I once knew a girl called Kerryn ,never known anyone else with the name, I think its pretty.

LadyPoldark · 12/08/2019 13:41

I went to school with a girl called Precious , I don't think it's all that unusual but I always loved it and thought she was really special because of her name!

LadyPoldark · 12/08/2019 13:41

And I've also never met another Precious

Merlin. Which he will be fine with as a toddler/small child but not so sure when he grows up.

SillyBillyBandy · 12/08/2019 14:03

Was just coming on to say I know an adult Merlin! He carries it marvellously!

BroomstickOfLove · 12/08/2019 14:09

I know a couple of Merlins, so it's probably not going to be that unusual when they grow up.

joystir59 · 12/08/2019 14:13

I went out with a boy called Valentine when I was a teenager, and I've liked it ever since. I have taught a couple of boys called Romeo.

BikeRunSki · 12/08/2019 14:17

I know an adult Merlin- he’s mid 40s- but I have known him for so long (since I was 12) that his name isn’t really remarkable to me anymore.

I once knew only one Noah - in his 20s now- and thought that was unusual, but then the Noah explosion of the 2010s happened!

SillyBillyBandy · 12/08/2019 14:20

Yes loads of Noah's!

We had a Valentine in my family and a Lucretia Shocknow that's a name!

My Aunty (now in her nineties) was named Pixie.

ghislaine · 12/08/2019 14:21

I like Zipporah. Never met one though.

Rosiered1 · 12/08/2019 14:25

Starla - girl name meaning is Star. Star

DirtyDennis · 12/08/2019 14:30

I do a lot of work in Africa and in some countries there is a trend where parents name their children English words that the like the sound of. Not English names but English words

I've previously worked with Colic, Saucer, and, weirdest of all, Potato.
I absolutely love these names because of the kind of "fuck it" attitude of the parents. They don't care that it's a non-name, it sounds nice and that's all that sounds Grin

Back home in the UK, my friend's daughter goes to school with an Aristotle (boy), an Aloysius (boy), a Seren (girl), and a Cariad (girl) which are all lovely.

Deadringer · 12/08/2019 14:31

I know of a boy called Bubbles.

Richlyfruited · 12/08/2019 14:33

I know a Merlin too and an Oberon! Also love Peregrine and Gilbert for boys (all remind me of favourite books as a child!)

I really love names that 'stand out' although I don't have a particularly unusual name myself so not sure if it would become a burden? Hmm

SK166 · 12/08/2019 14:42

We met a little girl called Ciel in the park the other day. French for ‘heaven’. Had a little brother called Herbie. They were so sweet!

My little one is Teodora. We call her Teo (TAY-oh) Smile

Bezalelle · 12/08/2019 14:45

Loveday is terrible! It sounds like some sort of Pride-related national day about sex awareness.

Helenluvsrob · 12/08/2019 14:49

There was an orson in the park. That’s a bit awesome

LilQueenie · 12/08/2019 14:53

I think its a lovely name. btw pride is not about sex awareness. Hmm

IAskTooManyQuestions · 12/08/2019 14:58

Ocean-Rose.

QuimReaper · 12/08/2019 14:59

I know a family with two boys called Zebedee and Diggory.

Bloodybridget · 12/08/2019 14:59

But there's Loveday Minette in The Little White Horse.

IAskTooManyQuestions · 12/08/2019 15:00

Loveday is a very old name, it's gorgous. There was a Loveday Beloved who went off to read Physics at Cambridge, 1947 on a school honours board. I wonder if she ever became famous, the name stuck with me.

IAskTooManyQuestions · 12/08/2019 15:01

Precious is a very common West African/West Indian name

MrsAmaretto · 12/08/2019 15:05

I love some of the names which are common here (Shetland) but which I hadn’t really been aware of until I moved here.

My favourites for boys are Magnus, Zander, Erland, Hansi, Hanson, Hakkon. For girls I love the name Vaila (named after an island here)
