Just curious how people choose their names and if they have any meaning. I'm a regular name changer (although I never announce the name change, feels like it defeats the purpose somewhat!) and have been on mumsnet for a couple of years.

My current one is a line from Judge Judy, I thought it was time for a change and that was the next thing i heard on the telly. I realised that it might seem like my DPs left me afterwards but that got me thinking, where do others get their names from. Anyone care to share? Smile

it's a line from a song by Tricky 'underneath the weeping willow lies a weeping wino'

Myotherhusbandisgaryoldman · 01/05/2019 09:16

Because I love him 😍

Nobhobs · 01/05/2019 09:19

It's how my cute little two year old niece says hobnobs and it's so funny no one can bring themselves to correct her Grin

A very minor reference from Terry Pratchett (the Morris dancers of Lancre dance to an inexpertly played accordian rendition - it's also one of the 8 orders of wizardry from the Discworld too)

BillGiggeloe · 01/05/2019 09:20

This one from Line of Duty.

Normally mine is a character from The Sims

mogloveseggs · 01/05/2019 09:22

From the mog books

InTheEndgameNow · 01/05/2019 09:23

I'm a regular name changer. The inspiration for my current name should be pretty obvious!

lablewhore · 01/05/2019 09:23

Working in fashion - you come across them - delightful! Me personally - only shop in Primark Wink

Trippedupagain · 01/05/2019 09:24

Because I just make mistakes a lot...

Bentley111 · 01/05/2019 09:25

DHorse's name plus the date I bought him.
Not particularly intelligent Blush

novasglowx · 01/05/2019 09:27

Mines from Linkin Park's song Castle of Glass, I was gutted when Chester died. Massive fan as a teenager.

Kenan and Kel. It was what Kel used to say at the end of the show or leading into the main script of the show. I used to really enjoy the show as well as Sabrina.

Have had about 8 name changes since I joined in 2012 though. Most pop culture references of some kind. Or puns. Or both Smile

RosamundDarnley · 01/05/2019 09:28

Characters in books that have struck a chord with me.

PrincessTiggerlily · 01/05/2019 09:31

Peter Pan character x WITH pooh character

magimedi · 01/05/2019 09:31

I wanted to be demi when I joined but it was taken. So I joined as medi & the first Christmas name change added 'Magi' & have stuck with it ever since.

Whitelisbon · 01/05/2019 09:31

I had a packet of white lisbon seeds on the table in front of me. Lettuce, apparently.
They never grew.

happypotamus · 01/05/2019 09:32

A character from the old cbeebies show Abadas. I liked the character and the way the word sounded, and I liked having a name that contradicted my usually unhappy state. I chose the name years ago when I was forced to watch a lot of cbeebies.

icannotremember · 01/05/2019 09:33

A poem. My last two names have also been from the same one.

Orchidflower1 · 01/05/2019 09:34

Dh and other family members bought me flowers when I was very unwell. The flowers are long gone but I keep the name as I reminder we’re in happier times now.

Loving learning the meaning behind regular posters I see.

DrBuckles · 01/05/2019 09:37

Adam Buxton

JayeAshe · 01/05/2019 09:37

Same way as the creator of Tintin .
It was fashionable in his schooldays to reverse one's initials to make a name. His were GR hence Hergé ...
Mine were HG hence Géhache.

GrimDamnFanjo · 01/05/2019 09:38

A play on the name of an adventure video game.
