What do you still buy that you're convinced no one else still does?

Title may have been a slight exaggeration, but is there anything you continue to purchase ( be it groceries, cleaning products, home bits etc) that is maybe seen as outdated, useless, old fashioned or just generally unliked by the masses , that you continue to buy?

Mine is Fisherman's Friend. I love them but have never found anyone else who still buys them!

Semolina isn't an outdated thing to have. We buy it in bulk to sprinkle over the base of our home made pizzas before we put them in our ( new-fangled) outdoor pizza oven.

Pressed Pork Tongue for sandwiches. Yum!

mizzmelli · 17/10/2019 05:53

You can all get more or less every single ITEM in B n M! Trust me lol, i live ten mins away from one!

NewYoiker · 17/10/2019 06:06

Milk of magnesia. It's a god send! Clears me out completely when I'm having a bad Crohns flare and it's randomly gone to impaction. It's also amazing as a primer for makeup

Dowser · 17/10/2019 06:54

I don’t buy it but used to love the st dalfour jams. I thought they were a thing of the past till I spotted them in a Tenerife supermarket yesterday. Wonder if they are still available in the uk

One of the budget shops used to sell them so were probably only £1 or less

Dowser · 17/10/2019 06:55

How much do you take new yoiker

CrazyAllAroundMe · 17/10/2019 07:08

@ SamBeckett can't tag you but I'm so jealous of that eye level grill. Everything tasted better!

Bar soap I've never used anything different.

I've never had a microwave and wash up in a bowl.

My brother eats tinned fish for lunch he's 30 no one else in our family eats it and my mum never bought it so not sure what made him start but I always have a few tins in the cupboard for when he pops over.
I use Epsom salts when needed... Tastes vile but does the job haha
Cleaned with zoflora and many other things before it was called 'hinching'

imsoootired · 17/10/2019 07:20

Ah that reminds me of home meals ... I do miss things like that being veggie now always with peas for vegetable and mash !

Saffronesque · 17/10/2019 07:41

@buttybach

Where can you get Shalimar from??

crabb · 17/10/2019 07:46

Hankies are definitely on the way back. There are fantastic handkerchief shops online - I’ve bought from hankys.com.au for DH, who is a long-term dedicated hanky user. They’re not cheap but solid with properly rolled hems, great colours and patterns. Great as gifts! I live in Aus, don’t know if they deliver elsewhere but I’m sure there are plenty of other shops out there.

And flannels (face washers here) - I’m so devoted to them that I even travel with one in case (horror of horrors) there isn’t one in the hotel.

nannieann · 17/10/2019 07:55

@RhinoskinhaveI
They sell Aniseed Fisherman's Friends at our Asda. They are round and in a blue bordered packet.

These smoked cheese 'sausages' in the brown plastic with metal tied off ends. BLOODY LUSH.

TheLittleDogLaughed · 17/10/2019 08:18

nakedavengeragain I love those! You’ve made me want one now ...

SamBeckett · 17/10/2019 08:20

To PP up thread, ginger wine is made by stones and crabbies the latter is the better imo. But Tescos own is nice too ( hick )

Lessthanzero · 17/10/2019 08:22

Shake n vac

nakedavengeragain · 17/10/2019 08:30

TheLittleDogLaughed Any supermarket. £1. The biggest treat ever in this house. Waitrose used to sell mini ones in a net. I was devastated when they discontinued them.

Dowser

St Dalfour is still available in the UK. I have raspberry and strawberry flavours in my fridge at the moment Smile

FriedasCarLoad · 17/10/2019 09:30

@Katinski

Oh I practically lived on Gentlemen’s Relish at university, but can’t find it anywhere nowadays. Where si you get it from?

My son loves these “sausage cheese”

Is it?? I might try this

Celticrose · 17/10/2019 11:01

Bar soap
Bisto gravy powder. Was in Tescos before last Christmas and a lady was looking for it and the assistant really didn't know what she was on about. They do keep it but must have run out of it
Cloth hankies for Dh. He does use tissues -we go through a shed load of them- but always likes to have a cloth one in his pocket
Napisan no kids but great for washing underwear at low temps
Goddards foaming silver cleaner as well mostly by dh but getting harder to get.
Salad cream
Have one of those gadgets for piercing holes in tins. I use for tins of condensed milk as it makes them easier to pour. Used to use them years ago for tins of coke before ring pulls where invented.

Celticrose · 17/10/2019 11:09

I have a bag of marrowfat peas in my cupboard which are instant. Think the brand is Erin an Irish brand. Remember the ones you had to soak overnight with the big white tablet. Once camping with the Girl Guides I forgot to soak them and tried to do it for a few hours in the morning. That didn't work out wellBlush

Skyejuly · 17/10/2019 11:10

I love salad cream. I thought everyone brought it

Redrosesandsunsets · 17/10/2019 11:23

Bars of soap - wouldn’t use anything else.
Bleach - I still use bleach and love it. I also mix it with water (1:10) in my own spray container to sanitize with an old style kitchen cloth across my surfaces. No wet wipes here.

Redrosesandsunsets · 17/10/2019 11:29

Also love Vim still for bathrooms, and we use flannels. Didn’t realize people don’t use flannels as face cloths anymore.
