Mine was egg and crab purchased in an Italian bar. Closely followed by prawns in dill mayonnaise that Pret sold years ago.

You?

I've just remembered a tuna and tomato baguette I was made whilst on a road trip with a French family in about 1997. It was simple yet perfect.

Grilled veggies with pesto mayo from whole foods in the USA (served hot) alas they stopped selling in the intervening years from when I lived there to visiting ... I was looking forward to one, but I did have an excellent rueban last year there

Years ago Booths used to do a veggie breakfast pre packed sandwich it was divine, they stopped selling it and I was gutted.

RedElephants · 08/10/2019 17:30

Egg mayonnaise and prawn seeded roll, from the bloke that had a sandwich round in our office block..
To die for especially with Skips....Wink

HoldMyLobster · 08/10/2019 17:31

Ready for the disgust here......... Chichen and mushroom pot noodle, cheese slice and dorito sandwich!!! Complete mouthgasm

I feel like you should win some sort of prize for this.

My favourite homemade one is feta, sundried tomato, houmous (ideally lemon and coriander or sweet chilli) and crispy smoked bacon on lightly toasted farmhouse wholemeal bread. Goes with all manner of crisps on the side if you're a salty snack fiend like me.

Gingerkittykat · 08/10/2019 17:37

You can't beat an egg mayo sandwich on pappy white bread.

Not quite a sandwich but a wrap I used to buy in a sandwich shop in Glasgow which was basically a veggie pizza inside with a smear of tomato sauce, loads of veg like onion and peppers and mushrooms and mozarella and toasted.

Coffeelady99 · 08/10/2019 17:39

Fresh crisp baguette, lots of butter, cold roast chicken and a bit of iceberg lettuce. Was my go to lunch from the local bakers circa 1996.

Woodlandwitch · 08/10/2019 17:39

There’s a sandwich bar i used to go to which makes two amazing sandwiches.

My favourite was called chicky-pig - it had slices of roast chicken, homemade coleslaw, and crispy bacon bits.
Was divine

Shock @Lolly34h cheese cucumber onion and salad cream is my favourite home made sandwich!!. I've never met anyone else who eats it Grin

sockittome123 · 08/10/2019 17:41

A cheese and ready salted crisp sandwich on tiger bread that I made at my relative's house, a couple of weeks before he suddenly had to go into a home. We thought he was getting better, and that sandwich is associated with those feelings of hope for me.

Not quite what you were asking for but... Grin

longtompot · 08/10/2019 17:41

Either a Christmas dinner sandwich with all the leftovers on gravy covered bread

or

M&S did a brie and cranberry on malted bread. Really simple but just delicious.

WellTidy · 08/10/2019 17:41

I love a salt and vinegar crisps sandwich on sliced white bread with salted butter. Can’t fault it.

MashedSpud · 08/10/2019 17:42

Proper chippy chips (not disgusting chicken shop frozen rubbish) but made from fresh potatoes chips on white buttered bread.

WutheringShites86 · 08/10/2019 17:43

Ooh if we're getting onto crisp butties, I always have dairylea in mine. Controversially, can also swap crisps for mini cheddars.

Marylou2 · 08/10/2019 17:45

Grilled Roquefort, pear, walnut and black honey in Manchester. Absolutely huge. The sort of sandwich you have to dislocate your jaw to eat 😃

imundecided · 08/10/2019 17:46

I had a mozzarella, tomato and pesto sandwich from a little street stall in Germany, I still think about it now. I don't know how they made it soo nice, I've tried to recreate it but it never tastes as good as the one I got there

laikalooo · 08/10/2019 17:47

There’s a great sandwich shop in Edinburgh called Bobby’s - a chicken, salad, peanut butter and chilli sauce ciabatta. Life changing!

StormOfSekhmet · 08/10/2019 17:47

Marmite and cheese

UrsulaPandress · 08/10/2019 17:54

Ham, cheese and slaw eaten lying on the harbour wall in Hydra.

Elzbells · 08/10/2019 18:01

My favourite is tuna, sweetcorn and mayo layered with hot chips straight from the oven and a sprinkle of grated cheese.

Served in a home bake warm baguette with plenty of butter and salt.

Pinkkahori · 08/10/2019 18:03

A cafe in the city where i was a student did an amazing crusty roll with lovely strong cheddar and cucumber pickle. I still daydream of it fondly.

RuffleCrow · 08/10/2019 18:04

I'm now thinking of famous sandwiches in popular culture. How about Homer's 12 ft sub or whatever it was, that ended up purple with mushrooms growing on it but was somehow still delicious?

Or Ross's nervous breakdown inducing Turkey sandwich with moistmaker?

JustaScratcj · 08/10/2019 18:05

It was in Brixton and it was toasted bread with some kind of emmental type cheese with gerkins and a tangy creamy dressing. It was my go to hangover cure.

ThomasRichard · 08/10/2019 18:05

Tesco’s caramelised onion chutney, beef and Stilton sandwich before they decided to make the beef rare.

And the Chinese chicken sub from a little sandwich shop in Southwick I had about 14 years ago.
