@ILikeyourHairyHands I'm excited for you to try them! I only discovered them about 2 years ago when pregnant with DS2.

Also when I discovered Chinese "munchie" boxes...a pizza box right salt and chilli chips, fried rice, salt and chilli chicken, wantons, ribs, prawn toast and curry sauce...amazing! I sometimes make my own "slimming world" one and buy a pizza box from the local chippy Grin to serve it in! Nothing beats the real deal though!

SuzieQ10 · 16/08/2019 19:22

Oo I would love a nice Chinese dinner tonight. The local takeaway Chinese here are all pretty awful.
Very jealous.
I usually like the duck pancakes, chicken chow main and if hubby gets the sweet and sour chicken I have a few bites. Mmm.
Might go down to China Town this weekend - I knew I'd made minimal plans for a reason 😂

Maryann1975 · 16/08/2019 19:22

I’m so jealous. I would have loved a Chinese takeaway, but as we are skint after going on holiday at the start of the month, we are now using up stuff from the freezer. I’ve just had left over stew that was found at the bottom of the freezer with chips. It was not great Friday night food. I’m hoping the end of the month comes round really quickly.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/08/2019 19:23

Chinese takeaway chips are the best chips ever. Fact.

They're also still nice and go quite well with king prawn curry, beef and mushrooms, Singapore noodles or just about anything else from a Chinese takeaway.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is really missing out.

Ponchie · 16/08/2019 19:25

I really wish I didn't say no to a Chinese tonight to have a healthy homemade dinner Sad

Dreaming of salt and pepper chicken and beef in OK sauce

LoseLooseLucy · 16/08/2019 19:25

We've had a Chinese on the back of this thread 😬

crazycatgal · 16/08/2019 19:25

I'm starving reading this thread, was thinking about a Chinese earlier but didn't get one in the end.

I also agree that salt and pepper chips are the best!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 16/08/2019 19:26

I'm excited too Mammy, I've ordered hot and sour soup, rib combination (salt and pepper, barbecue and peking), salt and pepper chicken wings, spring rolls, chicken chowmein, roast pork with ginger and spring onions, singapore fried rice AND salt and pepper chips.

It's possible I over-ordered...

Spudlet · 16/08/2019 19:27

Prawn toast, chicken with cashew nuts, special fried rice and crispy duck pancakes incoming shortly here 👍👍👍

PivotPivotPivottt · 16/08/2019 19:27

Is a battered sausage actually nice

Lovely! You can buy them frozen from Aldi too Grin. My kids love them but I've only ever tried the chippy ones.

LoseLooseLucy · 16/08/2019 19:29

Yes, battered sausages are so good.

timeforawine · 16/08/2019 19:36

Ffs my friend with her fish and chips and you guys with your Chinese. I'm stuck with frozen pizza 😩
Local takeaway closed, Chinese doesn't deliver or take card payment and my husband has the car down south tonight so I can't go anywhere, plus toddler asleep in bed

Bridgeofpies · 16/08/2019 19:40

I’ve never ordered chips with Chinese food but I have seen it on Chinese take away menus so it’s not a shock that people have it! One local Chinese is also a fish and chip shop although that’s the exception hereabouts. Usually the two are separate. I’ve never been there because I always think they must not be great at either type of cooking (which I realise doesn’t really make sense). Maybe I will try them out!

In fact after reading up thread about salt and pepper chips I had a look on the menus of 3 local Chinese take aways and not one of them serves it. Which is disappointing because it sounds amazing!

ginyogarepeat · 16/08/2019 19:41

Oh my, the snobbery on a post about a Chinese food order Grin! Buck eejits as we say in Northern Ireland.

quitefranklyivehadenough · 16/08/2019 19:42

Sorry but I've just had McDs spicy nuggets. They are a game changer!!

Autumnchill · 16/08/2019 19:48

I definitely read it as de woking (Chinese frying pan!) 😁

Im ordering a chinese takeaway.
starfishcoffee · 16/08/2019 20:08

Me too Grin we're having:

Crispy duck with pancakes
Sesame chicken toast
Beansprouts chow mien
Lemon chicken
Sweet & sour chicken balls (DP loves them)

Angelinthenightx · 16/08/2019 20:20

House special curry my fave, would love one just now, cant tho as im pregnant & staying away from take aways. We always get chips too . Enjoy xx

TwistofFate · 16/08/2019 20:21

Salt & chilli chips are amazing! Chips with Chinese food is definitely a thing in Scotland. It's people who order omelette from a Chinese takeaway that I don't understand. Hmm

WinterfellsStarbucksConcession · 16/08/2019 20:29

I’m also northern and always have chips and rice with a Chinese takeout. I now live in the south and all southerners scoff at this, however we now have to order extra portions of chips if we’re sharing as the scoffers all seem to be quite happy to try the combo and one has even admitted to being converted.

ISpeakJive · 16/08/2019 20:32

I’ve been to China and seen many locals eating their rice, noodles and chips with their chopsticks Confused

WinterfellsStarbucksConcession · 16/08/2019 20:32

I’ve also just ordered we’re on:
Satay Chicken Skewers
Chicken and Oyster Sauce
Roast Pork and Beansprouts
1 x egg fried rice
1 x chips.

And a bottle of wine in the fridge to share. (We are definitely not a sniff of sherry at Christmas Mumsnetty types, mores the pity!)

ILikeyourHairyHands · 16/08/2019 20:58

I'm suitably stuffed and reporting from the other side, salt and pepper chips are...not bad.

They were pretty tasty due to the seasoning but, as I'd also ordered salt and pepper chicken wings and salt and pepper ribs, I have to say the ribs come out on top, the chips were quite moreish but don't travel particularly well I think, and, whilst I like a carb-based foodstuff as much as the next woman, I'm a dyed-in-the- wool carnivore really so given the otherwise identical treatment, I'm opting for the meaty version.

I do like the seasoning plus chopped peppers and chillies on all iterations though!

Ivysaurus · 16/08/2019 21:14

Spicy chips/chips and chilli the same and salt and pepper chips? I'm in Yorkshire and it's a necessity to order chips or salt and pepper chips with a Chinese 🤤 I love mushroom foo yung, or Chinese chicken curry. I really want Chinese now!
Also chipper is unknown here we called it chippy

MidnightMystery · 16/08/2019 21:19

Yes!!

We had the same,
CHIPS
Chicken balls
Sweet sour chicken
Crispy beef
Special fried rice
Chow mein
Prawn toast

Can't move ! Was a treat so went overboard and seriously Chinese chips with the sweet b sour sauce is just the best!
