Is it ok to have unpainted toenails?

Just that really, I'm wearing sandals today and feel a bit weird/ unattractive.

Normally have my toenails painted in the summer but didn't have time/ couldn't be bothered so far this year. Wondering if it's ok or really minging/ unattractive?

I'm not trying to attract anyone ;) Feet and nails are clean etc...

Also never wear nail polish on hands but seems different. Maybe because I don't like feet!

This whole thread is just mad. Why so much judgement on how other people look? I rarely wear makeup, no nail varnish and haven't had my hair cut in a year. Are hundreds of women horrified when I walk down the street? Looks like they are, or at least silently judging me for my lack of effort. It makes me sad. I don't judge those with lots of makeup, very groomed hair or painted nails - each to their own.

@newmobile 😱 Your poor colleagues! How vain are you, if this is something you consider worth making people feel small about...just rude!

MarthasGinYard · 28/07/2019 09:26

I'm not glam in the slightest

But I cannot stand my toenails bare

Have a pedi every 3 weeks

Like to have nice hooves

Unpainted toes look gross and i told the females this and they did say they would pay more attention and paint them before wearing sandals again.

Lol, sure they did GrinGrinGrin

What a stupid thread. Of course it's bloody okay to go without polish on your toenails. Sheesh.Hmm

Skyejuly · 28/07/2019 09:48

What's bad about unpainted toes? Am I missing something?

madcatladyforever · 28/07/2019 09:51

Meh, I have one missing toenail so if I paint them my foot looks ridiculous.

Notmydalek · 28/07/2019 10:31

This thread is so bloody depressing. I’m 58 and honestly thought ridiculous shit like this was dying the death. How sad that a significant number of women on this thread equate unpainted nails to not making an effort, being dirty, unprofessional or disgusting.

Pannalash · 28/07/2019 10:39

Crikey as my DS would say ‘get a life’ Grin

Mumsnet is like another world sometimes. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with bare nails and if someone doesn’t want to paint them that is absolutely fine and we shouldn’t pass judgement about it.

But it’s just ridiculous to deny the fact that many people find feet / painted toenails sexy- which many imply by saying it doesn’t matter / isn’t important etc. It’s okay to find things attractive and sexy and to want to be seen as pretty / sexy / etc. It’s part of what makes the world go round. Of course peoples ideas of what that is are vastly different but to many people painting their nails is part of that and that’s absolutely fine - and it’s fine to admit to doing it because you want to be perceived to have pretty feet!

Notmydalek · 28/07/2019 11:03

Fairylea I totally agree that it’s fine to paint your nails in order to feel/looks sexy. I think polished nails look lovely. It’s just the equation that those who choose not paint theirs are in some way just not trying or are seen as disgusting, dirty etc which I find so depressing.

ForalltheSaints · 28/07/2019 11:18

Of course it is OK.

This thread is this week's nomination for a first world problem!

feelingverylazytoday · 28/07/2019 12:05

I used to varnish mine, and even put glitter and sequins on sometimes. It always took ages to remove though, for some reason, so I stopped. Not wearing it hasn't altered my life in any way.
I don't wear make up or do any stuff that men don't do now, apart from shaving my legs and armpits and round the old bikini line when I go swimming, but then most men shave their faces, so it's pretty even.
No problem if other people want to do lots of beauty things but I really can't see myself ever doing anything like that again.

RedSheep73 · 28/07/2019 12:08

Entirely up to you. I don't like my toenails unpainted (I don't paint fingernails either), but I couldn't care less about anyone else's feet.

Chillijamntuna · 28/07/2019 13:32

I think it's pretty gross TBH (on me) I went for a shellac pedicure the other day and it's bringing me a lot of joy looking at my toes when I wear sandals, unlike pre pedicure.
