Mine was egg and crab purchased in an Italian bar. Closely followed by prawns in dill mayonnaise that Pret sold years ago.

You?

An amazing goats cheese, courgette crusty bread thing with a honey balsamic dressing from Amsterdam

enjoyingscience · 08/10/2019 18:10

Veggie delight subway on hearty Italian with ranch dressing. All the salad. It’s basicaly just a salad sandwich but it feels incredibly unhealthy, but amazing.

A homemade salad sandwich is also my best hangover food.

Roast beef with gravy
Cheese
Roast pots
Yorkshire pudding sandwich
U can also put a gravy dropped slice of bread in the middle
And all needs to be served warm

Rachelover60 · 08/10/2019 18:14

Egg mayonnaise and cress, on brown or white

Cheese ploughmans on granary, bought in co-op and couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards.

I have simple tastes.

Buyitinbamboo · 08/10/2019 18:15

There's a sandwich bar in the canteen where I used to work. The ingredients weren't special. Just chicken, mayo and sundried tomatoes but my god it was amazing. You need a key card to get in the building, otherwise I would probably go back daily

A steak-frites panini in the south of France. Steak, chips, emmental and butter in a panini severs piping hot. Amazing and now I want one.

Gastropod · 08/10/2019 18:29

Ciabatta with buttery sautéed leeks and Fourme d'Ambert blue cheese, lightly toasted till the cheese was just melting.
Sounds bonkers but was heavenly.

From an Italian deli that used to be on the High Street in Edinburgh. A lovely lemony, creamy chicken and bacon on an Italian roll. Was just thinking about this recently When I wandered into Valvona and Corolla which used to do good rolls too. Walked in, looked at some insanely-priced sandwiches and left. I was the only person in the shop.

A chicken gyros from our local Greek restaurant the other week. Absolutely gorgeous.

When I was 17 on holiday in Kos with my friends, the hotel was run by a family. The mum used to make the best tuna baguettes, I’ve no idea what she put in them but they were just incredible. They seemed to get rid of the monster hangovers too.

LoafEater · 08/10/2019 18:43

M&S used to do a tuna mayo sandwich with red onion on seedy bread. Although this was 20 years ago,I can still remember the day I went in to find they had stopped doing it, it was that traumatic.

Fave now is the boxing day buttie. I wanted to eat out last xmas day , but the fam objected as it would mean no BDB ingredients in the house!

MsRinky · 08/10/2019 18:46

A few weeks ago I had a Bahn Mi on white bloomer from Piece in Glasgow. It was so good I have seriously considered the 600 mile round trip to get another one.

GooodMythicalMorning · 08/10/2019 18:53

Has to be fried egg on a baguette with butter and ketchup. mmm the best.

pallisers · 08/10/2019 18:53

The egg salad sandwiches my mum used to make when her friends came over - cut into quarters with lettuce, onion, salad cream.

A shop back home in the 1990s used to make a tuna salad with cucumber and apple on a soft baguette. We'd get them and put taytos in as well - lovely.

I make Delia Smith's croque monsieur sometimes complete with melted butter and grated parmesan on the outside. It is lovely.

Catforaheadrest · 08/10/2019 19:10

It happened today!!!

From a place called Coffee No 1, a veggie burrito (I know, I know, not a sandwich. But it was pre-prepared and sold cold)

It made me make noises!!

P.s I’m NOT vegetarian

user1497207191 · 08/10/2019 19:11

Before they stopped doing them, I used to love M&S Ham & Cheese Coleslaw, but we're going back 30 years!

itsme · 08/10/2019 19:17

Avocado, chicken, brie and cranberry sauce on crusty white bread xxx

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/10/2019 19:21

@MyCatIsThickAsMince - I saw a sandwich that sounds like your dh’s Special Sandwich being made on some cookery programme, ages ago. If I remember correctly, it was called a Muffaletta.

I’ve remembered another old favourite - sliced tomatoes and Heinz sandwich spread.

luckygreeneyes · 08/10/2019 19:24

Boxing Day sandwich

Basically a panini with ALL the Christmas leftovers inside and toasted and some coleslaw

I’m salivating just thinking about it

SalamanderOnHoliday · 08/10/2019 19:24

M&S ham and cheese coleslaw...that just transported me right back! Treat as a student.

Hubcapdiamondstarhalo · 08/10/2019 19:24

From my much younger days - fresh crusty well buttered bread, with a couple of birds eye beef burgers, smash instant mashed potato and ketchup. Blush am know to still eat it occasionally

Still a favourite now is roast beef or prawns, with mayo, thinly sliced onion, and tomato on fresh white bread - has to be white to be right up there for me. Also very partial to a paté, coleslaw and tomato sandwich.

Most memorable was a Reuben in the basement food concourse of Grand Central Station - I never knew before that what proper corned beef was. Heaven on a plate.

PickAChew · 08/10/2019 19:28

I'm not a huge sandwich fan but I made one with peanut butter (the pure peanut stuff) and beetroot (not the vinegary stuff), with a sprinkle of salt and pepper on multigrain bread, last week, and it was bloody delicious.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 08/10/2019 19:30

M&S in the old days their chicken tikka sandwich was just fabulous. Before it started tasting, 'chalky.'

DoctorTwo · 08/10/2019 19:31

Grilled mature cheddar with fried mushrooms with brown sauce on buttered white bread from a little cafe on Walsall Road Brownhills. It's been 20 years since I had one and the memory of it still makes my mouth water.

iklboo · 08/10/2019 19:33

Oh. Favourite homemade one:

Pastrami
Turkey slices
Emmental cheese
French's yellow mustard
Mayonnaise
Sliced gherkins

In a sandwich toaster until crispy.
