Cat ate a mouse whole, seems to be feeling rough!

DD saw our cat swallow a mouse whole this morning 🤢. He was seemingly fine all day and ate his dinner but now appears very uncomfortable - hissed at me, cries if I try to pick him up, seems to have tummy ache and is wobbly on his legs. I think it must be due to the mouse as he’s not injured. His breathing is fine. Kids worrying he won’t last the night but I think they are being dramatic. Thoughts? Apart from thoughts about him being a bad mouse-murderer which we have already had!

So I dreamt the back garden was full of iguanas who had been fighting my cat 🤷‍♀️

Iguanas Grin

I was thinking about what you were saying yesterday about everyone expecting so much from you. I hope you know that you can always come here just to go AAARRGGHHHHHH!!! and have a whinge and a cry and a rant.

I've never forgotten you and your DH and I always smile when I come across a post from you.

Hope your cat is ok this morning

Thanks

I have two cats that have been hit by a car, both survived, both was just battered and bruised and couldn't stand, took a couple of weeks for them to bounce back, one of them sticks to the garden now (not complaining) but the other still goes wandering, he was a stray though so it's in his nature, it's such a worry and awful to see them that way, especially for you with it been your DH's cat. I really hope you get good news this morning.

OneOfTheGrundys · 21/10/2019 07:52

Good luck today.
My dog’s my rock. My DH has a few years to live, maybe less and the animals are more than pets to us.
I’m holding the thought of you all close today OP.
Xx

Teacakeandalatte · 21/10/2019 08:09

Hope your cat is Ok and has just used one of his 9 lives. 🐈
I work in a school so when my dd was little I never got any time off when she wasn't there. It's a bummer! I love dd but there's nothing like a day to yourself occasionally.

Dollymixture22 · 21/10/2019 08:09

Sounds positive😊. Hopefully the pain killers are helping and he got a good nights sleep.

Keep us posted on how today goes

Hopefully he’s just a bit bruised/sore then and the painkillers will soon get on top of it.

Horsemad · 21/10/2019 08:24

Fingers crossed for your beautiful cat. I think I remember you saying he was from an Egyptian Street Cat Rescue, is that right?

You've all been through so much, you're doing amazingly well keeping all the balls in the air and it's not at all surprising you feel like this. Flowers

DogsandBoysmeanMud · 21/10/2019 08:30

Good luck OP.

Babdoc · 21/10/2019 08:37

OP, I’m sending a big hug. I think a lot of your distress is not related to the cat - his injury was just the last straw when you’ve been running on empty for a long time.
If he can move his back legs and is passing urine normally, then he definitely doesn’t have a complete spinal cord transection, although he may have bruising and soft tissue injury.
I’m more concerned about you. You need someone to offload to in real life, as well as on MN. You’re carrying a heavy load single handed, and you could use some support.
I know what that feels like- I was widowed with two babies, and my nearest relatives 250 miles away. I brought them up alone, but it was exhausting and stressful, and I still miss DH 28 years later.
My support system was the excellent minister at my church, regular phone calls from an understanding elderly aunt, and prayer. God carried me through the worst bits.
Your choice of support may be different, but you do need some. You must be kind to yourself- don’t try to be superwoman, don’t set impossible expectations. If you and the kids are fed and watered, and you get to work on time - that’s good enough. Anything else is a bonus!
Allow yourself to cry. You will need to do that periodically for years. It’s a good stress reliever. And give yourself credit for getting this far, and coping so well. God bless.

Shannith · 21/10/2019 08:41

I OP. Glad it's positive new for your beautiful cat.

I have also lurked and sometimes posted on your posts and I do think you are a superwoman.

You know why? It's because you are simply and beautifully honest about about how sad, angry and vulnerable you are.

Your love for your DH and DC shines so fiercely and you are a wonderful human being despite all the shit life throws at you.

You are an inspiration. Not for holding it together and the brave face, but for being you - honest, flawed and full of love.

lululup · 21/10/2019 08:41

Ah babe. God love you. Sounds really tough.

WellThisIsShit · 21/10/2019 08:44

Those pesky iguanas, hurting your poor kitty!

I know exactly what you mean about waiting for the other grown up, who never comes. That’s me too. So sodding exhausting xxx

AlexaShutUp · 21/10/2019 08:44

You're doing brilliantly, OP.Flowers Hope that the cat soon makes a full recovery.

TanteRose · 21/10/2019 08:46

Aww Tunnocks hope DCat is okay!

Big hugs to you Flowers

peppinanna · 21/10/2019 08:48

Sending lots of love to you and your family and your lovely cat ThanksThanks

MrsMozartMkII · 21/10/2019 08:50

Sending you a hug lass.

Another 'cat hit by car and was okay' tale - one of mine had a broken leg thanks to a car. A lot of TLC and some time and he was fine.

I hope there's good news today.

Pinkkahori · 21/10/2019 08:59

Another positive recovery story - this time last year our little black cat didnt come home one night. She dragged herself as close to the house as she could and we found down her in the morning injured and dirty with her tongue hanging out.
She had a broken jaw and lots of cuts and bruises.
She had her jaw wired and it was a slow recovery but she is now a beautiful healthy glossy black cat again.
Wishing you all the best.

Shinesweetfreedom · 21/10/2019 09:05

You have been holding it together so long trying to be strong and you needed a good cry to let it all out or you will go bang.

theemmadilemma · 21/10/2019 09:17

Oh fingers crossed it just bruising. Flowers

Skyejuly · 21/10/2019 09:25

Hope he is ok!

livefornaps · 21/10/2019 09:26
