What do you still buy that you're convinced no one else still does?

Title may have been a slight exaggeration, but is there anything you continue to purchase ( be it groceries, cleaning products, home bits etc) that is maybe seen as outdated, useless, old fashioned or just generally unliked by the masses , that you continue to buy?

Mine is Fisherman's Friend. I love them but have never found anyone else who still buys them!

Re bar soap - we weren’t allowed it at work (NHS) as not compatible with hand hygiene standards. We weren’t allowed any old liquid soap either, it had to be the regulation NHS liquid soap from the standard soap dispenser, which I found quite drying with the amount of times we had to wash hands each day. But in general I find liquid soaps less drying - maybe just me though.

Napisan, for my laundry

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 20/10/2019 10:00

I agree about the NHS soap, sand. It absolutely destroys the skin on my hands when I wash my hands at the hospital. Even just once is enough to do it.

Coal tar soap, love the smell. On occasion from poundland, Boyes, hb/b&m you can get the liquid soap one... Heaven!

Used to love spam as mentioned up thread too until one fateful spam fritter from the chippy gave me horrendous food poisoning. Can't even think about touching it now

Signal toothpaste. Have to bulk buy online now.

Talking of crisps and a bit off topic. Anyone wonder why Walkers decided to put their cheese and onion crisps in blue packs and salt & vinegar in green? Everyone else is the other way! Cheese & onion just don’t taste the same out of a blue packet.

Nooo It's the other way round. Cheese and onion have to be in a blue packet.

katewhinesalot · 20/10/2019 10:54

Home bargains sold little bottles of babycham with an original style glass, last Christmas.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/10/2019 11:00

Marrow bones. Waitrose do them for £1. I use it in lasagnes and steak and kidney puddings.

MrsExpo · 20/10/2019 15:58

Old fashioned pink Windowlene ...... better than the sprays.

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/10/2019 16:01

@Fluffycloudland77
I adore bone marrow, along similar lines I buy oxtail from Morrison's.
It makes the most amazing ragu.
Ditto beef heart.

LowandLucky Yes to Napisan! I can't find it now anywhere!

justasking111 · 20/10/2019 18:18

Napisan is exactly the same stuff as Vanish stain remover, tis all oxygen bleach used by industrial laundries to treat bed linen and towels.

sueelleker · 20/10/2019 19:27

Collis Brown medicine. It's for dodgy tummies and sickness. It has morphine in! It is a weird brown colour that you dilute with warm water and it tastes minty. Really hard to get nowadays - in fact I bet the bottle I have downstairs is out of date
I used to work in a chemists in the 70's,and we had to be careful who we sold it to. We had a lot of addicts trying to buy it.

lotusbell · 20/10/2019 21:18

Eeeee Collis Brown!!! Parents swore by it, I hated the stuff! You can't get it anymore can you?

peridito · 20/10/2019 22:15

I believe Collis Browne is still on sale but no longer has morphine in it .

Lowlandlucky · 21/10/2019 09:13

KidRock Wilko's sell, you will find it beside the nappies, think it is £2.99 a box and is better value than vanish etc

Pigs trottersGrin

Walking ds home from playgroup in Rome we'd stop at the icecream place where he'd choose 3 flavours for his cone, with a big blob of whipped cream on top, and then call in at the deli next door where I'd buy a marinated pigs trotter for me and we'd both munch/lick on the way down the road.BrilliantStar
Now I'm in Birmingham and ds is long since grown up and away,I found that you can buy them in the market, so, with help of my Italian cookbook I can replicate them perfectly.
And so, some times, I doGrin

Stumpedasatree · 21/10/2019 14:31

Forgot to add Ovaltine and Horlicks. My comfort drinks, especially when cold.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/10/2019 15:28

I'm so at home on this thread Halloween Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/10/2019 15:36
