What are some food combinations that you don't understand?

I have never really understood the combination of moules et frites. I quite like fries and I love mussels but the two don't really work together for me. I'd prefer some nice bread to dip in the sauce.

A pub I was in recently offered chips with their potato pie. Now I'm more than happy to double carb but chips with a sliced potato pie?

Mac and cheese as a side confuses me too. I love macaroni cheese/mac and cheese but it doesn't seem to work as a side dish to me. Perhaps I've been missing out all these years.

Which food combinations confuse or disgust you?

Cheese and chicken together. Yuck.

ApolloandDaphne · 11/03/2019 21:06

Peanuts and chocolate together are lush!

safariboot · 11/03/2019 21:08

Ruining delicious cheese by mixing it with nasty raw onion. Boak.

Pineapple on pizza, just wrong
Pineapple and cottage cheese
Brioche buns with burgers, waste of a good burger
Raisins in a curry, blurrrgghhh
Curry or gravy on a fish from the chip shop
I also massively agree with never mixing beans and peas on the same plate

These are my 1st contenders I'm sure I will passionately agree with others that come along

Marmite and banana on toast. No just no mum!

Closetlibrarian · 11/03/2019 21:13

peanut butter and chocolate. Although I know I'm in the minority here. I love them separately, but together - bleurgh. Reese's Pieces make me gag.

Espressomartin · 11/03/2019 21:13

Salmon or sea bass with chips. Only cod, haddock or scampi goes with chips

AdaColeman · 11/03/2019 21:14

Pineapple on pizza
Mustard and cress in egg mayonnaise sandwich
Sweetcorn with tuna

Ffsnosexallowed · 11/03/2019 21:16

Not combinations of food, but temperature of food. Cold bacon is wrong. Cold sausage is wrong. Cold pizza, sausage rolls, bhajis are wrong

Longdistance · 11/03/2019 21:17

Lasagne with chips/potatoes, very odd.

Rice and salad.

Salt in caramel, just wrong.

darceybussell · 11/03/2019 21:17

Cinnamon with sweet things!

SouthwarkSkaters · 11/03/2019 21:17

My mum eats pasta with rice. I don’t get it.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 11/03/2019 21:17

Gravy on fish and chips

Starch · 11/03/2019 21:17

Mash and beans.

user1493413286 · 11/03/2019 21:19

Lasagne served with chips

NabooThatsWho · 11/03/2019 21:19

Chocolate and nuts. Actually, anything sweet with nuts. Just tastes wrong.

DramaAlpaca · 11/03/2019 21:21

Yet another vote for chicken & cheese. Urrgh.

And chicken has no business on a pizza. Not at all.

MorningsEleven · 11/03/2019 21:23

Does anyone like brioche buns with burgers? It's a waste of both.

AmIthatbloodycold · 11/03/2019 21:27

Salad served as a side dish with something hot, like lasagne, steak pie, macaroni cheese

Just wrong

Babygrey7 · 11/03/2019 21:27

Chicken and cheese is awful, but why?

Beef and cheese is nice, but chicken?! No

louderthan · 11/03/2019 21:27

Cinnamon in anything savoury
Apricots or dates in stews, tagines etc
Chicken and egg
I don't like fish pie or shepherds/cottage pie because the texture of mash on top with the softness of the meat or fish just turns my stomach. Like baby food
Can't fathom chips and gravy
Peanut butter and jam: too sweet
Chocolate coated fudge or peanut chocolate: too sweet
Cranberry/orange/redcurrant sauce with meat

Refilona · 11/03/2019 21:28

I love brioche bread with burgers 🍔

Once when I was in school I went for lunch at a friend’s house and his mum gave us pasta (think it was fusilli) with vegetables including big chunks of potato... and served it with rice. I am still traumatised and this was almost 20 years ago.

BearSoFair · 11/03/2019 21:28

DH has Marmite and marmalade together on toast. Apparently he saw it on tv and thought he'd give it a try. Grim!

Chickenvindasaag · 11/03/2019 21:29

Loooove sweet and savoury at the same time. Pineapple and pizza, excellent. Apricots in tagine, wonderful.
I don't like tuna on pizza, just wrong. Peas or sweetcorn with a roast bleurgh

louderthan · 11/03/2019 21:29

Bears my dad used to do that! Everyone else would be gagging Grin
