Fucking Ryan Air! FFS!

Email from Ryan Air yesterday at 1pm - did you know our hold baggage allowance is absolutely miniscule so if you want to bring a standard sized wheel-on case you have to book priority booking and pay an extra amount starting from £8.00?

Ok, so I logged on to do that tonight at 5pm. Website says No - Sold Out.

What the frig am I supposed to do now?

Rucksack not fucksack! Oh dear Blush.

They do this because there is not enough space for everyone to carry on a suitcase. I don't think it is unreasonable and it has made hoarding much quicker and less of a bunfight. Book early, travel (very) light or check a bag. Those are your options.

LouLouLoupee · 02/07/2019 22:06

I don’t get how you can miss it while booking, it irritates me how often they ask me if I want to add luggage.
I think you just have to accept you made a mistake and either pay up or go without.

Inthemuckheap · 02/07/2019 22:07

I quite liked "Fucksack" - I thought you were going away for a dirty weekend.....

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 02/07/2019 22:13

Gonna cram it all in a 30l fucksack. They aren't getting a penny extra out of me the fekkers.

Just looked at my booking confirmation email - absolutely no mention whatsoever of cabin bag size limits.

They changed the cabin bag system last November I think, it was publicised heavily at the time and when you book you can add priority boarding (with larger cabin bag) at the time. It clearly states it during the booking process of you book directly with them

Starisnotanumber · 02/07/2019 22:25

If you go to the website and put in add small bag it lets you do that it's usually around 8.00 to 10.00 it's not the same as priority boarding. It can be done anytime before you get to airport allows you to put bags in hold so you can put liquids in it.
Alternatively if you want to risk it you are allowed airport purchases so when you go through security they don't care how much stuff you have within reason. It something from boots or smiths and cram your things in there.

Starisnotanumber · 02/07/2019 22:28

Sorry get something from smiths like newspaper or other shops and use the bags for your stuff

CassandraCross · 02/07/2019 22:43

Next cabin bag size limits will be on your Boarding Pass, the small cabin bag you are allowed if you haven't done Priority Boarding has to fit under the seat in front of you. You may get away with it, you may not depending on the staff on the day and whether the flight is full.

You are right it is all to increase revenue, you used to be able to put the cabin bag in the hold free of charge at the boarding gate but then they realised they could make money by charging you to do that!

Can you not book a small 10kg wheelie cabin bag to be checked in for £10 (rather than taking it onboard)? This was one of the options when we flew recently.

Hollycatberry · 02/07/2019 23:09

Yep just purchase the 10kg checked bag. Cost is £10-£25 depending on your destination.

Cherrysoup · 02/07/2019 23:10

I almost missed this booking my Tui flight. Since when are you charged for taking bloody luggage?! Bonkers.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm · 02/07/2019 23:11

Actually I don’t find Ryanair particularly cheap. We normally go school holidays though, and try to avoid them if I can. Out of the low cost carriers, prefer easyJet or Jet2. Sometimes British Airways is actually cheaper than all of them tho.

freshcottoncandles · 02/07/2019 23:14

I second changing it and using a rucksack (fucksack Grin) Me and DH always take bags that are way over the limit but because they’re on our backs rather than wheely suitcases nobody seems to notice. We’ve never been asked to put them in one of the measuring things to check.

shinynewapple · 02/07/2019 23:15

Yes they have changed the size if the included on board baggage and you now have to pay for the bag size that was previously free. It dies say quite clearly in the website when you book your ticket though.

sacope · 02/07/2019 23:22

Why would it be on your confirmation? This is something you sort out when booking the flight.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 02/07/2019 23:45

Prawnoftheshed - I we didn't book Ryanair because of the cost, we booked with them because the time of their flight was the most convenient for a group of us. I've flown Ryanair before and been able to take a small wheeled cabin bag on with me. If there had been clear information about the reduction in their cabin bag size it wouldn't have come as a surprise to me. No option to check a 10kg bag in either - that has also "sold out". Only option is to check in a 20kg bag for £50.00 Hmm.

Ryanair changed their baggage policy last year. Did you book before that and they have just notified you now? Months later?

problem1234567 · 02/07/2019 23:56

I've recently booked with Ryanair for the first time.
They only let you take on bag into the cabin and I need my handbag so it was either pay a bit more to also take a small cabin bag or pay a bit more still to get hold luggage.
Think I chose hold luggage of 15kg for about £20 or something.

MidniteScribbler · 03/07/2019 00:17

It's because of dickheads who think the rules don't apply to them that fuck it up for everyone else.

HellYeah90s · 03/07/2019 04:57

Yes I agree re oversized rucksacks they don't seem to take much notice.

I have taken what would be considered a large rucksack on various airlines (not Ryanair though) for a few years and never been pulled up. I don't feel that guilty because DH never takes anything that needs to go into overhead lockers, and the kids only take tiny kiddy backpacks.

BrigitsBigKnickers · 03/07/2019 05:18

I always find Ryan air way way cheaper than EasyJet where I often fly to so calling them thieving bastards is hardly fair. Not only do they make it clear what their rules are, they also send multiple emails in the weeks leading up to your flight checking if you want to book a cabin bag on.

I was really annoyed by the number of passengers who clearly either hadn't read the rules or chose to ignore them on a Ryan Air flight recently who were really abusive to the gate staff who wouldn't let let them take their cabin bags on and charged to put them in the hold.

If you don't like their policies then don't fly with them.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/07/2019 05:45

Tbh I’m pleased by this rule. It stops inconsiderate travellers from ramming all the cupboards full before I arrive at my seat. Now there is room for my stuff. I’m disabled. I need room for my stuff.

The world shouldn’t revolve around able bodied people, who want to save a few quid.
