I’ve known a Blessing (m) and a Precious (f) who were both lovely, and whose names I love.

I adore the name Constance, but had boys for my last two pregnancies. Pesky beasts, spoiling my plans!:o

Lwmommy · 12/08/2019 23:23

Ever since watching the film Willow as a child I've loved the name Elora, the babies name (Elora Danan), I also love Morgaine.

I teach in a girls school so come across lots of unusual girls names:
Precious has been mentioned a lot on this thread but in my school it is definitely not an uncommon name. I had 4 Preciouses in one class a couple of years ago. It was clearly the girls name of choice for West African families 13-18 years ago. I love it! I had a student last year who was just the most precious child and named Precious.
Some of my other favourites include:
Phyllis
Eunice
Faustina
Beulah
Hyacinth
Hilda
Cerise
Nuala (apparently this is an old lady name in Ireland but the teenaged one I knew totally rocked it).

Moondancer73 · 12/08/2019 23:30

@ISayWhatNow my ex had an aunt called Loveday, always thought it was incredibly pretty name.

Moondancer73 · 12/08/2019 23:32

I've come across a Gulliver and a Fagin - same family.

partysong · 12/08/2019 23:37

LOVE this thread.

If I was having another child he would totally be called Aristotle! That's a genius name that I completely missed from my list first time round

pallisers · 12/08/2019 23:44

I know people with the names:

Zipporah.
Genesis (not too fond of that one)
Chaney
Nilufar (I think this is common in iraq/iran but I just love it)
Cordiana
Bronte (not fond - it sound clunky tbh)
Constance - fab name
Basil

Nuala is the last name I'd use! So old lady.

Racingthorn · 12/08/2019 23:46

Friends of mine called their daughter Radigand. Loved it but no idea where it comes from or what it means.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 12/08/2019 23:56

I once knew a very striking young woman called Dallas. It really suited her. In fact her surname was equally unique and the combination was amazing, the coolest name I’ve ever heard! Grin I can’t say it here as it definitely would identity her.

Anynamewilldo2 · 13/08/2019 00:14

I find it so interesting - some of the names that people posted as unusual are really common in my culture and where I live. Ephraim is very common, as is Eliana, Dina, Tzipporah (also spelled zipporah), and there were a few others. Basically old Bible names. I only know one Hephtziba though! It's just interesting what one person will hardly see will be common elsewhere.
I like Sierra

Lochnessgiraffe · 13/08/2019 00:23

My dds names are not that unusual but never come up on 'bad&weird' names but I think they are beautiful
Gisele
Nataliya
So maybe I hit a good note of unusual but not weird?

IdaBWells · 13/08/2019 00:27

Dds best friend is Raven, she is 16.

Two young women I worked with:
Rainbow
Cameo

IdaBWells · 13/08/2019 00:28

I had a neighbor called Richenda and another called Vinka.

Tiggles · 13/08/2019 00:33

I know a young lad called Myrddin (pronounced Merthin) which is the original welsh version of Merlin. He is very into all the arthurian legends and it really suits him.

Redshoesandtheblues · 13/08/2019 01:12

Christmas Lily stardust Saturn Sky.

Redshoesandtheblues · 13/08/2019 01:13

Stardust should have had a capital S

Redshoesandtheblues · 13/08/2019 01:15

Bit out there at time, but she suits it!!

Redshoesandtheblues · 13/08/2019 01:19

Chrissy for short.

1forAll74 · 13/08/2019 01:44

I heard of someone the other week, who had named her son Aldi. I suppose it is better than Tesco though.
