Chinese was last night's tea and I was mightly narked off that I didn't get chips and curry like I normally do. Oh and Chipper = chip shop in Bristol.

LividLaughLove · 16/08/2019 18:32

I’ve been gluten free for three years and miss Chinese food the most.

Found a gf Chinese in Llandudno. It’s three hours away. Thinking of moving to Llandudno.

Princessfaffalot · 16/08/2019 18:33

I’m from oxford, live in London and always have chips with a Chinese!

onemorecakeplease · 16/08/2019 18:34

Oh my god chips with Chinese curry is the best thing ever!

Maybe it's a Scottish thing but Chinese chips are the business!

Enjoy op!

dustarr73 · 16/08/2019 18:37

Is chips with a Chinese a northern thing? It's not really done in London.

@Kpo58 No im Irish. And the spicy chips are fab.In fact everything is lovely.

And no im sharing [unfortunately] @Bluntness100

I’m in Bristol and all the Chinese takeaways do chips...not ‘northern’ at all

SinkGirl · 16/08/2019 18:42

All the chip shops do Chinese food, but my friend from Manchester says chippies and Chinese takeaways are separate, whereas here you can get Chinese food alongside the usual chippy items.

Your friend is fibbing. When I was growing up in Manchester, there were loads of Chinese chippies (chip shops run by Chinese families that had loads of Chinese stuff on the menu). They were the best, and probably explain why I need both rice and chips with my Chinese takeaway.

When I was pregnant, chips and curry sauce from the Chinese over the road was my only craving

PurpleDaisies · 16/08/2019 18:43

In Wales you can usually order half and half... half rice, half chips. Best of both worlds.

RedForShort · 16/08/2019 18:46

Bloodybanana: "It's not a Chinese with chips. Well to me it isn't anyway"
In all reality, the food from a Chinese takeaway isn't Chinese. So leaving out chips from an order doesn't make it more Chinese!!

There's not many take aways I actually like, which makes a Friday night a right pain! I have had chips made in a Chinese takeaway, they have quite a different taste to chipper chips. Mind you I'm not too found of chipper food either. (Only just came across a chipper that sold really good chipper chips!! A first in the 20 odd years I've lived in Dublin!!)

VanillaLatteAndCake · 16/08/2019 18:47

Yes to Chinese chips! We go for salt & pepper chips which I guess is the same as salt & chilli chips. God I want Chinese now!!

Vandree · 16/08/2019 18:48

4-in-1 and 3-in-1's are brilliant (irish)! Fried rice, chips and curry sauce or chicken balls, fried rice, chips and curry sauce all in a long tray and when you upend it on your plate you get an actual brick of food Smile . Also spice bags which have evolved to spice boxes, which are a pizza box filled with salt and chilli chips, with onions, pepper, battered chicken and usually have spring rolls/chickenwings/chickenballs and curry sauce as well included. Had one once and it was delicious while hot (and drunk) but not so much in the cold light of day. Really tempted to get a 3-in-1 with chickenballs and prawn toast for dinner to start our holidays with a bang

homemadecommunistrussia · 16/08/2019 18:48

I give up on Chinese takeaway, the veggie options are rarely veggie (as they have fish/oyster sauce) and my local one puts tons of chicken, prawns or pork in the meat dishes, but hardly any vegetables in the vegetable ones.Sad

PivotPivotPivottt · 16/08/2019 18:50

Battered sausage is ubiquitous in Blackpool Pivot

That's what I thought nopixelsfound, I just sort of took it for granted that battered sausage would be popular and that's what I would be servedGrinIt didn't even occur to me to ask for it granted as where I'm from it comes battered unless you ask otherwise. Lesson learned.

I also ordered Chinese from a takeaway in Fleetwood and it was fantastic. I couldn't believe the portion sizes and so cheap!

rainandshine52 · 16/08/2019 18:52

Duck in plum sauce, crispy beef in ok sauce, rice and noodles. Tonight's fayre.

MonstranceClock · 16/08/2019 18:58

Is a battered sausage actually nice?? Thats just 2 things I would never put together in a million years.

quitefranklyivehadenough · 16/08/2019 19:02

@Kpo58 it's a thing in Surrey

PorpentinaScamander · 16/08/2019 19:06

Now I fancy chinese. I think my chinese does chips but I prefer fried rice.
With a side of battered sausage.

In the South East for geographical relevance.

Powerplant · 16/08/2019 19:09

Mammyloveswine · 16/08/2019 19:10

Salt and pepper chips are LIFE

ILikeyourHairyHands · 16/08/2019 19:14

I'm ordering a Chinese now as a result of this thread, we've had guests for a week and I'm not cooking ever again tonight. I've never ordered the salt and pepper chips before but, in the intetests of experimentation, I've added them and shall report back.

cricketmum84 · 16/08/2019 19:15

I'm having the other half of my spicy veg chow mein from last nights Chinese!

Alas no chips tho 😢

CakeNinja · 16/08/2019 19:18

I’m SE and chips are definitely on the takeaway menu at our local Chinese.
Dp likes them, I have about 5 (you get a huge bag but I find them too filling and i want to stuff my face with all the many dishes we order so I just have a small amount of absolutely everything Grin ),
Between the 2 of us we order about 10 things but rarely have takeaway of any description because dp really enjoys cooking.
It’s my birthday soon and I always insist on a Chinese!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 16/08/2019 19:18
