It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

colbyandmontysmum My heart goes out to you! Fingers crossed it will be short lived!

Emmabryant123 · 17/06/2019 10:34

Shhh dappled I am trying to be in denial a little longer 😅

On a serious note I really can't wait until October...

DappledThings · 17/06/2019 10:38

Sorry Emma! Depends where you are. Seems ok still for a lot of the country and we're getting more rain tomorrow apparently.

Emmabryant123 · 17/06/2019 11:13

I'm in the South East
17c here today apparently but it feels warmer than that

Emmabryant123 · 17/06/2019 11:14

I was sweating when walking even wearing loose linen trousers and a loose top...

LoafofSellotape · 17/06/2019 11:18

Wine A nice cool drink for those who need it x

CaptainHammer · 17/06/2019 11:25

21° here Sad
There’s supposed to be rain tomorrow so hopefully it’ll go down a bit then.

colbyandmontysmum · 17/06/2019 14:19

Thank you, CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook. We had some workmen in and were told we are at the beginning of a 5 year cycle of hot humid summers. Great. But, we did get a heat pump installed earlier which will not only heat up our house in the winter but will also dehumidify and cool the house in the summer! I fought for that as DH didn't want to spend the money until he found out it will save us $$$ during the winter. This is an older house (for Canada) so has radiators which don't work as well as forced air.

It's sunny again today so it means either staying in or slathering on a lot of sunscreen and then spraying on a huge amount of insect repellent. I think I might stay in today. With all the windows open, it'll almost be as if I'm outside!

Rockbird · 17/06/2019 18:01

Very warm here this afternoon. Caught me unawares so I wasn't best pleased!

GummyGoddess · 17/06/2019 18:12

It's warm in the sun but there's a good breeze which is keeping things cool. I'm quite comfortable at the moment and 1 year old is happy roaming around without a top on, though 2 year old insists on socks even at the height of summer and won't consider being less than 100% dressed.

Emmabryant123 · 17/06/2019 18:53

My 3 year old has broken out in heat rash again today
Argh

LoafofSellotape · 18/06/2019 23:13

Oh no,poor thing 😞

It's sooo muggy tonight,my bedroom is hot and the lovely cool air has disappeared. Not happy!

SecretWitch · 19/06/2019 00:41

Same here. The air is so soggy. Humidity is awful. My cats still insist on lying right on me, though

LoafofSellotape · 19/06/2019 11:49

Urghhhhh,the air is so still.

LoafofSellotape · 19/06/2019 11:50

27 next week,noooooooo!!!!!

ExpletiveDelighted · 19/06/2019 11:59

Oh no, 27 and thundery forecast here too, what a horrible combination.

LoafofSellotape · 19/06/2019 12:12

Yep 😞

Becca19962014 · 19/06/2019 13:09

Supposedly it's 15c and raining here right now, combined with rain "it feels like 14c.

Liars.

BIG FAT NASTY LIARS

Or I would be ranty if I didn't feel so unwell. Blue skies, not a cloud insight anywhere, so no idea how they're observing the bloody rain (this is from an informal weather station where I live so more accurate than the official ones which are miles away - currently they're claiming rain and a maximum of 13c being observed) people are either in shorts and t-shirts or sweating in anything more.

It's 19.6c inside my flat right now because I've put the fan on.

Decided to go outside with my thermometer, it got to 20.4c before I decided to come in (nowhere near the recommended 5 minutes!) They're over 5c out!!! Not to mention the imaginary rain.

Do the metoffice know their fairies are either drunk or doing hallucinogenic drugs on duty??? BBC fairies doing the same thing??? They've even got the local station fairies at it as well.

Do you think they'd give me some so I'd feel cooler?????

Fuckers lying to me.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 19/06/2019 13:25

I LOVE summer...

I do not love the feeling it gives me in my eyes, my nose, my throat.

I HATE hayfever!!

Becca19962014 · 19/06/2019 16:05

So I ordered a small air cooler unit from Amazon (this one but am now really panicking that I've been conned. The price keeps going up and up (not mine obviously as ive already paid) and two others that look the same have appeared on the site.

I really cannot afford to lose £40 as I'm struggling financially (i am not begging here just stating a fact!) I had ordered one from a shop locally but they've just email to say the price has doubled (to £40) and the item has really really bad reviews everywhere.

Becca19962014 · 19/06/2019 16:06

Should have added some of the reviews now appearing say that they've been conned.

LoafofSellotape · 19/06/2019 16:09

That's an air cooler, which is the same as putting a bowl of ice or cold water under a fan. Can you send it back?

Becca19962014 · 19/06/2019 17:08

Fuck.
No.
Sad

I can't afford what I was told to buy by those in the support group (hundreds of pounds), this was the alternative as my room is very small and I'd be sat right next to it.

I'm such an idiot.
Sad

CheeseAndOnionIcecream · 19/06/2019 18:46

I am actually staggered by the number of people on this thread saying that they HATE hot weather, that anything over 20 degrees C is uncomfortable, and that they feel like they're going to die if it goes over 25 degrees C. I HATE hot weather, and was starting to feel like an absolute freak because of it. No one that I have spoken to,or know, dislikes the hot weather, with the solitary exception of my DDaughter. (Must have inherited it from me!). Don't get me wrong,I don't enjoy being freezing cold, but I fail to see the attraction in sweating continuously, feeling like you are going to faint when you go in certain shops, and the sensation that you are breathing in soup, not air. Barbecue summer? It can fuck right off as far as I'm concerned.

CheeseAndOnionIcecream · 19/06/2019 18:58

And I get infuriated by the words that newspapers use to describe forthcoming or ongoing heatwaves, such as enjoying',basking','glorious' etc etc. I get sick of the generalising assumption that we are ALL loving it and revelling in it.
