Where do Londoners think 'the north' starts? Chips with Chinese is a thing in South Wales. My local Chinese does poppadoms too.

What's in the house special curry?

Flamingosnbears · 16/08/2019 17:46

You don't know what your missing!!! Order yourselves some with Salt and pepper chicken...

MummytoCSJH · 16/08/2019 17:47

I always have chips from the Chinese... salt and pepper though. Not to be rude but what the hell is a chipper?! Just never heard of it!

Bluntness100 · 16/08/2019 17:48

I don't think it's northern either. I think it's across the uk. I remember as a teenager getting chips and curry sauce from the local Chinese in Scotland . I'm now in West Sussex and they have been available here for years.

chocolaterain · 16/08/2019 17:49

I'm much more southern than London and we have chips from the Chinese! It's very common

AmIThough · 16/08/2019 17:49

I'm guessing 'chipper' is 'chippy'. Who on earth calls it a 'chipper'?!

Bluntness100 · 16/08/2019 17:49

Im not sure what a chipper is in this context either, normally to me it would mean the fish and chip shop.

MummytoCSJH · 16/08/2019 17:51

I've never seen burgers on the menu at any fish and chip shop Confused

Accountant222 · 16/08/2019 17:51

I must be very 'Northern' ffs some people ! I always have chips with the Chinese, I don't know how they cook them but they are far better than any others.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 16/08/2019 17:52

Didn't take long for the usual snobbery to start 🙄

AmIThough · 16/08/2019 17:52

@MummytoCSJH they have them on all the chip shop menus round here, but they're shite Grin

MyMelodie · 16/08/2019 17:53

Oh I absolutely love salt and chilli chips! I'm getting hungry now just thinking about them!

MoreOfADogPerson · 16/08/2019 17:53

Chipper = chippy in Ireland. It's one of the words I had to learn to code switch when I moved to the UK

Bluntness100 · 16/08/2019 17:53

Mummy, me neither, I've never seen burgers in a chip shop, hence why I'm a bit unsure about what a chipper is in this context.

Dumbledorker · 16/08/2019 17:54

I cant remember the last time I ordered a chinese and didnt have chips! Probably when I was on slimming world. So all of you who think it's weird then ... out of curiosity is there chips available on your menus ? When you have been to a chinese buffet restaurant have there been chips available ?

Atlasta · 16/08/2019 17:55

Chinese chips have their own special taste somehow.
I always order chips and and crispy seaweed to have with my sweet and sourSmile

Littlefluffycloudos · 16/08/2019 17:57

I’m in London and have never heard of chips with a Chinese. I mean it’s a different cuisine no?

MonstranceClock · 16/08/2019 17:57

Never mind chips, i'm shocked at the actual Chinese food from Chinese takeaways in England Grin

Offends my ancestors.

cookiechomper · 16/08/2019 18:00

Chips with Chinese has always been a thing where I'm from. All the chip shops do Chinese food, but my friend from Manchester says chippies and Chinese takeaways are separate, whereas here you can get Chinese food alongside the usual chippy items.

chipsychopsy · 16/08/2019 18:02

This thread is bonkers. While one may not choose to order chips with ones Chinese takeaway, but surely chips are sold in Chinese takeaways throughout the land (and across the sea- chips with Chinese here in Ireland).

MonstranceClock · 16/08/2019 18:03

Quite a few Chinese takeaways in Cornwall sell fish and chips.

SinglePringle · 16/08/2019 18:05

Chipper = Chippy (but to me, a ‘chipper’ is the machine that cuts up the chips. It’ll always be The Chippy to me). My local one does shite burgers.

I am old(ish). I’ve never had chips with or from the Chinese. I’ve never been to a Chinese Buffet.

I’ve also never had chips and curry sauce.

VenusStarr · 16/08/2019 18:06

We're having Singapore chow main, sweet and sour chicken balls, crispy beef and egg fried rice 😋

It is early for dinner, but am 5 and a half weeks pregnant and starving!

AmIThough · 16/08/2019 18:07

@SinglePringle definitely order chips next time you have a Chinese - you're missing out.

Chinese chips & Chinese curry are the best!

cricketmum84 · 16/08/2019 18:07

If you haven't had salt and chilli chips from the Chinese then you haven't lived.

Yes x a million!!

My local Chinese does a little tray of half rice. Half salt and pepper chips topped with your choice of sauce.

Now I'm drooling!
