Fucking Ryan Air! FFS!

Email from Ryan Air yesterday at 1pm - did you know our hold baggage allowance is absolutely miniscule so if you want to bring a standard sized wheel-on case you have to book priority booking and pay an extra amount starting from £8.00?

Ok, so I logged on to do that tonight at 5pm. Website says No - Sold Out.

What the frig am I supposed to do now?

I just went to our booking to add a 10kg bag but the only option was to add it for all 5 of us, costing £200 extra

You should be able to add it for any number. It can be a bit tricky to find, but it is available. Maybe try doing it through the app instead of the website?

We flew RA a couple of months ago and I got priority and DP didn't because we wanted to add one small bag and that was the cheapest way to do it.

Barbaraofseville yes I tried through the website. Was going to try and add priority or another bag. It doesn’t have to go in the cabin. I’ll download the app and give it another go.

@Karwomannghia

Our hold bag was booked way in advance and a 20kg bag was £40 not £15.

Maybe it depends on the flight? Ours was £15 each way, so £30 return. Was Gatwick to Dublin flight.

Karwomannghia · 03/07/2019 08:14

Oh right, our is to Italy so yes maybe that’s it.

BarbaraofSevillle · 03/07/2019 08:20

Yes, the hold bag is route and season dependent. Gatwick to Dublin in winter is substantially cheaper than Gatwick to Lanzarote in August for example.

Karwomannghia · 03/07/2019 08:21

Thanks Barbara I have added one priority with the app. Did you and your dh board separately then?

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 03/07/2019 08:32

Thanks Katisha, that song is hilarious!

floribunda18 · 03/07/2019 08:34

I'm sure you will be able to book something at check in, OP.

Booboo66 · 03/07/2019 08:35

With Jet2 it's now £6 each way to ensure you can take your cabin bag on board, which I didn't mind to a point as it's easier to get rid of a couple of bags when travelling alone with dc (hand luggage only as hold bag was £60 😳) but I need to have one bag in the cabin with snacks, activities etc.. happy to pay the £12 for this for the trip, except you can either guarantee all 3 or none at all. So an extra £36! No thanks. Took the risk and it wasn't even mentioned that bags might go in the hold to any passenger. Money for nothing

Booboo66 · 03/07/2019 08:36

Posted too soon - meant to add - Crooks!!

Karwomannghia · 03/07/2019 08:36

Beg your pardon Lizzie now I can see the full breakdown on the app it was £25 each way for the gold bag; it would be £40 to add it now. Just went to check I’d added it both ways!

WhatHaveIFound · 03/07/2019 10:45

I had that email too at about the same time. Handbaggage is now miniscule but thankfully i'd already booked hold baggage.

It's a one way flight for my DD (first time on her own) so she's anxious enough as it is. I wouldn't normally book Ryanair but it's the only flight that will get her to her destination on time.

I've had my own panic this morning and been on their website to make sure a 17 year old can travel alone!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 03/07/2019 11:07

Last time I flew Ryan Air I wore all my clothes at the same time so I didn't have to put them in a bag and pay for it. I was very hot though, and also found it quite hard to get the seatbelt over me so would not necessarily recommend this approach.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 03/07/2019 11:26

Last time I flew Ryan Air I wore all my clothes at the same time so I didn't have to put them in a bag and pay for it.

Ah yes, the old Heidi Manouvre. I've done a limited version (coats, cardigans) but not committed to the full experience of wearing everything I'm bringing.

rookiemere · 03/07/2019 11:28

Seriously you wore all your clothes Shock? That must have been interesting at security.

Booboo66 · 03/07/2019 11:30

Last time I flew Ryan Air I wore all my clothes at the same time so I didn't have to put them in a bag and pay for it.

They make that a complete nuisance too by making you remove half of it at security. Pain I'd you are travelling with dc and multiple hand baggage's

Bluntness100 · 03/07/2019 11:34

For good ness sake. I'm embarrassed for you. Ryanair operate menu pricing, what's in your ticket is very clear at the time of booking, if you wish extras, like cabin baggage, you add it, it's hardly their fault you didn't read what was right in front of your face or take the opportunity to book your bag at the time.

They are not a full service airline. You book your ticket then anything else on top. Hence why the ticket price is low.

If you struggle to understand then you need to have someone else with you next time you book travel.

Untamedtoad · 03/07/2019 11:39

The £25 minimum fine is for each case, each way, so for 2 bags will cost you a minimum of £100. The Ryan air "hand luggage bag" is smaller than the average handbag/backpack, by no means enough for even a weekend away. We fly Ryan air frequently, and pay the extra for a cabin bag, which is the same size that you usually get for free with most airlines. If you rock up to the airport with cabin size bags, you will have to check them into the hold for the fee. There is no way they will let you carry them on to the plane now. The overhead lockers are always bursting at the seams once they've accepted the quota for carry one. We ended up having to leave our carry ons at the back of the plane with cabin crew as there was no space last time, despite us paying for priority boarding and allocated cabin bag space. It's a joke

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 03/07/2019 11:45

Seriously you wore all your clothes shock? That must have been interesting at security.

No, no! You don't wear them through security!

Security don't care how many bags you have, so you bring your clothes through in a light fabric bag, then just put them before you go through the boarding gate. If you are hardcore, you could strip them off again on the Tarmac while waiting to board the plane.

rookiemere · 03/07/2019 11:48

Jeez Louise wouldn't it be simpler just to pay the £10 each way rather than perform some complicated burlesque number before and after you board ? I mean I admire your enthusiasm and all - and that's a neat tip about he collapsible bag - but it does seem a bit extreme.

sacope · 03/07/2019 11:56

For good ness sake. I'm embarrassed for you. Ryanair operate menu pricing, what's in your ticket is very clear at the time of booking,

OP said she didn't know about the reduction in nagger size, which indicates she booked before the change. So it would not be clear at the time of booking at all. What's odd is that the notification email came months after the change was implemented.

bellinisurge · 03/07/2019 12:28

I booked before the change but I had many many emails from Ryanair about it and every time I logged into the app it was there. No excuse for not reading information given to you about your flight.

NWQM · 03/07/2019 13:05

We flew Ryanair over the weekend. On the way out everyone was fine but on the flight back the airport staff were super vigilant. Lots of people had to pay on the spot as carry on rucksacks etc 'too big'.
