I’ve started this thread having had the most hilarious exchange with an old man and his carer whilst getting my morning coffee.

“Give it some welly”
“ looks like 6 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag” 😂
“If there’s a rotten potato in the pot I’ll get it”
“Knock ‘em bandy”

I’ve never heard any of them and they need reviving 🤣🤣

Please share yours that might be new to me also. I haven’t stopped laughing thinking I’d him.

Like a fart in a colander (dithering)

Up and down like whore's drawers

I love 'blithering idiot'!

Balderdash!

My granny used to say 'Keep your hand on your ha'penny' - I think it was a ribald old music hall song

Don't just stand there looking like cheese at fourpence.

Be said or be sorry.

Yer daft ha'porth.

Just catching up on this after the thread bump...

@MozzchopsThirty
Crystal Palace thing has me totally thrown. Live a bus ride from there, can see it from a few places, know lots of people who thought it was the Eiffel Tower when they were wee (etc). NEVER heard anyone use that phrase - Blackpool Illuminations or Oxford Street Christmas Lights yes, but Crystal Palace? Do you know what they were actually referring to? The Palace itself had no lighting & if you were after a fire presumably you’d just go 1666... or did they mean flood lights at the football stadium?

@SwimmerGirl40
Not rhyming slang, no. It’s from a Victorian play & while originally it covered going to the loo it’s pretty much come to have the socially agreed meaning of Going For A Drink (as it’s now not considered unacceptable to excuse yourself to go to the bathroom).
