Tiny things that are bloody marvellous

As an antidote to the irrational hatred thread Wink. I'll start.

Tins of Princes Tuna that are both drained, and have a funky pull lid (not metal) that made me kneel down and weep with joy.

@kshaw Are you in Newcastle, by any chance? I used to love seeing the rabbits around the civic centre!

For me:

Bees. They're marvellous, and I love it when my lavender hums with them.
Home-grown veg. I love making a salad from veg that are still warm from the sun in our garden.
Closing the curtains on a winter evening - makes me feel all cosy and snug, like I'm shutting the cold out.
Cheese on toast.
Hedgehogs.
Mistletoe balls in trees - I'll never get over the novelty of seeing it grow.

kshaw · 14/07/2019 09:22

@wormentrude unfortunately I'm not in Newcastle (my uni city and still love it!) I'm in Leeds, the university buildings have lots of rabbits running around, it cheers my morning up!

The weekend newspapers!

LeopardPrintKnickers · 14/07/2019 09:26

Oh these are glorious and have made me beam from ear to ear.

For me, it’s
Wood pigeons cooing
Moments alone with the sun shining and nothing that needs doing (admittedly this is rarer than hen’s teeth)
The crunch of gravel that tells me i’m home
The perfect pillow
Walking into the kitchen and there being nothing out of place
Being freshly showered on a warm day
A perfectly cooked steak
The sight of turquoise sea in Cornwall
Einaudi playing
Tea or coffee in my favourite mug
Time spent with lovely friends - makes you feel proud that they’re your people.
A good hair day
My rings - each one is so special and so meaningful, they make me happy every single day

It’s so easy to lose sight of what makes our hearts sing, and I’ve loved reading everyone else’s and pondering my own, thanks OP.

My tortoise he's 1 so still small so I think he counts Smile he's my spirit animal I love him !!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/07/2019 10:07

The little gadget for so easily getting the zest off lemons and oranges. £7. Only discovered that there was such a thing shortly before last Christmas - revelation! Instead of using horrible box grater.
Dh is now getting his favourite lemon meringue pie more than once a year on his birthday.

madroid · 14/07/2019 10:15

Link please getting?

Teacher22 · 14/07/2019 11:34

oooh, Getting, could you tell us where you got this grater thingy. I make lemon curd and all sorts of citrus puddings but I hate the box grater part of making them.

Teacher22 · 14/07/2019 11:35

sorry, should be 'Ooh!' not oooh.

(Though this is a weird post, per se, I admit.)

WoollyMollyMonkey · 14/07/2019 12:27

Chubby baby legs, and the back of their necks.
Nature in my garden - bees buzzing on the lavender, birds on my feeders, butterflies and ladybirds. The sound of housemartin chicks chattering in the nest above my bathroom window.
Scented flowers
A tree laden with growing apples - in anticipation of numerous apple crumbles to come!
The smell of freshly dried washing off the line.
Unwrapping and smelling a bar of lovely Cadbury chocolate.
Cake, lots of cake, and a cup of steaming hot coffee. Ummmmm

WoollyMollyMonkey · 14/07/2019 12:29

I did not know why, but forgot to add cats! Any cat, even grumpy spitty bitey ones!

AquaPris · 14/07/2019 12:32

That feeling when you start a new book and the very first page has you hooked. Fabulous, especially if it's a trilogy and they're all already released

TopBitchoftheWitches · 14/07/2019 12:34

Just seen this thread and I immediately thought of bees 🐝 too.

theluckiest · 14/07/2019 12:35

Aaaah! This thread is like a big hug...

Hedgehogs

Dragonflies

The bats that fly over the garden at dusk

Dusk

Sunrise

Owls

Dog sighs

Getting up super early to go on holiday

Seeing the sea for the first time on the way to holidays

My little Y2 class singing their little hearts out with gusto

The little girl who said 'Mrs Luckiest...Te amo' after a Spanish lesson

Smells...DH, newborn baby, my DSs hair, fresh cut grass, new books

My moody, gangly, grumpy teenager giving me an impromptu hug 'Just because..' Smile

The sound of the sea.

The view of the countryside when it is all covered in snow or frost, on a sunny winter’s day with a pure blue sky.

Snuggling with a Labrador.

Crusty bread, salty butter and cherry tomatoes eaten together.

When my husband takes my son out and leaves me in peace for a couple of hours!

Bubbean · 14/07/2019 15:01

This thread is just beautiful and so many of you have made me cry! We have so much to be thankful for when we pause to think about it.

My list is:
The way my DD9 month’s lights up when my DS5 is on the room
The smell of garlic cooking
Standing by the edge of the sea in bare feet just breathing in the fresh air
Bird song
Watching the lambs in the spring
(Lucky enough to watch one being born last year 😭😍)
A hot mug of a Yorkshire Tea
The smell of fresh lavender
Sitting at the piano and just playing for as long as I want with no interruptions
The train pulling into my home town and the sight of family on the platform.

I

The sound of Lapwings, we have lots near our village, and I adore the 'pee wit' sound they make 💙

BearRabbitPants · 14/07/2019 15:58

Stamping on crunchy autumn leaves 🍁

Being sat down before 7:30pm all showered, cosy and ready to binge watch a TV Series (RARE!)

My children's smiles when they see me in the mornings once they wake

Silence

Scented candles especially in autumn and winter

My utility room - one of my favourite rooms in the house

Freshly hoovered carpets and the 'track marks' the hoover leaves behind

elfies · 14/07/2019 16:04

Clean air dried sheets

mamaduckbone · 14/07/2019 16:05

The little clip that holds my mobile phone into one of the vents in the car so I can see google maps when I'm driving.
Honestly, it's changed my life.

mamaduckbone · 14/07/2019 16:09

A hug and kiss from my gigantic 6 foot teenage ds☺️

SummiSummit · 14/07/2019 16:52

That feeling when you're properly hungry, and the dinner's nearly ready in the oven, and you can smell its deliciousness and know you can tuck in soon. Especially good if you've been exercising or working hard and feel like you've "earned" the appetite. (I might be sniffing the air here currently, waiting for my food...)
