Mine was egg and crab purchased in an Italian bar. Closely followed by prawns in dill mayonnaise that Pret sold years ago.

You?

Just the other day I had a chicken and stuffing sandwich from Tesco that I was really sorry to see end.

golddustwomen · 08/10/2019 19:37

I had never heard of a Rueben sandwich before this thread. After a quick google my plan for this weekend is to go find somewhere that sells one.
Any recommendations in the Birmingham area ???!!!!

golddustwomen · 08/10/2019 19:38

Or do I have to go to America Sad

LOALM · 08/10/2019 19:38

I had the most glorious sandwich after giving birth to my DS. Just a basic cheese sandwich - strong cheddar, butter and soft white bread. It was so simple but SO GOOD!

Crystal87 · 08/10/2019 19:39

I used to work in Greggs and the sandwich range was so much better than it is now. I miss the Chargrill chicken ovalbite the way they used to do it and the soft baguettes.

IsabelleSE19 · 08/10/2019 19:41

The Court Inn in Durham used to do eggy bread sandwiches - my favourite was the Coq au brie, which had chicken, bacon and brie, and the most amazing chips, mushrooms and onion rings on the side. I still think about those bad boys 20 years later.

Simonsaysitschristmas · 08/10/2019 19:46

A sandwich shop near work does the best ham salad sandwiches ever. Crusty roll, butter, ham, lettuce, tomato, white onion. It is so so simple but I have never been able to make it as good as they do Blush

Leftielefterson · 08/10/2019 19:47

I think a Reuben in Miami - it was so good.

Chinese chicken with iceberg lettuce and tomatoes.

Never managed to recreate it.

weebarra · 08/10/2019 19:59

A tuna crunch baguette from a deli in Broughton Street in Edinburgh called Mediterraneo. Long gone now but I worked round the corner and had one every day.

IsabelleSE19 · 08/10/2019 20:03

Ooh, I remembered another one - there used to be a Vietnamese cafe in Crystal Palace that did amazing banh mi - also now no more.

Why are so many of these sandwiches now unattainable? It must be part of their allure.

BlueChangeling · 08/10/2019 20:13

Anytime I have an egg and onion sandwich, it's the lunch I treat myself to when I've a day's annual leave and all I have to do is laze about the house all day.

Also what my husband and I call 'the sandwich'. Steak on ciabatta topped with rocket, mushrooms and red onion. He made it for me years ago when he started learning to cook and it tastes delish but also brings back so many memories.

MyCatIsThickAsMince · 08/10/2019 20:16

SDTG it does look like Muffaletta! It will always be called DH's Special Sandwich though Grin

onemorecakeplease · 08/10/2019 20:24

Meatball sub with cheese! Oh it's lush

PralineCookie · 08/10/2019 20:27

A few weeks ago I had a Bahn Mi on white bloomer from Piece in Glasgow. It was so good I have seriously considered the 600 mile round trip to get another one.

I'm in Glasgow. I'll definitely have to try this. I'd send you one in the post if I could.

TidaQuel · 08/10/2019 20:30

I still dream of a veggie club sandwich from a hotel bar in Mumbai many years ago.

AudTheDeepMinded · 08/10/2019 20:33

There used to be a sandwich shop on West St in Sheffield called 'Lunch Stop'. I had a tuna mayo and black olives with salad ciabatta for lunch every weekday for months. I seriously considered not moving to a new job to keep having them! Also M and S used to do a Tuna Melt sandwich that had a layer of saucy and cheese on the outside on one side. Bastards discontinued it.

VioletCharlotte · 08/10/2019 20:41

Mine was a baguette with cheese and tomato topped with olive oil. I bought it after a heavy night's clubbing in Ibiza in the mid 90's. I can still taste it now!

Wallabyone · 08/10/2019 20:49

This thread has made me want to abandon my salmon dinner and make a sandwich instead!
I adore sandwiches, and have eaten too many to choose a fave. BUT, I love grilled halloumi, grilled lountza (a type of Cypriot ham) with fresh sliced tomorrow, in a sesame seeded big roll, with mayonnaise. It's the best!

StCharlotte · 08/10/2019 20:53

The warm egg mayo from the teashop near where I used to work which is run by deaf people, one of who cannot read. Ordering could be tricky.

I also used to regularly enjoy a Pret baguette eith egg mayo and crispy bacon. Asked where they were one day and they denied ever having done them! I'D HAD ONE THE DAY BEFORE FFS!!

MrsGrindah · 08/10/2019 20:55

A tuna salad sandwich from a shop that’s sadly no longer there on Santa Monica Boulevard Promenade...sooo delicious. But one year I went and they misheard and I got a chicken salad instead... It was so gorgeous I was half way through before I realised...

MrsGrindah · 08/10/2019 20:57

Aud I’m going to West Street in Sheffield this week!

Oh I loved a prawn oval bite and a cheese savoury big softee on brown! Also the brown bloomers with New Orleans chicken or chicken and mango

Eatingjamwithtwospoons · 08/10/2019 21:02

Ciabatta with humous, peppers, olives, grape, rocket and cheese

On a random weekend away in Scotland.

It was amazing. Olives and grapes belong with humous. And I didn't even know!
