What do you still buy that you're convinced no one else still does?

Title may have been a slight exaggeration, but is there anything you continue to purchase ( be it groceries, cleaning products, home bits etc) that is maybe seen as outdated, useless, old fashioned or just generally unliked by the masses , that you continue to buy?

Mine is Fisherman's Friend. I love them but have never found anyone else who still buys them!

GGsMumma sadly not. The last time I had those was in the 70's, they were 4p for a small roll of about 8. Absolutely loved them and as we could only get them in the chemist we were only allowed to have them when we were ill.

MadisonAvenue · 17/10/2019 21:29

GGsMumma How strange! I was waiting to be served in a chemist today and did a quick scan of the counter on the off chance that a small independent would stock them! I used to love Horlicks tablets.

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 17/10/2019 21:43

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles I was at an auction less than a month ago and four came up, they went for a good £30-40 each (and that's in a small backwater town) couldn't believe it!

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 17/10/2019 21:45

(I'm meaning the rotary phones in my last post)

capsule · 17/10/2019 21:48

camp coffee (for cakes)
loose leaf tea
sardines
bar soap - didn't realise that this dates me!
washing powder

enjoyingscience · 17/10/2019 21:54

I’m stunned by how out of touch I am! Living like a true child of the 80s I guess.

Washing powder, bar soap, tinned sardines (for the kids, I’m veggie), loose leaf tea, iceberg lettuce.

I’m trying to get the kids into primula too, because it’s such a great company.

dementedma · 17/10/2019 22:00

Definitely bar soap, Dove is nice.
Bicarb of soda for cleaning
Soda crystals for sinks
Does anyone remember Robin Spray Starch?

LittleAndOften · 17/10/2019 22:38

@enjoyingscience Grin I just misread your post as "it's such great company" and pictured you chatting to a tube of squeezy cheese 😂

Hadenoughofitall441 · 17/10/2019 22:40

Full briefs b3cause I like to show no cheeks 😁

enjoyingscience · 17/10/2019 22:42

@LittleAndOften the plain one is great crack, but the one with chives has no sense of humour at all. Ham doesn’t let you get a word in edgeways.

LittleAndOften · 17/10/2019 22:53

@enjoyingscience Grin what about prawn? So they still make prawn? I never tried him but imagine he'd be fun at a party.

Longdistance · 17/10/2019 23:03

Lunch tongue 😛 so 80’s.

Lyingonthesofainthedark · 17/10/2019 23:20

Soda crystals.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/10/2019 23:38

I love tongue, I buy it most weeks.

timshelthechoice · 17/10/2019 23:48

A cheaper alternative to hankies is bandanas. You can get loads on Ebay very cheaply.

Sshhbear · 18/10/2019 00:30

Ohilovedinosaurs, I agree about the hankies. My teens think it's disgusting that as a young person, I used hankies. No doubt that in the next couple of decades they will disappear from the usual places then become a speciality purchase in the 'healthy/organic' shops for 3 times the regular price. My parents (70s) still use them and in all honesty, if I had one in my house, it wouldn't bother me if I used one.

SpiderCharlotte · 18/10/2019 06:57

@enjoyingscience. I also misread your post and wondered what I was missing out on by not chatting to my dairy produce. I'll be sure to have a hearty morning chart with the milk this morning. 😆

SpiderCharlotte · 18/10/2019 06:59

Or even a morning chat. I won't make a chart that would be taking things too far ...

Fatshedra · 18/10/2019 07:22

I have pudding rice in the cupboard, I sometimes make rice pud for the adult DCs but usually add it to veg soups. It works well, I prefer it to lentils and it has a slight thickening quality to the liquid. Only needs a level tablespoon to 1-2 litres soup.

nakedavengeragain · 18/10/2019 09:17

Does anyone buy tinned PEK ham in aspic? It was the centrepiece of my grandmothers buffet. That and the open pease pudding stotties. PEK ham and pease pudding surely doesn't exisiting any more.

GGsMumma · 18/10/2019 11:13

@TroysMammy and @MadisonAvenue genuinely heartbroken they sound absolutely delicious, going to email Horlicks and ask them to make them again!

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/10/2019 12:25

I make Pease pudding, I'm sure you can buy it in the north east but I don't live there anymore

Gatekeeper · 18/10/2019 12:27

@nakedavengeragain

I still buy tinned Pek (from B&M)- love the jelly in it- as it makes fab sandwiches. Also still buy pease pudden from Aldi or Heron foods and both combined in a git big chod of stottie is the food of gods

Gatekeeper · 18/10/2019 12:33

anyone hankering after Blue Pears soap- they sell it in Savers and also online at Superdrug

enjoyingscience · 18/10/2019 13:36

Pease pudding is a massive treat when I go home. I reckon it’s due a Renaissance, it’s basically northern hummus - low fat, high protein excellentness.
