I think my husband has been sacked

I know work has been going badly for him, but now a p45 has shown up. ( yes, I know I shouldn’t have opened it, but you know when you know something’s not right!) We have a mortgage and 3dc, what the hell do I do or say?
He’s not intentionally crap or lazy, but getting too old for what he does. He’s “at work” now. I’ve tried to call and been told he’s not there. I’m worried for his mental health and how the hell we’re going to cope. What paperwork should he have? How easy is it to get a job in say a shop if you’ve been sacked from something else?

Professor prospective..reminds me about the mnetter who reported a man sitting in his car near her house every day .
Don’t know what the outcome was

Last June my son was suspended from his job. He never told me till October
All the while He and his partner acted like life was normal.

He didn’t want to worry me. Despite he and the workers in the office engaging in same behaviour, he and and an older colleague were scapegoated.
They both , despite the Union ended up being dismissed. He’s now in a min wage job that he hates but is grateful for as he has children.
He’s applied to go into nursing

Only now a year later , he’s describing it as pure hell

My poor boy 😢

He wants to take it to tribunal.

Good luck to both you and your husband

Whatthefoxgoingon · 02/07/2019 12:47

Absolutely brutal to lose your job at his age. Glad you’ve had a talk and are so supportive. Doubly glad you have your own full time job!

Brexit has spooked a lot of businesses and we can expect similar stories in days to come. Wishing you all the best and hope he finds a new job very soon Flowers

MrsMiggins37 · 02/07/2019 13:30

He wants to take it to tribunal.

If it was last year he’s probably way too late.

Notcopingwellhere · 02/07/2019 14:19

So sorry that this has happened OP. However what do you mean by “clearly too old for the role”? If it is a physical job then maybe, but age discrimination is illegal. Have they actually suggested that his age is a factor?

Dogsaresomucheasier · 02/07/2019 16:51

It’s both a physical job and requires quick thinking and ICT skills, which, in spite of training, he can’t get to grips with at the level needed.

@Dogsaresomucheasier if it helps, I was dismissed from my job of a decade, with notice pay. I took whatever job I could get in order to a) get money and b) get a reference so I ended up working as a carer and loving it
I'm now in a FT job for a luxury brand and better off than I was before I lost my job. No stress, no performance worries
He might need to wallow for a bit, I did. Then I got my CV up to date and asked friends for help

FetchezLaVache · 02/07/2019 17:22

He's been under a disciplinary procedure for 6 months? Poor guy, can't imagine the stress of dealing with all that on his own. I hope at least he feels relief that it's out in the open now.

Sending kindest thoughts to you and your family Flowers

FluffyCloudsInTheSky · 09/08/2019 07:50

AnneKipanki · 09/08/2019 08:04
