Mine was egg and crab purchased in an Italian bar. Closely followed by prawns in dill mayonnaise that Pret sold years ago.

You?

A little sandwich shop round the corner from my old job used to make a pili pili baguette. It was a hot filling: chicken in a spicy sauce, piled into a freshly baked baguette with mayonnaise and lettuce. You had to get there early because they would run out. On the really good days, you'd catch a batch of baguettes just as they came out of the oven, and then you'd queue hoping the cold ones would be used up before you got to the front. I changed job but promised my son I would get him one if we were ever passing. Sadly, it had closed when we tried.

My boss used to make the best sandwiches ever. Rare roast beef finely sliced on thick crusty bloomer, proper butter, a smear of horseradish and some rocket. It was incredible. I try and recreate it every so often but the beef's too tough or the bread's not quite right. Never managed such perfection.

Katinski that is a lovely way to remember your friend.

I used to eat home grown tomato sandwiches as a young child, it brings back happy memories.
