How many days off sick have you had this year?

Ive had 3 and I've been told that's high. I had 2 days (back to back) back in Feb due to suspected mild pnumonia. I worked from home for a week before but 2 days I could barely move let alone work.
I've had one more day recently due to a cold. I was coughing up a lot of gung and it triggered my gag reflex and I was sick so they send me home.

I work for a very small company so I think only one other person had had a sick day but so far I've had the most. It's definitely more noticeable in a small team too so I don't want to be seen as a piss taker.

So, is that a lot in the space of 6 months? How many have you had?

Mine is high! 80+ days with a specific pain issue. Took ages to get a diagnosis and treatment but now I’m better and going back soon.

I don’t think 3 days is particularly high. People get ill.

Biancadelrioisback · 11/06/2019 17:01

The day they sent me home was the Friday before I was due to go on annual leave. I was sick at 9:30am so was home I bed by 10:30! I slept the whole day too, only woke up when everyone else was getting home and I was convinced that they all must havd left there workplaces/nursery at lunch time as I couldn't have slept until 6!

I get poorly all the time. If someone has something, I'll catch it for sure. My place are good though, it's not them who told my my absence rate was high or anything, it was my friend as she hasn't been off sick in 5 years and I can't understand how!!

I've had 3 this year, but up until then I hadn't taken a single day off sick in about 5 years.

ValleyoftheHorses · 11/06/2019 17:02

I had a week off with an awful cold/ cough in December but none this year.
Yours sounds normal to me, I seem to average a week a year and I’m self employed and don’t earn when not working, so not pulling a sickie, just genuinely too poorly to work. Sometimes I would be ok if I could WFH or had a desk job but not up to clinical Dentistry though as you really have to be firing on all cylinders to be safe.

BenWillbondsPants · 11/06/2019 17:03

3 months and will be off at least 3 months more.

BenWillbondsPants · 11/06/2019 17:04

Incidentally, prior to this year, I haven't had a day off sick for 9 years.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 11/06/2019 17:04

None in last 3 years.

Dljlr · 11/06/2019 17:05

None since 8 weeks recovering from surgery in 2015, but like others I can wfh if I'm feeling a bit shitty.

TheNumberfaker · 11/06/2019 17:05

0 days in nearly 5 years, but have had loads off with either or both my DDs sick. Working at my daughters’ school means they know I’m not taking the mickey.

Teddybear45 · 11/06/2019 17:06

Your friend sounds like a minger. Bet she’s that dirtbag in every workplace who comes in with the runs / colds and gives it to everyone else. Or comes in delirious and ineffective and her colleagues pick up her work.

Moominfan · 11/06/2019 17:06

2 in feb, I don't think it's very high. In my work place though people seem to go off sick for a few days every 3months. So for repeat offenders there is a fair degree of skepticism

Youngandfree · 11/06/2019 17:08

None for me,
None for DH
None for the dc from school either. 2 and a half weeks left of work and school for me and dc so fingers crossed we make it 😂

Redglitter · 11/06/2019 17:08

31 days over 2 periods 😞

Grumpbum123 · 11/06/2019 17:09

I’ve been off a year

TheBestNapIEverHad · 11/06/2019 17:11

I had flu in February and had 5 consecutive days off. I hadn’t had a day off for a year before that, or any days off since.

It doesn’t sound like your sickness record is concerning, really.

We have to have a meeting with our boss after three periods of sickness in a 12 month period. It’s a policy thing and it’s more a chance for the boss to find out if you have an ongoing health issue rather than to give a bollocking.

Thatsalovelycuppatea · 11/06/2019 17:12

Unfortunately a lot. But no one can prepare you for being diagnosed with cancer.

TroysMammy · 11/06/2019 17:13

None. Last year 2 due to d&v. Before that off sick 4 days with a virus in 2007.

FrenchyQ · 11/06/2019 17:13

9 days since December in 6 instances. My company are really good about time off,

purpleleotard · 11/06/2019 17:15

Work for myself
So Nil

colouringinpro · 11/06/2019 17:15

A lot this year. But I was too ill to go in.

It's very scary though - I am worried about my job security now Sad

Tipsylizard · 11/06/2019 17:15

15 days in 25 years - non this year. I am fortunate to have had good health and easy pregnancies. Also a flexible employer who gives time off for appointments etc.

Pearlfish · 11/06/2019 17:16

None in the last five years.

colouringinpro · 11/06/2019 17:17

P.s. three days is not a lot. And if you had pneumonia they should be breathing a sigh of relief it wasn't three weeks. It is hard in smaller firms, but if you're ill, you're ill!

TheRLodger · 11/06/2019 17:17

Since Jan 1/2 day due to really bad period pain.
Last 12 months took 2 weeks off because of glandular fever type thing. Which I get every so often and no one can get to bottom of

NKFell · 11/06/2019 17:18

8 days last August with pneumonia, would have been longer but I got it on holiday Angry and that was the only period in 2018 and none so far this year (touch wood!).

Yours doesn't sound high OP.
