Mine was egg and crab purchased in an Italian bar. Closely followed by prawns in dill mayonnaise that Pret sold years ago.

You?

Katz’s deli reuben, oh goodness it is glorious. I’ve never had pastrami that good before or since. I’m going back to New York next year specifically for that sandwich Grin

Collision · 08/10/2019 16:29

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I could eat your sandwich right now.

Talcott2007 · 08/10/2019 16:29

In Rome we were recommend by a local to go to this very out of the way sandwich bar and deli where all of the locals got their lunch. We had one of their specials - a giant fresh baked crusty bread which had prosciutto, bresaola, whipped goats cheese, toasted pine nuts and lashings of honey. Honesty there were no words for how good it was. I actually heard music when I ate it!

A breakfast ciabatta I used to get from a café when I was at university. If a burrito counts, then a pulled pork burrito from Mission in Oxford. I'm fussy about sandwiches- really don't like pre-packaged ones (except in places like Pret where they are freshly made).

Oh my god, I am a lover of sandwiches (and I’m hungry) you are making me quite cross!

Mine was a medium sandwich, smoked meat with a scraping of mustard, from Schwartz’s in Montreal, with a side of fries and a coke. Just. Devine. I would go back just for one of those, they were so good.

Badtasteflump · 08/10/2019 16:38

Pretty much anything from Earl of Sandwich - especially Le Frenchy. Hmmmm feeling hungry now.

BillieEilish · 08/10/2019 16:39

I've had that sandwich Eliza!

timeforawine · 08/10/2019 16:41

Roast chicken and gravy in a warm buttered crusty baguette. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

ElizaPancakes · 08/10/2019 16:44

@BillieEilish OMG isn’t it the absolute best?! I literally haven’t had one since 2005 Shock and I’m salivating remembering it. It was the best thing ever on a chilly winters morning the day after a heavy sesh! Grin

Mightywease · 08/10/2019 16:44

There used to be a great little cafe on Warren Street that did a roast dinner in a half baguette.

Meat, potatoes, veg, stuffing and gravy. It was unhealthily awesome!!

JumpyLiz · 08/10/2019 16:46

Le Swine bacon and duck egg with bacon butter, mushroom ketchup on a milk roll is pretty good the morning after.

But the best sandwich for me is the Boxing Day Butty.

GrimDamnFanjo · 08/10/2019 16:46

Fresh crab on brown from a van in Sheringham.

Johnsonsfiat · 08/10/2019 16:46

From one of the Sandwich shops off the market in Ortigia, Sicily.
At home, I like m&s oaty bread with lots of butter, thin smear of marmite and thick smooth peanut butter

onlyhereforthefood · 08/10/2019 16:52

Fresh white doorstop bread, still warm roasted vegetables and freshly made hummus.
Nothing since has ever come close.

cantfindname · 08/10/2019 16:57

Waitrose used to do a scrambled egg and smoked salmon sandwich. The filling was divine but the bread was even better. Never seen it anywhere other than in a ready made sandwich it was full of poppy seeds and had a unique taste.

elephantoverthehill · 08/10/2019 16:58

Crispy bacon, stilton and avocado baguette from the sandwich shop in Cowes.

MyCatIsThickAsMince · 08/10/2019 16:59

God I love sandwiches.

The best is one my DH makes for me (embarrassingly we call it "Special Sandwich" Blush) and I'm not allowed to know the exact ingredients. It involves a big round crusty loaf cut in half, and filled with prosciutto, mozzarella, basil, other salad stuff then sliced into wedges like serving a cake, and it is the best food ever. I think it was originally in a good magazine and had a proper name, but it has evolved over the years in our house.

Funnily enough I'm poorly at the moment and just today he promised when I'm better he will make me Special Sandwich. Can not wait.

Reythemamajedi · 08/10/2019 17:00

Panini 96 from Madeira Star in Kennington, beef, fried onion, roasted peppers and cheese.

weegiemum · 08/10/2019 17:01

Mine was when I was pregnant with ds (who is now 17).

I went into the kitchen looking for food and just grabbed what I fancied. It turned out to be mayo and cold baked beans on malted brown bread.

Dh caught me eating it and was HmmShock.

Very partial to a fish finger sandwich. If I'm feeling naughty, a fish fingef and potato waffle sandwich!!

BoswellsBollocks · 08/10/2019 17:07

M & S used to do a gorgeous tuna and red onion mayonnaise with salad on tomato bread back in the late 90s. I wish they still did it.

Last Christmas Dh and I had a lovely leftover sandwich of chicken, stuffing and beetroot and red onion chutney on fluffy white bread rolls in front of the telly once the kids were in bed. Bliss.

Realitea · 08/10/2019 17:07

Mine was a goats cheese and apricot chutney toastie. God it was wonderful. I might get it again this week as a treat.

Butterbeeeen · 08/10/2019 17:08

A ham and cheese baguette I had in France on a school trip when I was 14. Iv never had one that's even come close since.

mbosnz · 08/10/2019 17:09

I love doing this one after a roast chicken.

Roast chicken, roast sweet potato, tomato, cucumber, lettuce, and dressing.

Oh, and after roast lamb - roast lamb, roast sweet potato, lettuce, red onion, salt & pepper, mint jelly and dressing.

Janaih · 08/10/2019 17:10

an egg mayo bagel from brick lane. do bagels count as sandwiches?

rosegoldwatcher · 08/10/2019 17:18

A sandwich shop/cafe, in Milton Keynes Shopping Centre - tuna mayonnaise, avocado and salad on granary. I have tried hard since to reproduce this but have never quite got it right. Sadly, the cafe is no more!
Best one from my kitchen is grated cheese, grated carrot, aioli and lime pickle.
