DC has just broken something of MIL's!

He's snapped her glasses Sad One of the arms has come off.

Not sure what to do... Or say. I don't really speak to her.

I come over a few times a week to let her dog out. I was unlocking the back door and I turn around and he has them in his hands!

What will I even say? Should I send a text now?

DH isn't going to be happy either.

You'll need to pay to have them repaired or replaced. I would send her an apologetic text.

Easterbunnyiscomingsoon · 19/03/2019 15:59

Plaster?? Take for repair?
Apologise?

finnmcool · 19/03/2019 15:59

Take them to specsavers and see if they can be fixed.

PointlessUsername · 19/03/2019 15:59

Just text and tell her what happened, offer to pay for repair?

wittyusermane · 19/03/2019 15:59

The truth? Accidents happen with kids around, just apologise and offer to repair/replace them?

Lovelylugs · 19/03/2019 16:01

Have they actually snapped on the arm or just the screw has come out? I would ring and say what's happened. Perhaps they are a spare pair?

backmassageplease · 19/03/2019 16:01

You'll need to pay to have them repaired or replaced. I would send her an apologetic text.

This is the biggest fear. I can't afford to replace them. I'm so skint right now that I'm having to be careful how much orange squash I use and add a bigger water to squash ratio. I have £5 to last until payday.

Lovely they've actually snapped on the arm, but it's a neat snap

TheCrowFromBelow · 19/03/2019 16:03

Just tell her, apologise and arrange to replace them.
They might be the cheapo ones from the market/ supermarket and you can replace them.
They might be prescription, and take a bit longer and be more expensive but they can still be replaced.
It was an accident. Why wouldn’t your DH be happy?

Singlenotsingle · 19/03/2019 16:04

If you take them for repair to wherever she bought them, they probably won't charge you. Specsavers dont charge me for repairs.

Iggly · 19/03/2019 16:04

As she’s your dcs gran, surely she’d understand you don’t have any money.

So massive apology and offer to pay back over time.

And keep a closer eye on your dcs when at her house if you’re that scared of her!

justasking111 · 19/03/2019 16:05

If you are that skint, I would not expect you to fork out and I would be buying you food and orange squash, does she know how broke you are?

TheCrowFromBelow · 19/03/2019 16:05

Ah ok cross post
Most people have spare glasses just apologise, explain the situation and say you’ll replace them next month.
Can’t DH help? I’m assuming DS is his?

BertrandRussell · 19/03/2019 16:06

Just text her.
Why are you scared?

Inthetropics · 19/03/2019 16:06

Tell her, apologise and offer to pay foe it being fixed (usually cheap) when you have the money.

UrsulaPandress · 19/03/2019 16:06

You are doing her a favour presumably>

Redshoeblueshoe · 19/03/2019 16:07

If you don't speak to her why are you letting her dog out ?

WeeDangerousSpike · 19/03/2019 16:08

Do you know if they are prescription ones or off the shelf?

Look on the arms, does it say specsavers or another brand?

If it says a particular shop, take them there and find out how much to fix them, they might do it for free. If not then tell MIL and ask if she wants to wait till you get paid or if she needs to have them done ASAP and you'll pay her on payday.

Quartz2208 · 19/03/2019 16:08

Yes how old child and why do you do this if you don’t speak

runsmidgeOMG · 19/03/2019 16:09

Send an apologetic text. Accidents happen
Maybe say you can't afford the full amount upright but will pay her in instalments ? You never know she may not want you to but it would be kind to offer.

backmassageplease · 19/03/2019 16:10

Just phoned DH to tell him.

I asked if she has a spare pair and he says "Suppose so but that's not really the point, is it?"

He says she's going to be fuming Sad

I said she can get them fixed at Specsavers for free (I'm sure that's where she goes anyway).

Says they're Michael K on the arm.

BertrandRussell · 19/03/2019 16:11

OP-why are you scared?

picklemepopcorn · 19/03/2019 16:12

Does she pay you to look after the dog?

Does DH have more money than you or is he skint too?

ijustdontunderstandher · 19/03/2019 16:13

Just apologise to her OP. Does your DH have money to pay for them?

backmassageplease · 19/03/2019 16:13

I let the dog out because it was once DH's joint dog with her. DH still visits the dog all the time.

I'm not scared as such, wrong word I think. But I am now worried because this will cause an atmosphere between DH and MIL, possibly: and has certainly annoyed DH over the phone. I hate hate hate being 'off' with people.

DH is skint too, I lost my job a while back. Just trying to get by until I get something else
