So grey is on the way out, so polish your crystal balls, what colour schemes do we have to look forward to walls, flooring and furniture wise.

Do I win?

We just painted the master in lilac (Valspar Lilac Sprig) and the nursery in blue (Valspar Light Sleeper) - low risk and very pleasing

Grey and white is passé. I have felt that for ages and certainly do not entertain that much decor restriction. But some clearly cannot see beyond the Next interiors look, preferably with an emphasis on dull grey.

NoTheresa · 19/08/2019 14:25

Erm...just because your taste in decor is not grey and white, does not mean it is “tacky, gaudy and mismatched”. 🤣

This is cool and tasteful:

i quite like grey if its accented with other colours, blush, mustard, red, etc its grey on grey on grey that im not fond of.

Tarocchi · 19/08/2019 14:30

Grey is out, this colour's on the way back in .. blah di blah who gives a shit?

Who are the colour police who dictate what's in or out, what colours we should be painting our homes and so on? If people are so willing to sheepishly follow trends then more fool them.

I couldn't care less what's the 'en vogue' colour or not. I will paint my house whatever colours I, me, personally like and sod what anyone else thinks.

verticality · 19/08/2019 14:31

Lots and lots and lots of 70s inspired colour schemes in Elle Decoration lately majoring heavily on deep greeny blues and bluey greens as well as dusky pink. They photograph really well, but I'm not so sure about them in real life.

I really REALLY hate the new trend for chubby furniture. I actually have nightmare like those pieces.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 19/08/2019 14:39

I paint my walls whatever colour I choose .

I don't care if its "In" or "Out" personally

justasking111 · 19/08/2019 14:41

Have to ask what is chubby furniture?

I don't get the whole following fashion thing. Decorate your house the way YOU want to, not the way a bunch of strangers tell you.

riotlady · 19/08/2019 14:55

I have to admit I love grey, I find it really soothing on the eye. My living room has one charcoal wall and the rest white, not planning on changing it any time soon!

mrslaurenbrown · 19/08/2019 14:58

It seems to be dark colours. Whereas it was all white, grey and chrome before everything now seems to be going dark.

verticality · 19/08/2019 15:10

@justasking111 It is an abomination.

Warning: click with care. May turn you blind with horror.

Pah all you silly billies using insta or Mrs Hinch as inspo.

I use DIY on a Budget as my inspo I can't believe I'm saying that word like that and last year there was lots of Duluth Saphire Salute everywhere Grin

Ps I love grey so I'll remain happily untrendy from now on.

Teddybear45 · 19/08/2019 15:24

I still love grey.

matahairyy · 19/08/2019 15:29

My whole house is white. Easy

whattodowith · 19/08/2019 15:39

Navy is awful. I bought navy paint for our bedroom wall thinking it would look dreadfully chic, it looked like a crack den!

I love grey and don’t care much for fashion so it’s fine. We have a grey suite and I love it. Huge fan of white, mustard and duck egg blue too.

3luckystars · 19/08/2019 15:43

White

verticality · 19/08/2019 15:58

The dark, saturated colours photograph really well and really pop against accents. That's why you see them a lot on TV shows like Queer Eye - they really create a sense of theatre They don't look quite as good in real life daylight IMO.

I don't know if anyone else agrees, but it seems like interior design 'fashion' has fractured into a number of different movements, some of which are perennially fashionable (high end Scandi style with classic pieces of expensive Danish furniture) and others of which are more seasonal/trend-influenced (dusky pink and turquoise at the minute). Then you have your Kelly Hoppen 'hometel' style, which isn't so much about any actual form of taste as just plushness and a sort of high end global interchangeability.

Cocolapew · 19/08/2019 16:19

I have a dado rail Grin it's goes up my stairs. I paper the top but always painted the bottom to protect it from small grubby children.
They are now adults but I still keep it so I didn't have to buy too much wallpaper Blush

Cocolapew · 19/08/2019 16:23

My house in decorated in granny chic/Cath Kidston/ floral type explosion. I don't think anything matches, if I like the look of it I get it.
I like to stare at nice fabric, I find it soothing Hmm

Lyingonthesofainthedark · 19/08/2019 16:28

I don't like grey paint at all, but I am vaguely considering a very pale grey/silver sofa. The reason is, it's one of those light neutrals which goes with everything. I don't want a sofa which won't work with changing colour schemes over the years.
