It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

Fuck me,yet another weathersplainer Hmm

I've had a lovely day at some RHS gardens, wouldn't normally want to go at this time of year but it was perfect and pissed down on the way home, now it's dry and breezy Smile

mydogisthebest · 16/06/2019 09:37

Dappledthings, I absolutely get that different people like different things and feel differently about things BUT do you not get what I am saying that we get very little sun or hot weather and yet lots and lots of grey and rain?

As I KEEP saying, I don't like hot weather. Around 20 is great for me but we are not getting days anywhere near that.

If you don't like being fed up or depressed for a few days a year imagine what it is like to be depressed because of the dark and the grey and the rain for months and endless months!

It's not even the cold that bothers me. Of course I realise other countries get colder weather, I am not a complete moron. I don't really mind the cold. It's not like we get proper seasons is it with snow in the winter, sun in the summer etc.

It's the dark morning, the dark afternoons and evenings. Its the grey sky and the feeling that the whole sky is pressing down dark and grey. I feel like that from about October to, usually, at least April if not later.

I would like to see some blue sky, a bit of sun, feel a bit of warmth. It has been 15 where I live day after day. We have had at least 15 days of rain and not just showers. I am absolutely sick of it.

I honestly did not think there could possibly be a "we hate summer" thread this year because, honestly, there has been no summer

mydogisthebest · 16/06/2019 09:40

GummyGoddess, but you must spend the majority of the year being happy. Those of us who suffer from SAD certainly don't. Being affected by the weather is shit but surely you can see that being affected for maybe a couple of weeks as opposed as 8 or more months is hardly the same?

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/06/2019 09:42

The thread started when it was hot and sunny though, as some were worried about another heatwave like last year. It has moved on to mostly be an appreciation of the cooler, wetter weather that we have been having. Some of us like it. Why shouldn't we have a thread for that?

DappledThings · 16/06/2019 09:47

we get very little sun or hot weather and yet lots and lots of grey and rain

Perception. I don't think we do get that much grey and rain. Plenty of sunny intervals all through the year. Rain as consistent as it was last few days is very unusual.

I just don't understand why you'd keep reading and commenting on a thread where the majority of people don't agree with you if it bothers you that much.

Becca19962014 · 16/06/2019 10:22

mydog

if you don't like feeling depressed for a few days a year... Imagine what's it's like for months and endless months

It's not endless months. Stop lying. You say yourself you get weeks and days when it's not a problem.

I don't.

I've zero hope. I can't have meds. No actual therapy here just mindfulness rubbish. Not even allowed crisis support when mh spiralling and suicidal just because I cannot take meds so consided unhelpable - their words not mine. My medical condition is now considered to be terminal after severe deterioation last summer due to heat. I've been told even a minor a heat wave this year will likely kill me.

So you try having some compassion. When it was 26c three weeks ago I was bedbound with seizures and terrfied.

And you can get SAD in summer. It's not just because of so called bad weather, there are people who suffer with it all year round.

Becca19962014 · 16/06/2019 10:34

das I should point out not everyone finds the condition becomes terminal. My EDS and dysautonomia combination and how they both effect me is the problem, neither have responded to any treatment. I'm putting this here because I didn't want what I posted to frighten you.

DasMumBoot · 16/06/2019 12:07

becca thanks for that. I’m so so sorry you are this badly affected. I know I’m luckier than many as this conditions can go from barely an issue to life threatening or very disabling depending on which type you have and how severely you have it. Mine is getting more problematic with age and no physio, bracing, pain relief helps much but I do get by reasonably ok. Hot and cold weather is a big problem though. I wish there was something that could help more and you didn’t have to suffer as much as you do 💐

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/06/2019 12:27

It's the dark morning, the dark afternoons and evenings.

mydog A few of us have already said we appreciate the sunnier days, just not the heat that that comes with it. I personally think we should stop putting the bloody clock backwards every winter.

But in the winter I can wrap up in layers, put on thick tights etc. I can still function even though I hate being very cold (hypothyroidism).

But for me and other people on this thread, the heat grounds us to a halt and is much more difficult to control. Last year I could hardly work. I spent weeks at a time locked indoors, physically unable to get outside. In winter the darkness might make me feel down but it doesnt stop me physically. Summer does. I nearly fainted in a shop last year. The staff had to get me a cab home. Same thing happened in the park after being out only 20 mins.

I flare up, look awful, and can't walk anywhere for longer than 1/2 an hour continuously. My hayfever and asthma are bad. The pollution is harder to cope with as the air is dry and hot. The air quality is awful. That Sahara dust that's been coming every year is hard to deal with.

And february was hot. Its still warm out just not sizzling.

Go and complain on the other threads bemoaning the summer.

LoafofSellotape · 16/06/2019 14:16

Seriously, stop telling us we're wrong to like this weather. It's bloody ridiculous to be in this thread and you're just coming across as a weathersplaining gf.

I went to the garden centre with dh this morning, was so lovely, few spots of rain and then it was over and the sun came out, then a bit windy and most importantly not too hot. Hayfever wasn't bad at all which is a miracle at this time of year for me!

missmouse101 · 16/06/2019 14:21

There have been a large number of days that were anything but grey and rainy, since last year! These sweeping statements people make about dark, grey and rain for endless months are completely exaggerated. It is so tedious to keep reading. I'm always curious why those people, who love the sun and summer so much always want to park their car in the bloody shade?

missmouse101 · 16/06/2019 14:23

Actually, correction...it's not 'bloody' shade, it's lovely! Grin Yes, today is light, fresh and breezy! Gorgeous!

LoafofSellotape · 16/06/2019 14:24

I told dh today was my perfect weather 😊

GummyGoddess · 16/06/2019 14:26

@mydogisthebest no, I'm not happy all the time as usually I am miserable from March to September which is half the year. You may not think it 'proper' summer for those 6 months, but it is usually enough to make me feel down and uncomfortable. This year I am having a wonderful time compared to usual.

LoafofSellotape · 16/06/2019 14:31

Weather warnings of thunder storms here next Tues and Weds- LOVE a big storm! Just hope it doesn't get too muggy beforehand.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 16/06/2019 16:32

Ooooh Loafof I love me a thunder storm.. I hope it happens down here as well. So nice to be wrapped up and cosy while it thunders and pours outsideSmile

SecretWitch · 16/06/2019 17:01

Yay! Another grey and drizzly day here! I hope this lasts all summer🌂

GummyGoddess · 16/06/2019 18:00

@LoafofSellotape are you south of London? We have the same forecast and I'm really looking forward to seeing lightning.

colbyandmontysmum · 16/06/2019 18:42

Last year we moved from the west coast of Canada to the east coast. What a weather shock! Funny enough, the winters are okay with me - super cold, gale winds, snow - not too much of a problem.

But the summers...sticky, humid, sunny and mosquitoey (lots and lots of those little blood sucking buggers). To top it off, I'm allergic to the sun rays. If I don't apply a LOT of sunscreen, I would get itchy hives on my legs, face, arms and neck. We just survived last summer here last year and for some reason the sun seems stronger this year and the mosquitoes more plentiful.

This little province is lucky it's so beautiful and friendly or I would be on a plane back to the 'wet' coast as soon I can, I tell ya!!

AlpacaP1cnic · 16/06/2019 19:37

I used to like summer. That changed last year. I bought an air conditioning unit last year as I literally couldn't stand it a moment longer and although it does indeed make the room ice cold, it's noisy. But meh, I'll take that I suppose.

Air con unit hasn't made an appearance yet and I'll be quite happy if weather stays as it is

LoafofSellotape · 16/06/2019 20:53

No Gummy not south of London. We can marvel at the storm together thoughSmile

I was watching Celebrity Gogglebox earlier,Jessie J said her favourite weather is rain. Good woman!!

Rockbird · 16/06/2019 21:58

Where is the grey wet weather that the self appointed thread police keep saying we have for most of the year? I can assure you that down here in the SE we get plenty of warm muggy weather and not a huge amount of rain. This current rainy spell is far from usual.

DappledThings · 17/06/2019 09:06

It's definitely starting. Opened front door at 7.30 this morning to grab something from car and it was already hot. ☹

LoafofSellotape · 17/06/2019 09:16

Started out sunny here this morning but black skies and chilly now with a strong breeze and threatening rain.

Just cleaned out the car,I never do that at this time of year normally as I would be a sweaty mess. FabulousSmile

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/06/2019 09:21

I’m loving this weather.

It’s just warm enough and there is rain and the gardens are fresh and green.

What’s not to like?
