This is bad isn't it? - House Selling

My mum has had her house on the market since February and is struggling to sell as it's a really unusual home and perhaps not everyone's cup of tea. It is one of 3 houses of the same style on drive and yesterday her NDN said they were also putting their house on the market Shock. It's very similar to my mum's house (same architect designed it). The EA tried to put a positive spin on it and say if people were coming to see NDN it might attract more attention for my mum's but in reality, you'd think they were both selling for some reason wouldn't you? Either something up with the house or something happening in the local area? My poor mum is so stressed about it all and we just want it sold Sad.

That house is AMAZING! It looks like a holiday home!!!

It personally wouldn't worry me regarding neighbour. We viewed a lot of houses in the same area that were all build at the same time by same building firm. They were all very different inside because everyone puts their own spin on it.

zafferana · 28/06/2019 14:06

It's lovely! That would've been snapped up if it was down here (home counties). I'm amazed it hasn't sold since Feb. What a gorgeous setting and so much light. I love modernist architecture.

Pursefirst · 28/06/2019 14:07

It's gorgeous.

Can't see why it wouldn't sell even with a similar neighbouring house on the market, look at all the PPs on this thread alone who think it's fab.

Best of luck with it OP!

rickandmorts · 28/06/2019 14:08

Thanks for the links and extra feedback.

That house is HD4 which is a lot cheaper than HD8.

And she has a drawing of Falling Water on one of the walls! Looks amazing. She is a cool mum indeed, thanks for whoever said that Grin

Stunning - don't understand how it's not sold.

rickandmorts · 28/06/2019 14:16

Right everyone, going to report and get it pulled as it is identifying and I've got some amazing feedback. Apart from the person that said knock it down and start again 😂.

GinThanks

Love it!!

hoteltango · 28/06/2019 14:18

I do like the house. It's very light and airy.

A few points that might possibly help:

As PPs have said, it would be better to put some detail on the floorplan regarding the bathroom. I initially thought it was one of the bedrooms, which made it seem that there was only one toilet, plus a shower room only accessible from one of the bedrooms.

From the photos, it looks as though the space/table for eating can only fit three people. Maybe a longer table and more chairs would look better.

The garden room doesn't seem to have much purpose. Maybe an office would be better? There is a growing trend for people wanting to work from home and a dedicated office space could attract someone who wants a more edgy-looking house to impress clients.

RavenLG · 28/06/2019 14:18

What a cool house! I would definitely consider that if I was in your area / could afford it.

Garden boundaries is first thing I looked for. Although it says it sits on woodland, how much of that are you actually getting?

I too am confused about the 3 level / 2 level layout but i might just be looking at it wrong.

Tavannach · 28/06/2019 14:19

I love it. The Modern House is my go to for fantasy mid century houses.

There's also modernist estates although lately she's started concentrating on rental and only lists 'for sale' on the blog. Maybe only does London.

In pic 13 I'd put something tall and narrow between the coat rack and the sofa - pot plant, shelving, whatever.

My estate agent relative says it's always the price if houses don't sell.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 28/06/2019 14:21

Wow. The house is amazing. Some bits of decor that aren't my taste but not enough to worry me if I were looking to buy or were near that area. I have no idea on what to suggest though

justasking111 · 28/06/2019 14:21

Well an echo of Frank Lloyd Wright falling water house which DS studied at uni. Maybe put that in EA blurb.

Its very cool

Definitely look into using The Modern House. You will find your buyers there.

LizzieMacQueen · 28/06/2019 14:29

I'd name the architect rather than say 'architect designed'. Even if it's an architect no-one has heard of, it will lift the status a little.

Sorry haven't RTFT has Ferris Bueller been mentioned?

Ninkaninus · 28/06/2019 14:32

rick just checking that you got the jokey tone of my comment! Smile

There may be a pricing issue if no one’s been interested yet but I’m sure lots of people will want it at the right price. Depends how quick.y she wants to sell it and whether or not she’s willing to pitch it at the right ,evel.

I don’t think she needs to stress over the timing with the other house. It’s only two properties, that could feasibly be a coincidence (which it is) - I think most people would worry if it was a whole row of properties all on the same stretch.

netflixlove · 28/06/2019 14:33

I love it! The nice big garden is gorgeous too. I think it must not be selling because people maybe don't have that budget right now? I would deffo want it if I could afford it!

LiveatCityHall · 28/06/2019 14:34

That is absolutely stunning! What a gorgeous house.

AndromedaPerseus · 28/06/2019 14:35

It’s an amazing house and the surroundings are stunning also love the interior design.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/06/2019 14:36

I'd buy that and the furniture!

PlatypusPie · 28/06/2019 14:43

I think it’s gorgeous ! It seems to be as one with the woodland - and the price ! ( from the position of one in a pretty but comparatively small Victorian terrace in London) There are people who adore this style of 60s house - you just need two sets of people for whom Huddersfield would work as a location.

Tuktuktaker · 28/06/2019 14:44

Just coming back to say I think a pp's suggestion that she goes national rather than using a local estate agent is a good one.
Good luck to your mother!

avalanching · 28/06/2019 14:47

That looks amazing, like something out of Thunderbirds! My first thought was that's a lot of money for the area, I imagine you have a lot of competition in regards to what you can get per square metre that way. Hang tight though, someone will fall in love with it!

BirthdayCakes · 28/06/2019 14:49

OP - another one saying its absolutely beautiful! A real dream house..

H2OH20Everywhere · 28/06/2019 14:49

I love it! And the garden is amazing!!!!!!!!! She'll find the right seller for it in time.

QueenofPain · 28/06/2019 14:50

Gorgeous house! I’m sure it will sell just fine, you just need the right buyer!
