Mine was egg and crab purchased in an Italian bar. Closely followed by prawns in dill mayonnaise that Pret sold years ago.

You?

A lamb and gravy sandwich in a town outside Melbourne. No idea why I ordered it. I'm not a massive lamb fan, but I still drool when I think of it years later. It was majestic.

Husband makes a great beef, mustard and cheddar toastie too. Yum

AudNothing exciting- going to the jobcentre!

AudTheDeepMinded · 09/10/2019 11:42

Ah @MrsGrindah, that's the one in 'The Full Monty' isn't it? I signed on there once, I really, really wanted to start dancing in the queue! Hope it goes well.

MrsGrindah · 09/10/2019 15:31

It is! I’m not going as a customer though luckily, it’s through work. But I will still be tempted to do the dance!

HearMeSnore · 09/10/2019 16:02

M&S used to do a lovely one that had chicken in a lemony yogurt dressing with watercress salad. It was a godsend for someone like me who can't bear mayonnaise.

M&S always stops making my favourite things Sad

My 26th December sandwich. Turkey, ham, stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayo on whole meal bread. Sometimes with coleslaw added sometimes with mashed cauliflower cheese!

Ludos · 09/10/2019 16:07

Heston's salt beef pretzel sub from Waitrose. With a full fat coke, ultimate hangover cure!

BoswellsBollocks · 09/10/2019 16:07

There’s a toastie place opened up near me that does an amazing cheddar, Brie and onion chutney toastie. It’s incredible and fills me up for about 3 days.

caperplips · 09/10/2019 16:38

Favourite homemade: 26th December breakfast sandwich made by DH and brought to me in bed with coffee. Fresh white bread (frozen in advance and defrosted just for this purpose!), real butter, slices of turkey breast with plenty of salt, sage and onion stuffing, cranberry sauce. My favourite dish of Christmas!

Years and years ago there was a fabulous swedish sandwich shop right across from where I worked and I regularly had a roast beef and creamed beetroot sandwich on brown bread - I LOVED them and still think of them very fondly 20 years later.

On honeymoon in rural northern California we stopped in a tiny town which had only a few shops and a small supermarket, we stopped to get water / drinks in the supermarket and I spied it had a really gorgeous deli section. We were peckish, and despite having dinner plans for later that evening, we ordered 2 sandwiches and took them back to our hotel. I swear they were like Scooby Do sandwiches they were piled so high with fillings. I had a turkey salad and it was without doubt THE best sandwich I have ever eaten. I ate it all as I just couldn't stop and I ruined the fancy dinner for myself as I just wasn't hungry. But I didn't care! I think about that sandwich a LOT and have never come close to anything as delicious since in a sandwich...

Nat6999 · 09/10/2019 19:43

We used to go to an amazing independent deli cafe near where our caravan was based at Newark on Trent, they did what was called a Parisian sandwich. Onion marmalade with sliced fresh tomatoes & buffalo mozzarella on malted Danish bread. It was gorgeous, I have tried to recreate it at home but have never managed to get it quite right.

theluckiest · 09/10/2019 19:50

I don't usually eat sandwiches so the biggest treat over Christmas is the sandwich I eat on Boxing Day..

Glazed ham & cheese toastie with chutney. Food of heaven.

I look forward to that sandwich more than Christmas dinner.

Pinkarsedfly · 09/10/2019 20:05

Sandwich with everything from Miam Miam Chez Alain in the Marche des Enfants Rouges in Le Marais, Paris.

You queue for ages in the covered food market for a griddled sandwich with EVERYTHING. It’s beyond delicious, and you won’t need to eat for 48 hours.

I worked at this place in London for two weeks where they did a bacon and turkey sandwich/baguette/jacket potato. It was quite simply turkey and bacon mixed with mayo and cranberry sauce. For the life of me I be never been able to re-create it!

Accountant222 · 09/10/2019 20:41

Small whole grain crunchy roll, potted meat, mustard and cucumber

MrsPnut · 10/10/2019 07:42

I had to make myself a sandwich for dinner last night after reading this thread. I had brie, bacon and cranberry sauce in a panini.

BishopFrownofStThigh · 10/10/2019 07:48
