Just curious how people choose their names and if they have any meaning. I'm a regular name changer (although I never announce the name change, feels like it defeats the purpose somewhat!) and have been on mumsnet for a couple of years.

My current one is a line from Judge Judy, I thought it was time for a change and that was the next thing i heard on the telly. I realised that it might seem like my DPs left me afterwards but that got me thinking, where do others get their names from. Anyone care to share? Smile

Mine is a song, but actually it turns out it isnt the name of the song after all.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 01/05/2019 19:35

@MrsBadCrumblesClarinet Isn't that when 'she' plays 'Snug as a Bug in a Rug'?? 😉

And I came across another user recently and laughed out loud at their Line of Duty inspired name. It was 'LetsdialdowntheIanPaisley'.

If you're here, my friend - thank you very much for making me laugh. 👋

And this song is featured in The boat that rocked.

Mine's a partial quote from Blackadder: 'The Germans are a cruel race. Their operas last for six hours and they have no word for fluffy.' Smile

Heulog · 01/05/2019 20:06

The welsh word for sunny.

Galvantula · 01/05/2019 20:08

It's not the name I've always used though.

whiskyremorse · 01/05/2019 20:35

Mine is the title of a song that I love and I have also experienced some remorse after whiskey.

BettysLeftTentacle · 01/05/2019 20:37

Thought of it during a mega marathon of Hey Duggee and due to being slightly hysterical from said Hey Duggee marathon, I couldn’t stop sniggering. And a name change was born.

FredaAndBarry · 01/05/2019 20:38

Named after one of my favourite songs - Victoria Wood’s ballad of Freda and Barry (and because “beat me on the bottom with a woman’s weekly” was too long for a username)

LadyOfTheCanyon · 01/05/2019 20:39

I'm a Joni Mitchell fan.

FloofyDoof · 01/05/2019 20:41

It's one of a variety of daft names that I call my cat. He's a floofy little doofus.

MsFenellaFielding · 01/05/2019 20:42

Darling, must you ask? smoulders

Sexnotgender · 01/05/2019 20:42

From a firm belief that sex is immutable and gender is bullshit.

HildaAlida · 01/05/2019 20:44

My latest is my grandmother's christian names, she was fond of telling me that her father "was a dutchman". I remember thinking the name Alida (she pronounced it ar-leedar) sounded terribly exotic when I was a child.

BubblegumFactory · 01/05/2019 20:52

Mine is the name of a song by a band called Redd Kross who are a bit obscure I suppose. I liked them a lot back in day but the name is a bit daft. Could do with a new one.
