So grey is on the way out, so polish your crystal balls, what colour schemes do we have to look forward to walls, flooring and furniture wise.

The dado rail had lincrusta beneath it and wallpaper above. My friend still has this in her old home. Ceilings are so much higher in old properties. So the dado, picture rail or plate rack were much admired.

I don't really care. I'm just about to do my kitchen, cream gloss doors, brown leather lazy boy recliner sofa, heavily influenced by the curtains which are also brown. Everywhere else is vaguely yellow with a green hint. Seriously couldn't care less what Instagram says.

By the Harry Potter studios (beyond, you wouldn't see them if you come from London/the station) are new estates. There are rows of houses with sage green doors, then rows with black doors. Identical. I'd hate to go home pissed in a taxi: 'Yeah, this one! No, that one! Oh fuck, I have no idea which one is mine!'

Purplecatshopaholic · 18/08/2019 21:25

Ever liked grey, beige, magnolia etc - utterly tedious. Don’t come to my house if you don’t like colour, lol

NeverSayFreelance · 18/08/2019 21:26

They can pry my grey colour scheme from my cold dead hands.

paints another wall Grin

I've removed (nasty fairly modern) panelling in the kitchen. To my horror, there is green painted anaglypta wallpaper underneath which will need steaming off. Above this is a delightful string of ivy, lovingly painted by hand using a template. Bonkers. I'm blaming the vendors, they'd done the same around the whole periphery of the kitchen, 20x10 of green trailing ivy.

Is has been dying for the last 10 years...
Just in the same way that duck egg palettes were never going to last.

But I anticipate a earth tone palette with plenty of light browns and muted burnt umber. If you want to know what comes next, look at clothes shops. The colours of the year are agreed every year by the Colour Group but take about 5 years to cascade to the high street

Primrose and blue

tilder · 18/08/2019 21:31

We used grey more than 20 years ago. Everyone was Hmm why the undercoat/concrete. Now it's everywhere and yes, looks like undercoat/concrete.

I'm quite happy with my patterns and bold colours. Love www.worldofwallpaper.com/versace-giungla-palm-leaves-wallpaper-green-and-cream-96240-5-10m-x-70cm.html

I don't understand why people do identikit houses either.

Honey spice? No thanks!

I vote for stiffkey blue as well, also like dark duck egg blue and rainbow!

Freefrops · 18/08/2019 21:39

Boris Johnson nipple pink.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 18/08/2019 21:39

Omg grey has been SO over for YONKS people!

marvellousnightforamooncup · 18/08/2019 21:45

I've just perused Pinterest and there are an alarming amount of spongy paint effects in an ombre style.

justasking111 · 18/08/2019 21:57

noooo that sounds like a nightmare to achieve...

So,brown, then.

BuzzyFly · 18/08/2019 22:07

When gloss comes back in, I shall be ready Grin

BuzzyFly · 18/08/2019 22:08

I must say I'm surprised at those suggesting navy as it's been quite hot for about 5yrs now - along with that bloody awful battleship grey

TumblingTumbleWeeds · 18/08/2019 22:09

Thank god it's over for grey. I have hated gray car interiors with black carpet & dash and even grey for the entire interior for travel trailers and camper vans. Hideous.

I've never been keen on treaty colour schemes. 15 years ago it was that pale dusty plum colour and I knew a woman who decorated her husbands entire office complex in it. No one could stop her. Carpet, blinds, paint, seat covers, toilet seats, all the surfaces in a pinky plum. I bet that looks really dated now.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 18/08/2019 22:24

The point of the dado rail is to protect the walls from furniture.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 18/08/2019 22:26

That spiced honey looks like nicotine stained walls.

FuckAPotNoodle · 18/08/2019 22:29

Oh, I thought you meant in hairstyles and thought I was fucked haha

Everythingmagnolia · 18/08/2019 22:43

Hopefully it means the end of those tacky grey crushed velvet sofas

StCharlotte · 18/08/2019 23:15

Bright colours like the Changing Rooms 1990s era

Ooh yes! The return of the navy blue bathroom with neon lime green accents Grin

(I would argue that grey is not neutral as it doesn't go with everything - including some other greys - there are too many variants.)
