Is it ok to have unpainted toenails?

Just that really, I'm wearing sandals today and feel a bit weird/ unattractive.

Normally have my toenails painted in the summer but didn't have time/ couldn't be bothered so far this year. Wondering if it's ok or really minging/ unattractive?

I'm not trying to attract anyone ;) Feet and nails are clean etc...

Also never wear nail polish on hands but seems different. Maybe because I don't like feet!

I do think women should be groomed

I am ‘groomed’. I am clean, have clean, nicely cut hair, eat well and exercise, dress in well fitting clothes. I rarely paint my toe nails. Why does being groomed mean you have to paint things on to yourself?

Soola · 25/07/2019 13:23

I prefer a vibrant red or pink sometimes but usually sport a natural looking pale pinky nude colour as it just makes my feet look nicer.

I wouldn’t personally have unpainted toe nails in sandals but that’s me, you’re you and you paint or not paint your nails as you see fit.

Mavala Jasmin is my favourite for prettying up toes!

Why do you need painted toenails for yoga?

I suspect because you spend a lot of time staring at your feet when doing yoga. I have been known to paint my toenails with glittery polish just before starting a home yoga (i.e. just me and youtube) session.

Having said that I regularly most of the time go out without painting or preening any part of my body so clearly I think it's OK to leave the house without painted nails.

I never paint my nails- fingers or toes.

Me neither; I just don't like the way it looks. I've never even thought that it might be considered in some way unacceptable - good grief! Confused

(Never been kicked out of a yoga class for it, either! Grin)

It’s an odd idea though isn’t it? To add a paint to a bit of your body that’s essentially dead.

Like dying your hair. Or indeed wearing makeup since the top layer of your skin is dead as well

If you think you can improve slightly on what you have been given and it makes you feel good then what's the problem?
I have my eyebrows and eyelashes tinted every month. Because they are very fair and they disappear. I prefer to have eyebrows and eyelashes that are visible, but it's not important to anyone but me.

silverystream · 25/07/2019 13:35

It's only a problem when people are judgmental over other people's perfectly fine unpainted nails.

Strokethefurrywall · 25/07/2019 13:36

Ha, I live in the Caribbean and my feet are on show 365 days a year.

Don't wear nail varnish, don't even have a big toenail because of all the running I do.
Looks gross, but if there is any other thing that I could give less of a shit about, I struggle to find it.

I groom myself as and how I see fit, all other women should do the same. And that's the only "should" that applies.

Bluebuttercup · 25/07/2019 13:46

Thank you for replies, should have said in the op that this was lighthearted etc etc

I think, personally what happened for me is that since I hit my mid 30s I just generally started doing "less". Don't really dye my hair, minimal makeup and now lack of nail varnish.

Sometimes I ask myself who was I really doing the above grooming for? But yes I suppose it is the conditioning.

Also where I am based pretty much all women have painted toenails and I really do notice it!

I never paint my toenails. Ever. There's a damn good reason feet are on the opposite end of my body! I hate em.

hollieberrie · 25/07/2019 13:56

its fine! i never paint mine ever. i still feel very attractive Grin

Shodan · 25/07/2019 13:58

I paint my year round, and have done for many years, and in a wide variety of colours too.

I do it because I prefer them that way. Others don't. Either is perfectly fine.

Shodan · 25/07/2019 14:02

BTW- I once took a picture of my toenails in between paintings. Sent a text to my DP saying 'Fancy a nude pic?' On receipt of an eager affirmative, I sent him that.

I lolled at myself for hours Grin Grin He, apparently, was slightly disappointed.

HappyNOTdriving · 25/07/2019 14:23

If I can be arsed I will, if I can't I won't.

I don't give a shiny gold plated shit what anyone else does with their bodies!

In fact the only thing I care about with other people is that they are clean so I don't have to smell them or not want to be handed something from them and that their clothes are relatively clean so I again don't have to smell them either!
That though in my opinion is common courtesy when living in a confined space like a city in a small overpopulated country where people don't have much choice about being close to strangers as we all go about our day!

I really dislike seeing toe nails unpainted and on display in sandals. Was a topic of discussion lunch time at work and i was in the minority as mine are always painted. Unpainted toes look gross and i told the females this and they did say they would pay more attention and paint them before wearing sandals again.

Camomila · 25/07/2019 14:47

My DM (who does a lot of yoga) always has painted toenails in various shades of purple to match her yoga mat.

I maybe paint my toenails once a year if I'm wearing sandles to a wedding.

SoyDora · 25/07/2019 14:51

If you’d told me this in the workplace I’d just have looked at you like Hmm.
Do you have an issue with men who don’t paint their toe nails? Or is it only female toe nails that look ‘gross’?

Frith2013 · 25/07/2019 14:57

I wonder what they think of you.

TwistyTop · 25/07/2019 15:02

I live in the tropics so my toes are on display every day. I always have painted nails, but that's because I have a gross fungal nail infection and the sight of my bare toenails knocks me sick. If I didn't have that problem I wouldn't be as bothered.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 25/07/2019 15:03

Blimey. Rude & judgy much?

haverhill · 25/07/2019 15:09

Frith, are you real?

OP, I prefer my own toes painted but couldn’t care less about anyone else’s. Clean and trimmed is all that’s required for public decency.

Tableclothing · 25/07/2019 15:09

i told the females this and they did say they would pay more attention and paint them before wearing sandals again.

They were being sarcastic.

This has to be a joke. Is anyone really this openly judgy?

Just for you newmobile here are my "gross" unpainted nails in sandals today. I like them!

Is it ok to have unpainted toenails?
KnitterOfSocks · 25/07/2019 15:10

I never paint mine or my fingers either. I can't say it's ever crossed my mind that it is a necessary thing.

newmobile · 25/07/2019 15:11

Yes probably inappropriate of me to run out of the staff room shouting get those trotters away from me! I do stupid things sometimes although nails were painted from then onwards will apologise when i go back to work.
