What are some food combinations that you don't understand?

I have never really understood the combination of moules et frites. I quite like fries and I love mussels but the two don't really work together for me. I'd prefer some nice bread to dip in the sauce.

A pub I was in recently offered chips with their potato pie. Now I'm more than happy to double carb but chips with a sliced potato pie?

Mac and cheese as a side confuses me too. I love macaroni cheese/mac and cheese but it doesn't seem to work as a side dish to me. Perhaps I've been missing out all these years.

Which food combinations confuse or disgust you?

All of yours.

Black truffle with anything. They taste like a man's arse. Who would want that.

missmouse101 · 11/03/2019 20:49

Anything which ends up combining chicken and cheese.

SaigonSaigon · 11/03/2019 20:50

Chicken on pizza. It confuses me. It's just wrong.

Sweetcorn with a Sunday roast. Sweetcorn goes with very little but least of all a roast dinner.

Flowersonthewall · 11/03/2019 20:51

When my mum does lasagne she does wedges and garlic bread! Triple carbs 😂 not sure why she feels the need for potatoes too!

Chocolateheaven123 · 11/03/2019 20:53

Agree with these, especially sweetcorn on a roast. That's just criminal. And any meat on a pizza. And seafood or pineapple on pizza! Envy

Millie2013 · 11/03/2019 20:53

Sultanas in anything savoury, the thought makes me gag 🤢

camelfinger · 11/03/2019 20:55

Gammon and egg, or pineapple.
Chocolate and lime.
Cheesecake, tastes like cream that’s past its sell by date to me.
Beans on toast - too soggy
Chip butties
I used to have chips and cheese which is a bit weird.

IncrediblySadToo · 11/03/2019 20:57

Anything with meat, fish, seafood...

I don’t eat eggs either...

🤣

But that aside...

Scrambled eggs and beans - together.

Lunaballoon · 11/03/2019 20:57

I’m not keen on sweet and savoury in the same dish. I don’t get American breakfasts where bacon, eggs, hash browns etc are served with pancakes and syrup.

Fraula · 11/03/2019 20:57

Marmite and marmalade.
Coke and ice cream.

CoffeeRunner · 11/03/2019 20:57

Jelly & custard. And not both cold in some sort of ill conceived trifle.

Cold jelly & hot custard.

Whynham · 11/03/2019 20:58

Tuna and cheese melts. As if the whiff of tuna isn't bad enough to put a strong mature cheddar on top just smells like cats breath.

knitandpearl · 11/03/2019 20:58

strawberries and chocolate
chocolate goes with so many things but not strawberries

burgers with brioche buns. Brioche is sweet!

Mum2jenny · 11/03/2019 20:59

I loathe fruit in any savoury dish. Particularly sultanas or raisins, but I do not like most fruits if they are cooked.

For me, it's lemon flavoured savoury foods. The food tastes like perfume to me as it confuses my taste buds.

Another combination for me is those massive burgers that are impossible to pick up and eat, with fillings like onion rings, fried eggs, macaroni cheese and hash browns in it. I just want a no frills cheeseburger with onion rings on the side.

Racheyg · 11/03/2019 21:00

I'm another one with a severe dislike of chicken on a pizza 🤢

ApolloandDaphne · 11/03/2019 21:01

Eggs with any sort of tomato. Boak.

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 11/03/2019 21:01

Peas and baked beans on the same plate.

WhyDidIEatThat · 11/03/2019 21:01

Fish and cheese Hmm

SilentBob · 11/03/2019 21:03

Chicken in omelettes. Chicken on pizza.

Eggs and Baked beans touching one another.

Completely agree re brioche buns being used for burgers/hot dogs. It's not big and it's not clever. If you must use the sweet bread, use it in a pudding!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 11/03/2019 21:04

Club sandwiches - in fact any chicken and bacon combination baffles me. Separately chicken/ bacon good. Together = bad!

MrsMoastyToasty · 11/03/2019 21:04

Peanuts and chocolate. Peanuts are savoury and should not be allowed to contaminate chocolate.

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/03/2019 21:06

Fruit with chocolate, it's just horrible.
