So grey is on the way out, so polish your crystal balls, what colour schemes do we have to look forward to walls, flooring and furniture wise.

Grey has been over for years

When Wetherspoons feature it -it is over.

TiredOldTable · 19/08/2019 00:57

whatever was the point of the dado rail?

Not sure if this is a serious question but a high dado rail was there to hang mirrors, pictures and plates from it with metal moulding hooks.

I have loads of dado rails in my victorian house and lots of these- no nails

www.toolstation.com/moulding-hook/p23340?store=H9&utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=googleshoppingfeed&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvu-hgs-N5AIVGp7VCh1Mswq5EAYYAiABEgI2T_D_BwE

A low dado rail was there to prevent the wall from knocks from chair backs as chairs typically went around the edge of a room. A tougher textured paper would often be on the bottom part of a wall and a more expensive delicate on the part above where damage was less likely

Great, I've just ordered grey bedroom furniture and carpet! Not that I really care what's 'in' to be honest, if I like a colour I like it regardless.

motortroll · 19/08/2019 07:11

Navy!!!

motortroll · 19/08/2019 07:12

Sage green

Kubo · 19/08/2019 07:12

Ha, sponge effect. This is the wallpaper in our new house, I don’t think the previous owners had decorated since the 90s.

BogglesGoggles · 19/08/2019 07:14

Pale colours. Pastels or dusty colours like sage etc. Navy is over as well.

nachosTrafficante · 19/08/2019 07:14

Our new house has peach walls and orangey red printed borders at dado rail height. It would have been top banana 30 years ago....maybe I’ll leave it so it can come back in again.

BitOfANameChange · 19/08/2019 08:12

Many years ago I worked in a lab that was part of a fabric dyeing factory. I recall someone saying there were at least 6000 shades of black. It's probably true, it only took a tiny drop of colour to change one shade to another.

Spoonsmum · 19/08/2019 08:17

I think it’s weird to have an “in” colour for your home. Houses can be like cardboard cut outs of each other with no personality, a home surely over time reflects the lives of the people who live there (in my case very frayed around the edges, nothing matches, toys coming out of its ears .....) just weird that you’d want your home to look like anyone else’s. Just my opinion though

picklemepopcorn · 19/08/2019 08:24

Ha, I knew about the picture rail, didn't realise about the dado rail. Hmm. DH gets worried about furniture knocking walls. Perhaps that's the way to go.

User10fuckingmillion · 19/08/2019 08:30

I googled french navy

We did the bathroom and kitchen this year.

Grey and white, with very pale pink on the walls.

Downstairs the kitchen is navy, Tiling happening in September, probably white.

DH has suggested a palish yellow for the walls. I agree.

Only when it is safely on, will I point out that they are Leinster colours. Grin

Ligresa · 19/08/2019 08:56

French Navy has a mauve tinge. I'm about to paint my sitting riom Hicks Blue.

Ligresa · 19/08/2019 08:58

Or dusty lavender. Haven't decided yet. According to interior designer friend Navy is finished and pink is next.

FrangipaniBlue · 19/08/2019 10:48

Teal and Jade can fuck off - had them in my living room for 10 years, I need a change!!! Grin

FrangipaniBlue · 19/08/2019 10:51

I'm liking the idea of navy with peacocks and plums though!

CassianAndor · 19/08/2019 10:51

Grey is awful, always was. Never understood the appeal and why people thought they were being original with it I can't think.

Teal is awful unless your rooms are ginormous. No wonder British developers can get away with building houses like rabbit hutches when people seem determined to make the rooms look smaller than they are!

soulrunner · 19/08/2019 10:57

God, I am super boring. I just paint everywhere white. I find it really hard to ‘visualise’ when dealing with interiors so play it safe.

MitziK · 19/08/2019 11:05

Bugger. I'm nearly in fashion again.

(sage green hall, stairs and landing, dark blue living room, grey blue bedroom, teal kitchen, cocoa and white bathroom.)

anyginplease · 19/08/2019 11:06

Please blue I've been trying to find bedroom accessories for ages but everything is grey and pink

Lindormilk · 19/08/2019 12:56

Thank the lord! Sick of seeing grey and candles on shiny fucking trays on Instagram.

Get sone colour in your life FFS and stop copying other people. Make your own decisions about decor and dont try to be like everyone else.

I agree.

Personally, I still love grey as a neutral wall colour and also like neutral khakis/stone colours too for downstairs. I never liked the grey trend and don't follow house fashions.

StayInYourLaneBoy · 19/08/2019 13:27

I tend to avoid doing what everyone else does. To avoid the grey-out, I bought some Dulux Sapphire Salute about a year ago and haven't got round to using it yet... I'm ahead of my time (walls are currently safe green)
