Fucking Ryan Air! FFS!

Email from Ryan Air yesterday at 1pm - did you know our hold baggage allowance is absolutely miniscule so if you want to bring a standard sized wheel-on case you have to book priority booking and pay an extra amount starting from £8.00?

Ok, so I logged on to do that tonight at 5pm. Website says No - Sold Out.

What the frig am I supposed to do now?

I think you have to buy a hold case for £20 or whatever it is. If you use the hand luggage size one you might be able to book priority boarding for the way back.

Catbot · 02/07/2019 21:33

Greedy fuckers. Airlines are getting ridiculous. One airline wanted to charge over £300 to take a suitcase when I booked a flight last year.

TheCrowFromBelow · 02/07/2019 21:37

Do you mean cabin bag limit?
Can you pay for hold baggage at the airport or add it to your booking now, I think that’s the only option.

BarbaraofSevillle · 02/07/2019 21:41

To be fair, they do tell you the cost when you book and that the product is likely to sell out.

For a couple of quid more, you can just check a small case into the hold instead, it's really no biggie.

Tatapie · 02/07/2019 21:41

You have to pay Ryanair now to either take hold luggage and/or cabin baggage. Basically anything except a handbag costs! If you've planned on taking cabin and they've sold out then you'll have to pay to put it in the hold. Robbin' Bastards!

Tatapie · 02/07/2019 21:42

Do not leave it until you get to the airport Shock

Thursday452poh · 02/07/2019 21:44

It’s not a new thing and was introduced last year, it’s also all over their site when you book!

TheFlis12345 · 02/07/2019 21:44

They are money grabbing arseholes in general, but on this occasion it’s not their fault you didn’t read the luggage restrictions (which they make very clear) when you booked.

BlueSkiesLies · 02/07/2019 21:45

Not a new thing. Book a hold suitcase now online.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 02/07/2019 21:47

Sorry, yes I meant cabin bag in my op.

My smallest wheel on case it about 10cm bigger all round than Ryanair will accept, apparently. Never had a problem with it on any other bog standard airline like Easy Jet.

Ok, so I'll agree to pay the extra. But - NOPE! wouldn't you know? That's "sold out" so now I have to pay to put it in the hold or pay the fucking £25 fine. Fucking shifty scummy arsehole bastards.

You see I don’t think they are money grabbing...the other airlines just add this stuff into the price of the ticket. Ryanair are always upfront about how they make you pay extra. Unlike bloody Thomas cook who just tried to charge me for extra entertainment ( long haul flight only 6 films available “free”four of them for kids) , alcoholic drinks ( fair enough) but also for soft drinks from the alcohol trolley

Ffsnosexallowed · 02/07/2019 21:49

What do you do?? You pay for hold luggage. You'll have been given info at time of booking, shouldn't be a surprise.

BarbaraofSevillle · 02/07/2019 21:50

I must be the only person who doesn't really have a problem with Ryanair. They've flown me to the Canaries and Malta multiple times for less than the cost of a bus to the next town once you take flight tax into account.

And they're a damn sight more reliable at getting to Dublin on time compared to Aer Lingus in my experience.

NeverPutAWetFootInABirkenstock · 02/07/2019 21:51

Would it be cheaper to buy a smaller bag?

Ffsnosexallowed · 02/07/2019 21:52

They're not shifty - they're cheap.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 02/07/2019 21:54

Well you might not want to take a chance, but I've just been taking my usual rucksack through as my one small bag, and they haven't said a word, or charged me anything. It's bigger than a wheely case but as I'm carrying it they don't seem bothered.

I last flew yesterday, and before that last week.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 02/07/2019 21:54

The only option for hold baggage now is a 20kg bag for £50.

How the fuck do they get away with this?

OP posts:
Gottoloveabagel · 02/07/2019 21:56

You know it's cheap and it's still cheaper than paying other airlines so it's how it goes!

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 02/07/2019 21:56

How big is your fucksack, Tawdry?

OP posts:
Ffsnosexallowed · 02/07/2019 21:57

You could have booked cabin bag when you originally booked. They don't have room for everyone to bring on a cabin bag. You'll know for next time

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 02/07/2019 21:57

We are returning on a different airline and that flight is cheaper, as it happens.

OP posts:
BarbaraofSevillle · 02/07/2019 21:58

£50 is the going rate for a 20 kg hold bag on just about every budget type airline. That's how they get away with it. You are unlikely to find an airline to do it for less while charging a similar price for your actual ticket.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 02/07/2019 21:58

Rucksack! It's a Rucksack!

40 litres I think.

cluecu · 02/07/2019 21:59

We didn't pay for priority boarding then we went to do so and it had sold out. Live chat said our rucksacks would need to be checked in for no cost.. Annoying but fair enough. Went to check bags in and the rep for Ryanair said no need.. We'd be fine as they can go under seat. No one said anything at the gate about them Confused

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 02/07/2019 22:00

Barbara - I'm not complaining about the price of a hold bag. I'm complaining about not being able to pay for a cabin bag prior to checking in.
