It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

That's it for me too, this assumption that everyone is desperate for hot weather.

LoafofSellotape · 19/06/2019 19:16

Fingers crossed the cooler is ok,it does seem expensive for what is basically a fan though.

lololove · 19/06/2019 19:26

God yes. The assumption that you're weird or wrong because you don't like it?

I have hyperhidrosis, I sweat profusely even when it's minus degrees. I never need to wear a coat/hat/scarf even in a storm - I get by in a hoody... summer just adds even more heat and even more sweating and it can sod off!

At the risk of far too much information - my bra and top was literally wet through today and it was allegedlyl only 18 degrees outside.

Roll on October!

Becca19962014 · 19/06/2019 19:45

loaf well it's too late now.

The ones recommended were hundreds of pounds and required an open window. The one I'd ordered for £20 has doubled in price and looking online has an average of two stars. I posted on the forum about it and someone said they found it was ok for them sitting right next to it.

To send it back would cost more than I've paid for it!!

Am really worried about it now though at least I'm trying something that has better reviews so there's a chance.

LoafofSellotape · 19/06/2019 21:18

18 degrees wand a dry heat is perfect,18 degrees is awful when it muggy like today.

I've had a migraine most of the day,I'm sure it's because of the weather. I'm just back from a walk and feel slightly better.

GummyGoddess · 19/06/2019 22:27

@Becca19962014 I'm not sure if you have tried one, but I have a cooling towel. It's made of some sort of mesh and keeps me a little shivery when I use it. Perhaps one of those might help you? I think I'm going to get another one soon to drape across my legs as the current one just goes around my shoulders.

It has been lovely and stormy over the past few days here. Sometimes it's a bit humid but that's a small price to pay to avoid excessive heat.

Becca19962014 · 19/06/2019 22:37

Are the cooling towels heavy? i struggle with having things on my skin that have weight because of my EDS.

LoafofSellotape · 19/06/2019 23:46

I used a pet cooling mat last year but I like the sound of a towel!

CommeDesPoissons · 20/06/2019 00:48

Can I add a moan about the light nights, and the flippin dawn chorus. Birds, go back to sleep! 4am is nighttime and I have to be up at 6. Sympathies to all the heat-sufferers, I'm with you on that one too.

GummyGoddess · 20/06/2019 07:26

No, they're extremely light when dry and maybe the size and heaviness of a thick hand towel. I could weigh mine when wet later? You wet them, wring them out enough that they aren't dripping and then sort of snap it by holding both ends and pulling it quickly.

I have used a pet cooling mat before but it didn't seem to stay cool for long enough.

LoafofSellotape · 20/06/2019 08:25

No my mat didn't stay cool for very long. I will get a towel!

Cool here today with a lovely breeze and some weak sunshine. The mugginess has disappeared along with my headache.

Yay!

ExpletiveDelighted · 20/06/2019 08:32

What a change overnight. It was still incredibly muggy last night when I walked home about 9pm, it feels so much fresher today. I don't mind a bit of sunshine if the humidity stays down.

Emmabryant123 · 20/06/2019 08:33

Means flat will be reaching around 30c at lunchtime ...
As it always gets so hot in here
Argh just hoping it doesn't last as long as last year

It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.
Emmabryant123 · 20/06/2019 08:34

On the upside the nights will start v slowly drawing in after tomorrow!
Yes yes yes can't wait for the dark evenings

ExpletiveDelighted · 20/06/2019 08:44

No to dark evenings for me, I love being able to do gardening and sit out late into the evening (when its too hot to do either during the day), it being light when I wake up etc.

Becca19962014 · 20/06/2019 12:33

I've really had enough today.

My GP today said she's worried about me now it looks like it'll be getting a bit warmer next week, my legs are looking really bad, all weather stations show it never went above 17c yesterday.

So the fairies are claiming today is currently a high of 13c.
Inside 18.8c
Outside 19.4c. Yep over 6c out.

Am terrified of next week when the same fairies are predicting 26c with thunder (trigger for seizures for me) Sad

RosaWaiting · 20/06/2019 13:54

oh there you are
quite worried re next week's temps forecast for London

already have a banging headache from the humidity

really hoping it's wrong. Becca, I am keeping everything crossed for you to be okay xx

CaptainHammer · 20/06/2019 14:12

My weather app is showing next Wednesday as reaching 31° Angry

@Becca19962014 I really hope it doesn’t get as hot and stormy as they say. Fingers crossed for you to be ok.

RosaWaiting · 20/06/2019 14:28

mine has 33.8

with the thermal effect around here...

I will possibly have to go and stay with mum. She doesn't do open windows at night because she thinks someone will climb in - yes, even the small windows - but probably still better than hanging around here. Longer journey to work though - have to calculate Tube issues. Argh.

also she won't let anyone sit out in the garden after 7pm. that is a downer. So on balance, maybe stay in boiling flat, I don't know!!

LoafofSellotape · 20/06/2019 15:57

Not allowed to sit outside after 7pm? What happens thenConfusedGrin

We're getting a garden sofa at the weekend and the first thing I thought was that if it gets really hot I can sleep on it at night Grin

RosaWaiting · 20/06/2019 16:16

Loaf I'd be the same.

no seriously, I haven't tried recently, but basically she gets massive anxiety that if I sit out there reading or something, I won't be paying enough attention and someone will sneak into the house.

it's an anxiety thing for sure. I have anxiety too, but mine manifests in different ways.

also, there's a problem with the door in a heatwave - does anyone else have this, I bet they do - the door expands and it's a battle to close it. So she has mega anxiety about opening and closing it too often but won't let us leave it propped open in case a fox gets in.

my sister gets annoyed about it as well, but mum is 80 with health problems so it wouldn't be right to stress her out further. it is a pity though because I would totally sleep outside!!

LoafofSellotape · 20/06/2019 16:24

My dad is like that with doors ,he's obsessed with draughts too.Makes it hard visiting. Our garden gate used to swell in the heat too and get stuck.

RosaWaiting · 20/06/2019 21:51

Met Office doesn't agree with other forecasts.

RosaWaiting · 21/06/2019 09:33

Met Office now agree with everyone else. Bollocks.

LoafofSellotape · 21/06/2019 09:42

Bollox indeed.
