What do you still buy that you're convinced no one else still does?

Title may have been a slight exaggeration, but is there anything you continue to purchase ( be it groceries, cleaning products, home bits etc) that is maybe seen as outdated, useless, old fashioned or just generally unliked by the masses , that you continue to buy?

Mine is Fisherman's Friend. I love them but have never found anyone else who still buys them!

I'm sure you can buy it in the north east but I don't live there anymore

Smile This reminds me of two former colleagues, one of whom was a Geordie. Every time she went home, the other one begged her to bring back tins of pease pudding. He had worked in the north east and developed a taste for it.

I have never tried it but I love enjoyingscience's description of it being northern hummus. I am sure that an enterprising person could read through this thread and make a fortune rebranding most of the things mentioned here as retro chic. Especially like idea of pease pudding served with smashed avocado.

I love this thread. I am off now to buy a tube of Primula so I have got some company for this afternoon.

enjoyingscience · 18/10/2019 16:32

I did have a slightly drunk plan to flog it at an enormous mark up at the Henley regatta. It just needs the right marketing.

Enjoy your primula - don’t let it give you any cheek.

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/10/2019 17:14

I need to get in on that.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/10/2019 17:15

I don’t think that it’s been mentioned on this thread but I bought shiny sinks today, my sinks will gleam tomorrow.

It’s not tested on animals either.

enjoyingscience · 18/10/2019 17:26

@IHaveBrilloHair - yes! We’ll be rich beyond our wildest dreams!

PigletJohn · 18/10/2019 19:29

I don't like it, but I've seen it around.

When I moved here I knew a Tesco person, and I commented on the poor range. He said they keep different stock depending on the prosperity and tastes of local people. The next town along keeps more upmarket stuff.

smemorata · 18/10/2019 19:39

Anybody still eat junket?

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/10/2019 20:06

@enjoyingscience
Oh, I'm not doing it for the money*, I just want to introduce the amazingness that is Pease pudding to the masses.

This threads got me looking for a cruelty free version of Windowlene Cream, can’t find one though 😿.

peridito · 19/10/2019 09:02

@peachgreen - please could you say more about the semolina +custard powder pudding ,I love semolina 🙏

I've only got half way through this thread ( page 10) so apologies if you've explained and I've missed it !

SamBeckett · 19/10/2019 11:34

@Wombleish I agree , I think low level grills are hopeless you keep having to pull the grill pan out to check your toast and the second you forget its burnt to a crisp . and toasters are just naff , yes you can make toast but what about the rest of your breakfast , sausages , bacon , hash browns.

SamBeckett · 19/10/2019 11:38

@NoProblem123
And boxes of Radox bath salts -saving on the plastic again and they are way better than bubble bath for achey muscles
you can still buy this I got some from Tescos a few weeks ago and I have seen it in either Home bargings or B&M

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/10/2019 11:51

Radox is tested on animals, And owned by Unilever who are big users of animal testing.

You could look for an Epsom salt not tested on animals, that would also soothe muscles or bicarbonate of soda for softer bath water.

NoProblem123 · 19/10/2019 12:02

@fluffycloud - really ?! I never knew that.
Not buying radox if they test on animals ☹️
Epsom from now on.

Katinski · 19/10/2019 12:38

Someone asked where I bought my last Gentleman's Relish? I'm in Birmingham and so it must have been in the Food Hall of one of the big stores I think. Either there or Partridges,Sloan Street,London.
And whoever asked about Shalimar, there's an online site that sources hard to find - escentials, I think. I got my last trip-down-memory-lane bottle of Quadrille by Balenciaga from there. Still lovely.Smile

userxx · 19/10/2019 12:45

@Fluffycloudland77 This thread has made me look at cruelty free products and I'm stunned at how many still are testing on animals.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/10/2019 13:33

I know, it’s abhorrent. Method and Ecover used to be ok, then they got sold to a company that tests.

Weirdly cheaper products like Waitrose essential, Aldi, astonish, M&S and co-op own brand are all cruelty free.

SpiderCharlotte · 19/10/2019 13:58

I use The Pink Stuff. V cheap, absolutely great cleaner and not tested on animals.

WombleishofThigh · 19/10/2019 14:07

Astonish cleaning products are cruelty free. As are Dri Pak, who make soda crystals, citric acid, bicarbonate of soda for cleaning etc.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/10/2019 14:21

Shiny sinks et al are safe too. My sink looked AMAZING for a whole 5 minutes last night before dh did his pizza.

nettie434 · 19/10/2019 15:47

Thanks for that info Fluffycloudland77. I had always thought those brands were safe. I am going to be more careful now.

MissBattleaxe · 19/10/2019 15:59

@Saffronesque Guerlain Shaliamr is still in production ( and is a classic!). You can buy it on Amazon, The Perfume Shop, Escentual, lots of places.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/10/2019 16:38

@Nettie434

It’s a total minefield these days.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/10/2019 17:14

I still occasionally wear Amarige perfume, it's lovely.

Susiesoap7 · 19/10/2019 19:37
