It's time... Yes we fucking hate summer.

Although it hasn't got as hot as it was last year (yet) I feel like I've already had enough. I'm got hayfever, I can't go outside without insects getting in my face and I'm already feeling hot and sticky. I also want to go to bed and someone round here is having an outdoors party. Yes I'm a Scrooge, no I don't care. Roll on autumn and crisp sunny days and frost and apples and brightly coloured leaves (ahh, I feel cooler already.)

@ivegotthree,no. It's because at over 21 degrees I am extremely HOT and UNCOMFORTABLE, even with summer clothes on.

Becca19962014 · 13/06/2019 20:12

das I've a form of dysautonomia as well. Suffer really badly in heat because of it.

GummyGoddess · 13/06/2019 20:36

@Ivegotthree Nope, even at my very smallest I still hated it. I remember disliking it as a child when we went on holiday as well.

I don't find the grey sky and the dark miserable, apparently I'm missing that gene. In my mind there's a reason that Hell is meant to be a hot place.

LoafofSellotape · 13/06/2019 20:39

AIBU to ask if the only reason people hate summer is because they're overweight and don't like wearing summer clothes?

No not unreasonable, just rude. RTFT if you're seriously interested.

I've just been on a walk down. U the river a s I'm now sitting in the car in my drive and it's PISSING down so hard I don't even want to dash to the front door until it eases off. It's lovely listening to it on the roof of the car Smile

Rockbird · 13/06/2019 20:41

Don't find it miserable at all, far from it. I love a good atmospheric cloud cover and am delighted that I'm having to wear cardigans. I seriously couldn't be happier. Long may it last.

LoafofSellotape · 13/06/2019 20:50

Rockbird me too Smile

mydogisthebest · 13/06/2019 22:36

I wish I did like rain and grey but I don't. It makes me very depressed. I suffer from SAD and usually, obviously, I am fine in the summer but not this summer.

Also I have 2 long haired dogs so it makes walking them a nightmare. It takes hours to dry them and then its time for their second walk so we all get soaked again and it takes more hours to dry them.

It saddens me too that young animals and birds are struggling in the constant rain and the fact that it is much colder than it should be.

mydogisthebest · 13/06/2019 22:37

managedmis, it's certainly not 20 where I live nor was it 28 last weekend. I also spend some of last week in Essex/Kent and it wasn't very warm there either. There was plenty of rain though

Rockbird · 13/06/2019 22:41

So then presumably you can understand how the heat makes most of us on this thread feel? I dread the summer, the bright light makes me depressed. I feel my body shutting down and my production levels drop. I can do the bare minimum before getting home as fast as possible where I can be next to a fan and out of the bright light. I can live an actual life when it's like this, instead of just existing.

And the animals suffered equally last summer in the heat.

Cooroo · 13/06/2019 22:46

I'm hating this cold, wet weather but delighted to find there are people happy with it. There's bugger all any of us can do, so I may as well be glad for you!

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 13/06/2019 22:52

Yesterday I went for a walk along the Southbank. Everything was coloured sepia brown and grey. The river, the sky, the Tate it was very relaxing and beautiful and calm. Saw geese on the river seen that before.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 13/06/2019 22:55

And there was a nice cool breeze and gentle rain. This summer has already beat last year for me. Last year I couldn't go anywhere without feeling I was going to faint.

GummyGoddess · 13/06/2019 23:02

Feeling depressed by the weather is how I feel in the summer. I don't want to eat, can't sleep, want to cry when I wake in the morning and it's already warm, don't want to leave the house. All the while everyone is enthusing about how the thing that causes me such misery is making them so happy and they hope it lasts forever.

The majority of people love the summer, this thread is where a tiny minority can find some solidarity from having to hide their misery from everyone. Of course we're delighted that the weather isn't making us stressed and miserable.

Nousernameforme · 13/06/2019 23:18

It's nice isnt it. We've been doing lots of puddle jumping and snail hunting with ds. Our hayfever has calmed right down and I can sleep snuggled under a duvet.

ExpletiveDelighted · 14/06/2019 07:33

I was thinking that as I went to bed last night, how nice it is to be snuggled up under a duvet instead of lying there too hot even with no covers and tossing and turning all night in the heat.

mydogisthebest · 14/06/2019 08:24

Ok I get why people don't like the heat. I don't particularly and never go anywhere hot on holiday. I don't get though how people can honestly like day after day of non stop rain. It's so heavy that even going out in the garden to the garage I get soaked.

You can't really go out anywhere because everywhere is soggy and muddy and you just get drenched. I can't get any washing dry unless I tumble dry it and hang it over radiators. Using the tumble dryer, obviously, uses energy and costs and you really should not need to in June. Washing hanging over radiators is not that good either. I keep putting off washing in the hope we will have a day without rain but that's not working!

Also how many days do we ever get of really hot weather? Last year was an exception. Most years we are lucky to get a couple of days. On the other hand for people who dislike cold, wet, grey, damp, miserable, dark etc we get months and months of it.

I feel sorry for anyone who actually gets depressed in the sun but I get depressed in the winter/dark/miserable weather so that's most of the year in the UK.

So you all get to have your shitty weather at least 9 months of the year usually but you want all 12 months! Not selfish at all

LoafofSellotape · 14/06/2019 08:27

You can't really go out anywhere because everywhere is soggy and muddy and you just get drenched You don't if you have a decent mac.

Forgetting last year we really don't get just a few days of summer,we just don't .

ExpletiveDelighted · 14/06/2019 08:29

Perhaps try hiding the thread then Mydog.

Emmabryant123 · 14/06/2019 08:35

It's the typical your allowed to moan about the rain and not the sun brigade
Hide the thread on your way out mydog

LoafofSellotape · 14/06/2019 08:38

It's very oddConfused

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 14/06/2019 08:41

You don't if you have a decent macGrin

DuckWillow · 14/06/2019 08:43

I hold you all responsible for this wet weather Grin. For the record I hate very hot days but days where it’s dry and warm/comfortable enough to sit out is nice.

Oh and whoever said people who hate summer might be overweight and hate summer clothes....screw you. I am overweight and I wear summer clothes. Be comfy is my motto.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 14/06/2019 08:48

Our happiness may be coming to an end.

This from The Express Newspaper:

A map of the UK shows a simmering summer heatwave is on its way in the next week, turning the heat up for England and Wales while bathing Northern Ireland and Scotland in balmy sunshine too. Highs of 29C in London will finally kick-off the great British summertime from June 25 thanks to a heatwave making its way from the Mediterranean. Wales will enjoy top temperatures of 25C while Northern Ireland and Scotland remain on par with 18C highs.

Ah well it was great while it lasted.Sad

LoafofSellotape · 14/06/2019 08:52

Oh no!!!

ExpletiveDelighted · 14/06/2019 08:54

Hopefully it will be short-lived.
