(NC as I’ve text about this to a few people who haven’t replied yet)

I woke up about twenty min ago, funny feeling and went to check locks downstairs for reassurance (all secure).

There is a note on the kitchen sideboard, lined notebook paper and light blue ball point in blocky neat handwriting. It says:

‘This is your house Kathleen. You live here. David has the front bedroom and your bedroom is at the back. This is your house Kathleen and you can look at the garden.’

Really tidy kitchen, in the middle of an empty side. I went to bed last. Obv I’m not called Kathleen or anything similar and I don’t recognise the handwriting or even the pen ink.

Maybe this will be easier to grasp or solve in the morning? But right now I’m a bit 😳 and unable to sleep...

I think most people are genuinely intrigued as to where it came from and are offering solutions for you as you posted ?

NoSauce · 29/08/2019 09:50

If you went to bed and you hadn’t noticed it on your tidy sideboard it HAS to be DH.
Nobody broke in and put it there!!

NoSauce · 29/08/2019 09:53

That writing is laughable 👻👻👻

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 29/08/2019 09:53

Glad you managed to find the source of the fishy smell at least Smile

tirednhungry247 · 29/08/2019 09:53

@Clovko seriously?!
You're that upset and offended that some people are struggling to see authenticity in this.
Your rational explanation will come when DH finishes work
We're waiting.

Nofunkingworriesmate · 29/08/2019 09:53

Do you or the kids have library books
in the house?
I’ve had all sorts of cards, shopping lists bank statements , bits if notes fall out of library books as people use them as book marks ??

BoxOfBabyCheeses · 29/08/2019 09:54

Hi OP, the note looks like my GM's hand writing, I think a lot of older people have shaky handwriting like this too. Just another saying it looks like a reminder for a dementia sufferer.

Princessfaffalot · 29/08/2019 09:55

Thanks @SoupDragon.

Looks like an older persons handwriting and like others say instructions for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

SoupDragon · 29/08/2019 09:56

You're that upset and offended that some people are struggling to see authenticity in this.

There is a big difference between "struggling" believe something and basically calling the OP a lying troll which is what people are actually doing.

DuggeesWoggle · 29/08/2019 09:56

I'm going with the library book explanation. I don't think you're making it up OP, love a good mystery thread like this. Hope a rational explanation comes your way soon!

theoriginalmadambee · 29/08/2019 09:57

Instead of feeling bullied @Clovko i would thank whoever put the note there and @WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps for maybe saving you from an electric fire.

What a good thing to know about fish smell 😀.

theoriginalmadambee · 29/08/2019 09:58

Sorry bold fail Wink

A bit of paper wouldn’t from a library wouldn’t have found itself in the middle of a sideboard on its own. I don’t understand the outburst from the OP at all. Of course people are going to ask questions. It’s a weird thing to happen. My bet is the H thinking he’s funny. The writing is clearly fake.

FuriousVexation · 29/08/2019 10:00

That is definitely a child's writing. The only possibility of someone with dementia writing it is if they were VERY early onset.

OP if you're confident that nobody could possibly have got access to the house then I'd be looking at either it fell out of a book, or your kids are playing a prank.

I'm not trying to scare you, but I thought our house was 100% secure, we always locked all doors etc. But we left a window open in our conservatory (I'm not posh, we were renting) it was just a top window iykwim, no more than 15 inches I would guess. We got burgled while we were sleeping upstairs. About 2 weeks after the burglary my teenage son forgot his keys and managed to get in the same window, and he's a pretty big lad. I no longer go to bed until every window and door has been checked.

OwnerofanAngryCat · 29/08/2019 10:01

I can see the photo now, note was originally folded, so would support theory came in in a library book. Also picked up with shopping very plausible.

NoSauce · 29/08/2019 10:01

A bit of paper wouldn’t fall from a library book!

Stravapalava · 29/08/2019 10:01

My 9 year old likes to play intricate complicated games and it looks like something she'd write as part of a game. It probably fell out of a bag / book etc. Have you spoken to your DC?

IdahoGreen · 29/08/2019 10:10

A bit of paper wouldn’t fall from a library book!

I don't know about your library books, but I've been a member of various libraries, including university libraries, since the late 1970s, and have had postcards, birthday cards, pages of letters -- all kinds of things presumably stuck in as bookmarks and forgotten about when the book is returned.

I've also definitely had a librarian assistant hand me back forgotten bookmarks when I've been returning something at the desk rather than self-service.

IdahoGreen · 29/08/2019 10:11

And it's perfectly possible that someone saw it on the floor, glanced at it, and put it on the sideboard out of the way, assuming it might be important to someone else.

dellacucina · 29/08/2019 10:11

Used to work in a library. Can confirm that slips of paper sometimes fall from library books.

KezzabellaB · 29/08/2019 10:11

I can understand why you'd want to leave the thread but there are always going to be people who think you're trolling or making it up, just ignore those messages.
I'm really interested to see how it's happened, personally. Did your DH not know anything about it, or your kids?
Don't leave. I want to find out what happens!! Smile

Apolloanddaphne · 29/08/2019 10:11

It isn't 'definitely" child's writing because it looks a lot like my dad's writing. He wasn't a hugely well educated man and he was someone who never needed to do much writing, but if he did it looked a lot like that.

It has been written to be understandable by Kathleen. I think possibly some elderly man has written for his wife who has dementia. possibly tucked it away somewhere and it has slipped out and someone in OPs family has picked it up.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 29/08/2019 10:13

Oh, here comes the faux outrage and the flounce. Textbook!

By the way, more than one individual person thinking it’s made up doesn’t equal ‘posting en masse’ and bullying . It just means they all, individually, don’t believe you.

BloodyTired · 29/08/2019 10:14

I wouldn't say it's child's handwriting, it looks a bit like my MILs. It must have fallen out of a book or been picked up from somewhere by one of your children maybe?
