Ok... this has freaked me out and I'm pretty chilled

(NC as I’ve text about this to a few people who haven’t replied yet)

I woke up about twenty min ago, funny feeling and went to check locks downstairs for reassurance (all secure).

There is a note on the kitchen sideboard, lined notebook paper and light blue ball point in blocky neat handwriting. It says:

‘This is your house Kathleen. You live here. David has the front bedroom and your bedroom is at the back. This is your house Kathleen and you can look at the garden.’

Really tidy kitchen, in the middle of an empty side. I went to bed last. Obv I’m not called Kathleen or anything similar and I don’t recognise the handwriting or even the pen ink.

Maybe this will be easier to grasp or solve in the morning? But right now I’m a bit 😳 and unable to sleep...

I will upload the note when I’m on a device to take a picture in the morning. I’m back in bed with ds who’s chesty and sleeping badly.

I’m totally safe, 4 sleeping kids and DH. House secure and v small so no chance of a stranger here or anything at all dangerous. Couldn’t hide a cat here, modern, small...

I guess there’ll be a simple answer in the morning, my initial tired reaction was to freak out with woo and a racing mind!!!

I will update in the am, but I’m shattered and prob will post early am with an update. Sorry I know it’s annoying when posters disappear, but I’m up really early, I’ve calmed down and I’m not in a woo half asleep panic now. Ds has been up and down with a cough and I’m strung out and tired.

It's either been written by someone you love with or it's been written by an intruder. Do you live with anyone else?

Clovko · 29/08/2019 00:41

Me, 4 kids and DH. Seem to be solidly asleep and usually do but I guess yes the answer lies there. My half asleep head was so determined they are asleep/ never wake... but Logic says they did

X post. If it can't be your family and it wasn't there when you went to bed then it was an intruder. Call the police

Someone is playing a mean joke!
Just pop a bowl of old school gunge over all doorways . I would snuggle down with my kids for the night!

Igletpiglet · 29/08/2019 00:54

I reckon your other half found it from previous residents and decided to put it out for discussion in the morning.

howwudufeel · 29/08/2019 00:55

Having a bowl of ‘old school gunge’ readily available in the house is weirder than the note...Grin

GibbonLover · 29/08/2019 00:57

Has anyone in the house had a book from school, the library or even a charity/second hand shop recently? Has anyone lent or given you a book? If so, the note could have been left in between the pages by a previous reader. I buy CS books often and have found a few notes/shopping lists over the years.

FlamedToACrisp · 29/08/2019 00:57

Could a previous owner of your house (possibly now with dementia) still have retained a key?

I don't think this is a joke. Very strange.

FlamedToACrisp · 29/08/2019 00:59

Also very odd not to have a biro in the house with 4 kids - do you all use quill pens, or what?

GibbonLover · 29/08/2019 01:00

Oh, and as for the funny feeling, given that you are sharing a bed with an ill child, you might well be coming down with something.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 29/08/2019 01:00

Could it have been left on top of a kitchen cupboard from before you moved in, and blown down today by a gust of air? Maybe when someone closed the kitchen door this evening?
Because that's as freaky AF and I can't think of another rational explanation.

Amcor · 29/08/2019 01:03

Did you ask your husband about it?

He may have found the notebook and put it there after you went to bed.

katewhinesalot · 29/08/2019 01:06

One of your kids homework pieces?

HennyPennyHorror · 29/08/2019 01:18

Were all windows secure?

EnidButton · 29/08/2019 01:19

Do you have carbon monoxide alarms or those sticker things?

There was a thread on Reddit years ago where some poor guy kept finding threatening notes in his house. Long story short, eventually someone on the thread asked suggested he might be suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning causing confusion and amnesia. Turns out he was writing the notes to himself.

Very long shot but this reminded me of that.

FractalChaos · 29/08/2019 01:19

Could it have fallen out of somewhere?

TimeForNewStart · 29/08/2019 01:22

Maybe you have dementia?

RubbingHimSourly · 29/08/2019 01:26

Could it be a previous owner who still has keys ?? I agree, it sounds like a.dementia note.......may be worth logging with 101.

Goodnightjude1 · 29/08/2019 01:28

That would freak me out too!!! Hope there’s a logical explanation in the morning OP!!

ParkheadParadise · 29/08/2019 01:36

Bloody hell, I wouldn't be going back to bed!

Maybe poor auld Kathleen is roaming about outside.

managedmis · 29/08/2019 01:45

Sure, you're not on a device that takes a pic

What are you on now, a friggin papyrus?

I'm going back to Mindhunter
