Cat ate a mouse whole, seems to be feeling rough!

DD saw our cat swallow a mouse whole this morning 🤢. He was seemingly fine all day and ate his dinner but now appears very uncomfortable - hissed at me, cries if I try to pick him up, seems to have tummy ache and is wobbly on his legs. I think it must be due to the mouse as he’s not injured. His breathing is fine. Kids worrying he won’t last the night but I think they are being dramatic. Thoughts? Apart from thoughts about him being a bad mouse-murderer which we have already had!

Okay mouse a complete red herring. I did wonder. It was DD who said she saw him with one but then there was no evidence. It now looks like he came in looking wild (like he does when he has a mouse) because he’d been hit by a car. Feel awful as we were then out all day 😞. His back leg and pelvis are very sore. He’s been given methadone; x rays next. They’re really busy tonight so she said it’ll be about 2am when I hear results. His vital signs are good but he’s in a lot of pain. So worried!

Your poor cat How upsetting and worrying for you. It is amazing that he made it home and seemed ok at first - hopefully that's a good sign that his injuries are not too extensive. Glad you were able to take him to vet and he is being well looked after by the sounds of it.

Poor kitty. I hope hes ok

It was DD’s birthday this weekend. She had a lovely time - family gathering follows by sleepover with best friend. There was a fair about of holding it together from me even though it’s the third birthday she’s had since he died. We sat in cafes whilst DH wrote birthday cards for them until they turn 18. She loved getting another ‘Daddy card’. It breaks my heart.

So I’m feeling a bit shattered and I’d run a bath and poured a glass of wine; then realised the cat wasn’t right. Bath is cold, wine is back in the bottle and I just want DH here to help me deal with the latest drama.

I’m so tired. I’m so so tired. I’ve tried so hard for so long.
