your kitty in the morning. X

StudentHelp · 20/10/2019 22:54

Ah bless you, OP! Your cat is in the best place for him right now and hopefully the loveable bugger has just given you a scare but you’ve done everything right and given him the best chance.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/10/2019 22:54

Oh Tunnocks Flowers.

My cat was hit by a car and dragged himself home. He had a badly broken pelvis and other injuries but recovered and lived to a ripe old age.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 20/10/2019 22:55

Thanks everyone x

Bless you OP.

I "see" you here on and off and always feel immense respect for you. You are doing all you can do and you are doing it with poise, grace, good humour and love. Your humanity is very plain to see.

Please be kind to yourself

  • bloody cats will always be the bane of our lives. My 12yo kitty managed to fall off a 30ft roof and go awol for 3 days (with a damaged leg!!)

Let us know how puss gets on Flowers

tunnocksreturns2019 · 20/10/2019 22:55

Bore I am going to cling to that story

Have a really good cry, sob it out. I ashwarya find it helps. Be sad, be angry, be tired. Be whatever you need to be. Fingers crossed your cat makes a fill recovery. You're doing a great job, the kids are lucky you have you!

BarbaraStrozzi · 20/10/2019 22:55

Oh god, Flowers and a hand hold OP. Keeping everything crossed for your cat.

Beamur · 20/10/2019 22:55

Hugs Flowers
What a rotten end to the weekend. Hope your cat is fine. Things like this can release bottled up feelings.
Have a good cry, it can be very therapeutic.

Letthemysterybe · 20/10/2019 22:55

Ah bless you, have a good old ‘whinge’ and a bloody good cry. Let it all out.

It sounds like you’re doing a seriously good job of being strong and holding it all together, but nobody can be strong all of the time.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 20/10/2019 22:56

I’m shivering and I feel sick. It’s not really about the cat though it is also about the cat.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 20/10/2019 22:56

You poor thing, you've had quite the weekend of it.

Pour the wine, take it to bed with a hot water bottle, try to get some sleep. God love you wee lass.

InglouriousBasterd · 20/10/2019 22:57

Flowers he’s in the right place.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 20/10/2019 22:57

Everyone expects so much. At home and work. People seem to think I’m some sort of superwoman. I’m not.
